Nice reaction Jim, and yeah I totally understand, the first time I heard Jinjer, I was absolutely floored and instantly fell in love with the band. I've been a metal head for over 40 years, and Jinjer is now easily in my top 10 favorite metal bands of all time. As far as your next reaction to Jinjer, I'm gonna suggest my favorite Jinjer song which is Pit of Conciousness, the official video is great, but the live version in Kiev/Kyiv is out of this world fantastic. You literally can't go wrong with reacting to any Jinjer song, because they are each unique and different, and they literally don't have a bad song. Continue to enjoy your Jinjer journey, and as always, stay Metal. Oh one last thing, Jinjer is dropping a new official video to their song Home Back this Thursday December 17th, needless to say I'm looking forward to it because that song is siiiiiiiiiick!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶🎶
It’s crazy to me just how many comments I see that talks about being an old school metalhead and loving this band. Bc that’s ME!! I think it just shows how amazing this band is. And I’m right there with you. I literally, just put Jinjer in my all time top 10 and yes I have an all time top 25 list that I keep updated!!! Lol!! And I’m so damn excited for Home Back as well as that is probably my favorite song off of macro. So you’re echoing my exact thoughts man!

Yeah, you guys aren't alone. A year ago I had no clue about Jinjer, and today I'd safely say they're my favorite all time Metal band. They're special.
How I hear you man! Almost 30 years of metal and it´s been a decade or more since a band blew me away like this!
Honestly your next Jinjer reaction should probably be Tatiana's one take performance of Judgement and Punishment, it truly showcases this goddess of metal's vocal mastery. And like the other 3 songs you've reacted to from Jinjer, this one will keep keep you guessing on where it's going to go next.
Specifically the one-take version is just epic.
You talk about how in the beginning you can hear the bass strings vibrating slowly... right after she starts singing, they show the strings vibrating as the bassist turns towards the camera. It’s pretty cool.

Check out their song Retrospection! It's another one with crazy time changes, the way it flows instrumentally too is fantastic!

SO far my favourite Song, the huge chorus is so catchy , the lyrics are awesome and technically it´s a masterpiece
Infatuation will soon turn in to full blown addiction!!! This band has rejuvenated my love of heavy music!!!
The timing thing is simple but very complex, in part because the lyrics are specifically NOT limited by the time signature. She tends to sing through the end of a phrase and into the next one.

Tatiana's vocals are sick especially in the beginning when she switches from growls to clean vocals. Her range is highlighted as well near the end. of course this was a well done production with overdubs as you can see from her outfits it's from several concerts. Love her "rapping" in the beginning as well. The lyrics about parochial schools are amazing, as is the homage to Pink Floyd when she raps in her growl "Teacher , teacher leave us alone"...the band with the bass and drums being incredible. Try Judgement and Punishment which is Jinjer's nod to reggae-ish music.

I feel you, man. A year ago I had no idea who Jinjer was. Today, I can tell you they are my favorite band of all time. That is crazy to me given the 30 years I've been listening to metal. As far as what to do next, I'd second Pit of Consciousness (Live in Kiev). It's my favorite song of theirs, and that live set they did in their homeland was special. I also would suggest trying Home Back, that's their newest video and it just released days ago.

I'm sure you would prefer live but you really need to listen to their newest official video for the song "Home Back" which is all about their war torn home country.
Ill be sure to add it to the list.
Also that the timing can be strange (common in progresive deathmetal) with Jinjer is that the guitar player play on a 6 string in Drop A, it's one of the thing that make them soud so unique.
“Cloud Factory” official live version and “On The Top” live in Kiev are two of my favorites. But it’s Jinjer...They’re all great! Any of the suggestions below will not disappoint. Thank you and look forward to next reaction. Happy Holidays!

On the verses they are playing one bar of 8/4 followed by one bar of 7/4, which makes you feel like it's missing a beat. Tati delays her vocals at the end of the second bar (7/4) so she comes in with the band back on 1.

Great react Jim...this song grew on me with consecutive listens for precisely the same reason...i wasn't able to catch even half of it before the inevitable change...sweet cognitive dissonance always artfully crafted by JINJER ...I'd recommend "On the Top" official video Or "I speak astronomy" official video next.

I would suggest "Who is going to be the one?" live. An video for "Home Back" just dropped, but I think you should listen to it after "Retrospection" (also the studio version).

