    If you've made it this far in the description, remember to be safe when creature adventuring! Most wild animals can cause injury if harassed, and I do not recommend attempting to capture any creatures without purpose and practice. The reason that I interact with wildlife is to produce these educational videos, and I have years of zoology experience under my belt. Also, I always ask permission from a land owner before exploring on their property, and you should do the same.
    Keep adventuring everywhere, and keep your adventures safe at all times!

    I don't know what's more entertaining. The actual spiders or watching this guy just pick them up.

    So happy to not only see a fishing spider but also a Marbled Orb Weaver!! Orbies are my favorite spider species. I just saved a Cat-Faced spider from a cold freeze in my area!

      I think marbled orb weavers are the most beautiful spiders in NC, but catching the fishing spider was a whole experience haha.

    Love your videos. I saw a Chickadee bird caught in a Huge brown spider’s web (maybe Orb?) that went between two Oak trees here in central Texas. Biggest web I’ve ever seen, probably 8’ across. I know they have to eat but I set the bird free. Couldn’t believe how strong that web was, Black widows have strong ones also, Im sure you know. 🙂 I’m guessing next video is Hog-nosed snake.🤔 Thanks So much Ben! Best wishes! 🕷️🐍🦎❤️

      Wow, what a crazy observation! It sounds like it was an orb weaver of some variety if it had such a strong and large web, can't imagine seeing a bird trapped like that. Also great guess, we'll see next time!

    2:43 😅 Nice capture, great edit, Ben! Great job again of dissipating those fears most people have of spiders. That snake silhouette looked like something from AZ to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Note: Best part of capturing a live animal is showing the safe release. Would have loved to see the first spider released to its web. Edit: The log release was my fav part 🤓!

    I had one crawl up my shorts and bite my thigh when I was fishing on a dock in wisconsin. They get HUGE up north. I did not feel it crawl on me, I just felt the bite, which felt like a horsefly bite. I swatted my side thinking it was just that. An hour later it fell out of my shorts laying crippled on the ground 😳

    • @TheWildReportOfficial
      @TheWildReportOfficial  8 місяців тому +1

      Yikes, that would freak me out for sure! Glad to hear confirmation that the bite isn't so bad though.

      @@TheWildReportOfficial it wasn't what I expected. Not sure why it crawled on me though, I'm sure it wasn't attacking me. I felt bad I killed it too.

    Seen a massive female in the creekbed at paint creek park. Went down and took some pics of her. She was spectacular. Left her be completely because she had her egg sack in her jaws. She was probably 5 inches in diameter legs and all.

    I love fishing spiders and marbled orb weavers, so I’m always happy to see videos featuring them as the stars. You do such a great job with your education, you provide so much information and explain things so clearly, it makes learning about these incredibly misunderstood animals very accessible. Great work with your b-roll footage as well, those shots of the marbled orb weaver spinning its web are amazing. Can’t wait for more!

    Do you have any advice for carefully free handing a spider that is on a web? Is there a specific method you use to get them to not feel threatened? Also, great Video!

    • @TheWildReportOfficial
      @TheWildReportOfficial  9 місяців тому +2

      I feel like typically I try and get them to crawl onto my hand as they escape the web. They'll often drop and attach a 'dropline' silk strand to something, at which point I'll scoop them up from wherever they drop or allow them to climb the dropline to my hand. Thank you!

      They will often venture far from a body of water if there is a moist enough microhabitat for them to stay hydrated and plenty of prey availability!

    I wonder how closely related they are to huntsman spiders, or if it's a convergent evolution thing. I'm leaning more towards the latter

    • @TheWildReportOfficial
      @TheWildReportOfficial  8 місяців тому +1

      I'll have to look into it more, but everything I've seen points to them diverging a pretty long time ago and then reconverging on a similar body structure. They do strike a remarkable resemblance though!

      I definitely took down a few strands, but left most of it intact. They also destroy and re-weave their webs every 12-24 hours on their own, so it shouldn't take long to rebuild!
