I sit and watch your videos for hours sometimes. You have a great channel, happy family, and a beautiful little girl to begin the next generation.
One reason I wrote was to just give you a little advice, if you are prone to accept it. I have been a mechanic for over 45 years. I still work sometimes, only sometimes because I was diagnosed with a rare cancer called a Pancoast Tumor.
I have been watching you harvest potatoes today, and something I have noticed with your equipment. It's always squeaking and just making all kinds of racket. Those machines need to be cleaned more often...power washer. Then grease areas where it squeaks. It will last longer, and it shows you care about your equipment. You may say that you don't have time? Clean it, grease it after you use it. take an afternoon and get all the boys together, and get some stuff working properly. Did those machines sound like that when they were new?
anyway, I love your videos so please keep making them. I hope I didn't make somebody angry about what I said. You are a great bunch of guys, and keep up the happy family.

In northern Maine I was third generation to work for the Caron family who grew potatoes. And I worked on a potato machine. And we took out the big rocks and whatever got missed before it went into the big trucks that were driving on the side of us. so this is interesting to see how you guys do it.

Takes a lot of time. There were people back in the days when those machines were pulled by horses that "created" one machine their entire worklife. One machine in 40-50 years.
Looks like there’s more rocks than stars in the sky but that machine did a good job keeping them separated . Nice job!

I wish I could get a wagon of your rocks from that potato harvester. It seems everywhere I move, I never have the rocks I need. When I started remodeling this place I am buying now, there was one wheel barrow load of rocks in the whole yard. I need 10 times that for the garden projects I have in mind.

There’s a huge difference tho between the veggie boys and Justin Rhodes tho Trevor. The veggie boys are honest to goodness, dirt to the bone farmers! They have been born and raised into farming and work it day in day out 365 days a year. Everything every single family member does revolves around farming and that type of farmer is a dying breed unfortunately. It’s a tough job but there’s no job more rewarding than what they are doing and Justin Rhodes “farm” can not even be remotely compared to what the veggie boys are doing!
Mark Oliver I have no need for my farm to be online because everything is sold to the local community right from my produce store on the farm and I don’t need any additional advertising at all so there are no links. My farm is bout just like the veggie boys except instead of growing 80 acres I grow 20 with a smaller store and one 40’x48’ greenhouse and I don’t have large livestock, I only raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, and rabbits.
I’d be pulling another wagon for rock. Looks like the best crop of rock next to my dads land.
Lots of rocks but it sorts them out well. Always liked growing potatoes.

When i was younger like mid 60s we picked potatoes by hand into burlap sacks. We use to hand then on some picks on each side n it wad like a belt that we use to put on. We looked like peticoats around us this was in idaho.

Awesome!!! Really enjoyed video! Your channel is going to blow up! This is pretty much how we farm too. We started a produce market store on our farm two years ago and trying to grow it to good size operation. We farm around 800 ac of row crops also, but I love growing ppl food.

How is your market doing? It takes a couple years to establish yourself. We have been doing it for a while now.
The Veggie Boys this will be our second year with store on farm. Last year we didn’t think we’d get the business we did, but it blew up super fast. Got 10 times the business we were expecting. We are pretty much the only farmers doing it in our area. We’re even growing “you pick” plots this year bc ppl want to come out to farm and pick some of their own stuff. I’m seriously thinking of letting roe crop land and equipment go if things keep going as good as last year. I enjoy farming grain and cotton, but sick of losing money

Hi Andrew , do you remove the rocks from the field as the machine is picking them up for you . it only seems better if a lot of the bigger rocks were removed !
id use that machine to clear out all the rocks in the field too.

It seems you have to have a machine for every veg you grow. Can’t you share that machine with 10 other farmers ? Seems like you only used it for one day ! You guys never stop working !
These aren’t ours actually lol, my cousins work at a farm where they raise 100plus acres of potato’s. We just borrowed the machine for the day
Where are you located, do you ever try to pick up the rocks, can’t imagine farming ground like that
North east Pennsylvania, We try to pick up the rocks but sometimes we feel like we grow them too. Its a lot of Marcellus shale from all the natural gas.
every time u turn over the soil up come more rocks I press them back in
I’m sure the boys are smart enough to build a gadget to harvest the rocks and use them as wall barriers (chicken wire) around the farm.

Do the smaller potatoes get sold differently? Do you pick up the rocks each year to get them out of the field, or do the potatoes like the rocky soil? Looks like everyone is there helping, good job.
Heck you need a cart to catch all the rocks and go make a rock pile out of the field.

So how many ton of rock do you harvest? Looks like about 50/50 rock to tater.
One of my guest professors was an extension tater specialist in Maine. I asked why Maine taters were always bruised. He said it was how they were handled. Does you harvester give you issues with bruising? Especially with all the rock?

Please, I do have a question as it was my first time seeing the big potato harvest or which saves you hand picking them off the ground then putting in baskets.
The question on the field 5.35minutes into the vlog, I saw rocks and many potatoes falling of the harvester, the potatoes looked good, why do they get thrown out with the rocks?

I just watched this video and I seen A LOT of rocks. Wouldn't it be beneficial to use conveyor to put rocks in bins/ containers and sale them or put on property that's not good for planting?
