On average it's a worse Goliath, Sneed's Masterpiece (8 mana 8/8, deal 2 damage to a minion, 4 times) Which saw absolutely 0 play throughout its entire run in Standard.
It should give the summoned murlocks +1 attack or something like that because if most murlocks have 2- 3 attack than this is not clearing any turn 8 board
For reference, Grunty is technically a character originating from Heroes of the Storm, from back when it was still being built in Starcraft 2's editor. They thought a Murloc in Marine armor would be cool, so they made Grunty. He wasn't present in the Release version of Heroes of the Storm, but came back later as a skin for the hero Murky. Makes sense to have him in another Starcraft/Warcraft cross-over, good to see the little guy.
Grunty is one of the worst cards in the set. -Need 5 spaces - need to shoot at enemy minions (no one else) - Murloc too weak to beat one strong minion. - this is a win more card cannot clear board.
Once he game rogue 4 mana 4/4 mech that dealed 4 damage if you have another mech a 4 star and the 4/4 for all classes that deal 3 TO ALL enemies if you cast 3 spells only 3 star. Btw they were in same expansion. Sometimes he just hype himself up or fixated on classes. Like rogue can shadowstep Grunty? +2 stars automatically.
Old Murkeye can attack again after being "shot" .This was a rule change with some old cards from wild from Kobolds, example being the 3 mana 4/4 beginning of turn attacks a random enemy. It was changed to be able to attack again (this time you choosing the target) if it survives
I was so excited for this card. What were they even thinking? For all yhe absurd things you can do for 8 mana in this game, summoning 4 (four) MURLOCS is just awful.
Honestly, this might be better in wild than standard, lol. Murloc Shaman isn't high tier or anything, but it's a real deck, and Grunty actually seems like it would slot in quite well, since the murlocs you summon would benefit from things like on-board buffs. And ofc the Old Murk Eye high roll can potentially be game ending 😅
This is going to fucking destroy people in wild :( Murloc shaman *exists* complete with quest and enough fast draw to just flat out overwhelm as an aggro deck with dirt cheap buffs (as in free on turn 4 unleashing the locs and playing a 1-0 mana spell) - ditto with this - it's instant win-fin buff spell...
Similar effects that say something like 'they fight' or 'this minion attacks a minion' allows them to attack again if they have Charge or Rush, so I think it should work for this.
So this is probably one of the worst cards that's been revealed, ever, especially with how hyped up they were making it. The avg. Murloc in standard atm is like a 2/3 (math shown below) In order of power: Crowd Surfer is a 1/1, Growfin is a 1/1, Murmy is a 1/1, Adaptive Amalg is a 1/2, Tidecaller is a 1/2 that can max at 4/2, Saxophone is a 1/2, Braingill is a 2/1, Tidehunter is a 2/1, Cactus Cutter is a 2/2, Cookie is a 2/2, Drink Server is a 2/2, Coldlight Seer is a 2/3, Finley is a 2/3, Howdyfin is a 2/3, Paintfin is a 2/3, Razerjaw is a 3/1, Warleader is a 3/3 which can max out (technically) as a 9/3 if summoned last, Mutating Lifeform is a 3/8, Funkfin is a 4/2 that becomes a 2/2, Bodybuilder is a 4/7, and lastly One Amalg Band is a 6/6 There's 21 Murlocs in standard atm with the avg power being 2.238 (so rounding down to 2) and the avg toughness being 2.761 (rounding up to 3). This means, on average, you will summon 11/16 worth of stats for 8 mana. While this sounds good in theory, it's actually pretty subpar in today's HS. 4-5 years ago, this would have been great stats, but times change. So let's also show the absolute low roll, which would be (with duplicates) 4 Growfins, meaning you spent 8 mana on 7/8 in stats, with 4 of it dying off immediately if they have any 1/4+ minion on board. Now, if you *can't* roll duplicates, your absolute lowest roll is a Growfin, Adaptive, Saxophone, and Braingill/Tidehunter. (Braingill/Tidehunter are actually technically lower stats than Surfer or Murmy because of the 1/1 buff/token they leave behind, meaning it's +0/+1 more stats the than the Braingill/Tidehunter.) This means you spent 8 mana to summon 8/8 in stats for 8, which isn't *terrible* (yes it is) until you realize that 5/4 of that is dying off if they have a board. Now let's talk god rolls. With duplicate rolling and staying power, the best in terms of pure board presence would be just rolling 4 Funkfins. That's summoning 4 10/2s that leave behind a 2/2. While it's not amazing, that's basically a Twisting Nether (if they have 4 or fewer minions in play) that leaves behind 7/8 in stats. That's not bad. And with no duplicate rolling, hitting a Band, Bodybuilder, Mutating, and Warleader summons you 24/28 in stats, with (more than likely) 11/3 of that dying off at least. That's still just *okay*, and that's one of the best rolls in terms of stats you can get. So, what can make this card better? It's simple actually, do just 1 of these suggestions: 1) Instead of just random murlocs, make it a discover effect. This would also allow the Discover Hunter to have another 'good' tool at its disposal. 2) Choosing the ability to attack face. If your average roll is 4 2/3s, allowing you to choose face damage at least gives this card some reach. 3) Give the Murlocs summoned a buff. Whether that's just some stats, even as low as +1/+1 or immune for the turn (preferred), allowing you to do some board damage and retaining your board presence would go far for this. 4) Lastly, reduce the cost of this to 6. At 6 mana, this has a great chance of seeing play. It would be a very solid mid game option. This one also has the highest likely chance to be one the devs could implement the fastest.
