Yes, in the video I talked about the high-pressure oil system that could be a culprit. That’s also why I said I needed to plug-in the scan tool so I can read with the APR valve is doing and the ICP pressure sensor
With new batteries in it and jumper cables hooked up it should have turned over way faster than it did. Starter may just be worn out. (Mine was on my L99 about 4 years ago) I got the REAL NIPENDENSO from CNC Fab, engine spins so fast now that the front tires nearly dance off the ground. Lots of times an old, warn out starter will test good on a bench but as we all know Diesels in general require a good, strong starter to spin them.
You’re absolutely right, and the seven threes are known for being very difficult to start once the starters start going bad. I think you can upgrade them to the 6.0and the 6.4 starter and I believe those spin at a higher rpm

@@amsoiladam ya, i wasnt sure if you had checked that yet it was a good shot, and im sure you checked oil so i didmt say that one, i love my 6.0 but i wish it was like the 7.3 in the sense of no fire with low to no oil pressure, which mine acts like a 7.3 when it sits with no oil, i think i have a bad injector or something, like i said it was a shot, maybe the glow plug solenoids need replaced i can do some more digging and asking around if you want?, i work at a ford dealer and we see several things like this.
@@jarodsamuelson7673 yes, the oil pressure is good. Please keep in mind this video as months ago and there are more videos to come in the series. I eventually did get the truck running and have diagnose. It definitely needs new injectors and a new starter so we are starting with that and then moving forward. I’m actually in the process of of editing some of the other videos as we speak.
Just in case it helps anyone else, I had the same symptoms, with an f550 I got for free, cause it had stumped 3 different diesel mechanics, hah, it ended up being corrosion on both computers, but on the interior grounds, that ground the circuit board to the icm and ecm cases. Little scrubby scrubby and I got a free 2000 f550 with a 7.3 and a 6 speed.
They used to be a bad problem with a oil real plugs in the front and rear of the heads on those there was a recall are used to have to replace those all the time they lose oil pressure in the injectors would not work
difficult to diagnose a problem with crappy battery cables, especially on a 7.3. along with dirty battery terminals, first thing I learned about a 7.3, spotless clean terminals and functional cables. then you have the glow plugs and glow plug wires that need replaced, or maybe high pressure fuel pump could be bad. each one will make a cold start difficult to impossible
A little shot of starting fluid might help some .they are not like the old school .you got to have a diagnostic computer to see what the high pressure oil pump is putting out
Yeah, in the video I mentioned Hpop system may Be a problem and that I need to plug-in to look at what the sensors are doing. And yeah I can spray some ether in there and get it to fire but it still doesn’t tell me what the actual problem is and I can’t run it on either forever so that’s a waste. Not to mention ether destroys diesel engines.
With as many times, as I turned it over, I’m sure that they would’ve at least attempted to fire if fuel was present and the injector was activated. There’s no way to bleed the injectors on 7.3
But the likelihood of all eight being bad at the same time, and not firing at all, are extremely unlikely. And as far as the down cylinder, a bad injector, wouldn’t cause it to turn over like that only a lack of compression would.
On this engine, there are new fuel lines that go to the injectors. There’s a passage that runs through the head, and the injectors sit down inside an injector cup, which allows the fuel to surround the injector. I could crack the line just outside of the fuel bowl, but I already know that I have pressure at the fuel bowl. Well, actually, that’s not true, I know that I have fuel flow to the fuel bowl but I have no idea how much pressure it’s actually building.
@amsoiladam What do you mean by proper tuning? I took it to the workshop and verified that the glow plug diesel module control is not working and I must replace it, the problem is that I am from Bolivia and the replacement takes about 3 weeks to a month to arrive. and I would like to know if that is the problem. thanks for your quick response buddy
@@marcelocristian3626 forgive me if I misunderstanding you, but it sounds like I may not quite get your issue. Glow plugs and glow plug controllers will cause the engine to be hard to start. It will have nothing to do with black smoke. If you have black smoke coming from your engine, you’re obviously already running. If you have excessive black smoke that would mean that it’s dumping too much fuelinto the cylinders and not having the ability to burn at all. A properly tuned diesel engine will put out very little smoke. Is what I was trying to say. But if you’re having a starting issue, that’s a whole Nother story.

No, this model truck only has the glow plug solenoid, which is very much like a starter solenoid. It is mounted on top of the engine. It was in the video that I tried to jump. Other models of the 7.3 do have a glow plug controller as mine does, and it’s still mounted in the same place on top of the engine but it’s more computer controlled rather than just activated or deactivated.

Yeah, I haven’t actually checked fuel pressure yet but I’m hoping that when I plug in the diagnostic tool, I might be able to get a reading for that. I know that I have fuel flow to the bowl but if there’s not enough pressure there, it may not be feeding the injection properly.