They just released the official music video for the song Home Back. Tatiana absolutely lays down some of her most brutal growls. But the boys are right there destroying it musically. Teacher-teacher teacher is a 7 out of 10 Home Back says FU were Jinjer.
you've got to try some of the newer stuff live... Pit of Consciousness (Live in Kiev) is my fave. I also go back to one of the older live songs, Cloud Factory. Keep growing...
All of the other suggestions are spot on, there isn’t a bad Jinjer song so you can’t go wrong. Check out “The Prophecy “; “Outlander” “Beggars Dance”; “ King of Everything “; “ Captain Clock-live Resurrectionfest “, and “ Home Back” when you get time.

I'd suggest "judgement and punishment", the one-take
This took my song of the year for 2019. It's tremendous.... the brain-engaging angular proggy timing thru the bulk of the thing somehow without losing groove is witchcraft. So many different textures & feels in that epic multi-movement structure. Technical excellence from all 4 of them. You even get very worthwhile metaphorical lyrics, which is crazy impressive considering English is a 2nd or 3rd language for them (3 of them are from the Russian-speaking Donbass, & I think Vlad the drummer is from Kiev).
You can't go wrong with anything from the Micro EP or the Macro album. I would stick with the omvs for "Retrospection", "I Speak Astronomy", & "On The Top".... but live versions of anything else are fine, especially "Who Is Gonna Be The One", which is what I'm going to suggest as next up (because I love Eugene's bass work thru it!): ua-cam.com/video/U6rv5qi8-8s/v-deo.html ;)

Just dive in, none will disappoint! However, tomorrow (12-17-20) they premiere a new video for the song “Home Back” and it’s one of my favorites from “Macro”. I would also recommend “Judgement & Punishment” (vocal one-take), any of the live performances from Kiev or Alive in Melbourne. Welcome to the rabbit hole. 🖤
Honestly their catalogue isn't that big, 3 albums and 2 EP's, but it does help that the most recent album, Macro, has a video for almost every song at this point. Try the video for Bad Water, no one ever does a reaction to this song but it shows a more laid back side to them and is one of their most underrated tracks.
For a new band try Vintersea- Illuminated.

Check out some early Jinjer, my favorite is the song Outlander from 2014 failure color upload is the best. I first heard Jinjer Christmas Eve 3 years ago coming up. Still remember it as everyone else was in bed and I was jamming with my headphones and finally broke down and watched a react vid to Pisces which I had seen on my stream but never watched. Now they are entrenched as my favorite band, saw them live last year and even did the meet and greet. I had never done one before and the band was so cool. Tati is so tiny but really sweet and joked with me, plus a little side hug for the win.
The beat is easy to follow if you concentrate on the drummer's hi-hat. 1-2-3-4,1-2-3-4

Is it just me or does Vlad have something against hitting the snare on the 1? He's so damn good at confusing me. Love his drumming, wish I could play like that.
@@janfransson5910 I just agreed with someone else saying a similar thing.... I reckon he's high-IQ & easily bored. Hence in this one, for example, when they go straight 4/4 for the huge-sounding chorus, he's still doing his damnedest to keep your (& his) brain engaged. ;)

I'm a musician and I have a pretty good sense of rhythm but I swear, in the almost 2 years since this song came out I haven't yet managed to make sense out of the drum work. I just follow Roman because if I follow Vlad I'm lost. : )
I reckon he's a high-IQ, easily-bored-by-norms, kinda guy in general.... & the fact that he's a classically-trained pianist to trade (altho I've seen clips of him showing real skill on guitar & upright bass too!) means he has a depth of understanding of orchestration & how to push & pull with the compositions.... he just happens to have ended up on the drums! I love when they go 4/4 for the huge-sounding chorus in this one, & yet Vlad's still doing his damnedest to keep ya guessin'! LOL :)
@@badm0t0rf1nger - Exactly. The hi-hats and the snare are in their "correct" 4/4 beats but the kick is all over the place and at times it's even in the same beat as the snare. For many people, especially Metal elitists, that's just wrong but Vlad makes it sound right. : )
He's lucky to be in a band where the other two musicians can understand what's going on in his "crazy" brain, otherwise they'd never make it work. Lol, I can imagine the anxiety Eugene and Roman have whenever Vlad comes up with an idea for a song but being also two standard-defying musicians, I guess they see it as more of a challenge. : )
@@Module79L Yip- I reckon the 3 of them relish the challenge of keeping up with each other.
Vlad wrote "Retrospection" btw.... I see no problems with them coming up with plenty more brain-engaging-yet-still-with-a-deep-groove (which is surely witchcraft as far as I'm concerned!) music. :)
It always surprises me how most musicians can't distinguish time signatures.
Well if I was 100% focused on only the drums I could talk about that all day lol. However I am hearing these songs for the first time. I try and digest all of the music lyrics and melodies all in one take and give my overall first impressions and thoughts.