Everyone: "BLIZZARD! STOP MAKING NEUTRAL LEGENDARY UBER-CARDS THAT ARE AUTO-INCLUDE IN EVERY SINGLE DECK!" Blizzard: Everyone: "BLIZZARD, WHY'D YOU MAKE SUCH A SHITTY CARD AS A NEUTRAL LEGENDARY?!?!?!" Blizzard: ... 😑
Because it has 4 opportunities to land on a 6/6, even if the other 3 are 2/2s thats 8 mana deal 12 to face from hand AND 15/16 over 5 minions on board from one card. The best any class could respond to that would be twisting nether, which would still leave the warlock behind on tempo and health. Even worse: it being 8 mana would make it too expensive for aggro decks but fit perfectly as a surprise burst of aggro in a control deck. It would essentially take the place of the removed force of nature + savage roar combo, except worse because it can also bypass taunt
@@carelesswhisker4155Yeah, sure buddy! Definitely only Warlock can kill all the Murlocs with Twisting Nether, it's not like the other classes have cards even cheaper than Twisting Nether that can kill all of them! Heck, even Warlock has Domino Effect which is 5 mana cheaper or Hellfire+Mortal Eradication etc!
@@carelesswhisker4155Also, even if you can't kill all the Murlocs, it's not like you will die from 2 small Murlocs that only have 2 attack! I also agree that it shouldn't go face, but he's way too expensive for what he does! He should have been at least 6 mana!
Because that's atrocious game design? You do understand this game is multiplayer and you are playing against another player right? Interaction and stuff.
On a Brann effect I am pretty sure you cana summon up to 8 murlocs. 1st battlecry: summon 4 random murlocs. Shot them. Then death applies. 2nd Battlecry: summon 4 random murlocs. Shot them. Or maybe I could be mistaken. I can't remember how the sequence works between 2 battlecries.
Honestly, every mini-set so far has had massive impact, if only because there was a single absolutely giga mega broken legendary in all of them that ended up being nerfed.
As a child and new player. Murlocs terrorized my character in Redridge mountains in wow. I hate them ever since ! Purge them all from the surface of azeroth !
Grunty's cost (and maybe stats) needs to come down. There's no way that is worth 8... Murgurgle Prime could often win games on its own but that's because the murlocs had divine shield, you got a threatening 6/3 and the snall dudes weren't forced to suicide
I quit HS a few years back, gotta say this mini set hooked me back into HS. Wild is as insane as I remember. Haven't been playing everyday yet and can really only play twist to know what the heck is going on haha. Good to see Zeddy is still keeping everyone informed!
can you play twist without having to spend money ? i am getting kind of tired of standard, but its the last months before rotation so its normal i guess.
getting wind fury on the mutating lifeform, probably won’t let the minion attack again right off the bat. but if you get rush on it, i think it will enable you to actually swing with it again.
You can summon murmur, then cookie, then summon grunty . You can also use it paladin with auras but each use of grunty requires other cards to make it strong or decent
people are brainless, they dont want to think for themselves. This card alone can summon 5 and kill 5 making ceaseless expanse -10 mana. For my death knight tricks it seems a must include.
Question: If you used the Corrupt the Waters quest or used Brann in tandem with this card, wouldn't it summon the four Murlocs, allow you to pick the targets, and when the Battlecry procs again, does it summon four more Murlocs (provided there's board space) and then you're allowed to select four more targets? If there are no minions to target, do the Murlocs do nothing?
Ofc you Will be able to attack again. Just look at the warrior card with ” start of turn, attack a random enemy”. They changed it specifically to be able to attack by itself and by your command in the same turn
I could see DK and non-Dungar druids running this. Druid needs a good way to clean up wide boards, because Rising Tide only gets you so far, and DK gets a bunch of free corpses attached to a board clear with no rune commitment.
Druid already does so much absolute bullshit, having one weakness to wide boards is fine. Having 10 mana on turn 5 ready to start flinging giant bodies. God forbid they occasionally lose to being out tempo-ed after basically passing the first half of the game.
I think this card will be really bad.. It's just an AOE for 8 mana.. Summon 4 random murlocs which will have mostly low stats and then crush them into the enemy minions to die all of them.. no Battlecry effect activation and hell slow for 8 mana.. I think this is useless.. could be useful for 5 -6 mana.. but not for 8.
Like all "summon many cards" effects. The order of summoning matters. If cookie is summoned last, it may work. And just "may" work because it could be the case that all the deaths are resolved after the 4 shots are done.
I think people are a bit quick to judge the card, what are the average stats going to be that it summons, and the average attack of its summons? And how much would it be to be considered a good card?
Never right off a card that does something new. I can't see Grunty fitting into a deck, but I don't think we've had a card that "clears" and "gives" you a board with no setup required. I am a Grunty believer 🙏
I see the hs playerbase is still as stupid as ever, asking to lower power level, then complaining a card is not OP and going "omg they thought this was a good idea???"
I'm sad that this card didn't give starcraft decks the additional fuel they'll need to be playable. We have too few Starcraft minions to make the decks viable.
If you combine grunty with either Brann or shutter block, Would be summon 4 murlocs and then shoot them then someone another 4 murlocs and then shoot those
"Grunty is the most BADASS Murloc of all time!" Come on... This is utter garbage and you know it. Even the Warlock cards are better than this crap. Disappointed with how you try to hype this card.
Seems fun, but very underwhelming in a world with Gorganzomu and Razzle Dazzle. I just don't think the shooting mechanic will be enough to save you that late in the game when all the Murlocs are so tiny.
Playing this in Wild with Brann gives you only 5 murlocs unless they attack and die right after being summoned. Probably one of the only cards with a positive battlecry that is not better with Brann.
Yeah, but there will likely be some new Highlander stuff this year. Every 2 years or so they tend to release a new Highlander package. Grunty will get some run with the next wave of Highlander stuff, no doubt. And it's a board clear for classes that don't have access to easy board clears. I could see some Druid archetypes (Not Dungar, of course) utilizing Grunty as a means to chop down a wide board.
Just like the rest of the mini-set, this is pretty awful. Going to play an 8 mana 3/4 for a chance at summoning a vanilla 6/6? But then realizing that most of the murlocs are actually 1/1 and 2/2 so it barely even kills a single minion like a Titan let alone a board clear.
@Bladius_ I completely disagree. Zerg looks the weakest of the 3 factions. Its pay offs all require a built board but no reliable way to build a board. Zerg will be walked all over by everything.
this is the card that was created when the dev team was like, "We've built a masterpiece miniset! let's just top it all off with some neutral legendary!" and they all decided to do shrooms, LSD, and peyote at the same time and this resulted.
8 mana? Really? It might see fringe play at 6, but 8!? I think it used to be able to target the face but was nerfed last minute because it’s not fun to get destroyed by Murloc RNG
I think a lot of its power is actually hidden in the (assumed mechanics). When you play him you summon the 4 murlocs - I then assume the game lets you go down the line of murlocs and pick which one attacks each enemy minion (allowing you to get optimal trades). Obviously the power of this card directly relates to the power of murlocs in standard.
bran warrior might be the only deck that uses this. kinda upset about this one. was hoping for a spirit of the badlands effect for zerg, protoss, or terran minions respectively.
I actually wouldn't rate it badass ( but of course, a truly decent to good card) given that there are measurable chances of low roll. Maybe Druid in wild could afford the randomness .
I'd say 1-2 because it's just too slow against aggro and too weak against controls. You basically have roll the 6/6 or cookie to make a thread and since the shooting is forced if you roll cookie as first unit you're just forced to shot him into something and that means he just dies with no value
I'm excited to test the cards too. Sadly, I don't think that this mini set will see any play as there are simply TOO few zerg/terran/protoss cards to work. Like - they're very synergistic, but you won't actually draw them consistenly enough.
"this is gonna see play in standard" until the first try you get is 4 1drop murlocs and you never see it again, garbage call it what it is
Worst card of the miniset?!?
The old zeddy would have said this was trash

I'm kinda glad its mid, because neutral legendaries have been too good recently

Disappointed with how you try to hype this card.
Neutral cards are supposed to be bad. It's the one card of the set that's bad the way it should be.
What , next cross-over are you excited for?
Seems fun, but very underwhelming in a world with Gorganzomu and Razzle Dazzle. I just don't think the shooting mechanic will be enough to save you that late in the game when all the Murlocs are so tiny.
This card is a 1 star in standart and wild imo
Ok I thought this was a perfectly reasonable card until I saw grunty was a 3/4. Make him like a 6/8 or so and this card is cooking tbh
Playing this in Wild with Brann gives you only 5 murlocs unless they attack and die right after being summoned. Probably one of the only cards with a positive battlecry that is not better with Brann.
Great reno card - the archetype thats gone in 2 months andd got absolutely gutted by nerfs
To be fair, the Zerg cards look very good, Protoss and Teran are gonna get murdered.
If Brann was on board you would get five (if your attacking face) - 8 (if you successfully trade in the original 4)
you cant go face with it
reno warrior brann would get you 6 you wont need the space for what normal brann would waste
also the warlock murloc that makes the next murloc cost health goes well with grunty
Seems like a fun card but is too weak to see play. 8 mana 3/4 is kinda dumb esp when you get the 2 cost murlocs.
8 mana?
Will be buying the golden Mini Set. Looking forward to be playing 🙌 Huge copium for having a bigger 2025 esports year in HS
We need the zeddy France vlog
Im already waiting for Mark to make an otk combo with this 😂
guess they wanted to avoid another Titans yogg situation lol
Love your work bussy I'm ready for this miniset !!!
How does Zeddy think this is a good card? Easily the worst card of the set along side the Warlock cards.
bran warrior might be the only deck that uses this. kinda upset about this one. was hoping for a spirit of the badlands effect for zerg, protoss, or terran minions respectively.
My new favorite card and its going straight into the murloc wild deck
Gruntly should be 7 mana. 8 mana 3/4 is just too slow.
Grunty sounds fun in an evolve shaman
I think 8 mana 3/4 with this battlecry is not very strong, maybe 6 mana make more sense?
turn 4 grunty in wild is op but difficult to shot
MEH
I actually wouldn't rate it badass ( but of course, a truly decent to good card) given that there are measurable chances of low roll. Maybe Druid in wild could afford the randomness .
The murloc pool is shitty for tgis vard but the card may be fun after rotation
Unironically could be good in big shaman
I'd say 1-2 because it's just too slow against aggro and too weak against controls. You basically have roll the 6/6 or cookie to make a thread and since the shooting is forced if you roll cookie as first unit you're just forced to shot him into something and that means he just dies with no value
I would try this card just for gigs and shittles, seems pretty average but fun.
Grunty seems like a good ole classic card people wouldn't hate to see the enemy drop and is a healthier card compared to most that come out.
This is not healthy. Is ass. It would be ass in Rastakan. To clear a board you need to highroll. You need an empty field to get them to stick.
I'm sorry Zaldo, but given the current state of the HS meta, there is no shot this card sees any play. Cool design, but no shot.
Wow. THIS is the Diamond card? Terrible stats and a worthless effect, nobody in their right mind is playing this.
Only sees play if it gets buffed to go face
Still pissed they added only like 2 murlocs to the freaking BEACH EXPANSION
2 mana too expensive
this new expansion is the only reason why im returning to hearthstone...
starcraft is just too great
I'm excited to test the cards too. Sadly, I don't think that this mini set will see any play as there are simply TOO few zerg/terran/protoss cards to work. Like - they're very synergistic, but you won't actually draw them consistenly enough.
Wild: Go Face, Warleader, warleader, warleader Murkeye, Muarkeye atk -> Legend 69
Badass indeed! Bad and ass, that is.
Don't forget the 8-mana Murloc Growfin in standard...
You can't generate gigantified minions, only their original forms. you'd be getting a 1/1
@@MinoriGaming fair enough, didn't know that
i thought it name was murky😢
This is the only card they designed that you can play outside of a thematic playstyle, yet it’s still terrible…
I like yhat its bad because it means that i dont need to buy the full set at all, since he wont be included in the 1200 gold faction stuff
