I feel sad really for the future. The younger generation coming through as in mechanics, engineers etc are all new school, learning it all from books.. My fear is unless we as a generation are careful. All the old school knowledge and skills are going to be lost... The trouble is those old school skills and knowledge is what defines an ok mechanic into a awesome mechanic. One who does not just read from a book but has practical experience not just in the modern electronic stuff but also in the good old fashioned nuts and bolts of why something does something and how it works, what it does and why it does it... all that precious knowledge is going to end up being lost. I see you here rebuilding that housing all old school... I wonder if a new school would have even thought of it... instead of ok this is goosed need to replace.... It is heartening to see likes of yourself Warren, who willingly shares your experiences and knowledge to help others learn and grow in their skills. It is people like you, who will keep the old and true school alive and keep the world rotating as it should be. Your videos are not just a vlog of your days. They are a learning experience for anyone wanting to get into this field of work, filled with knowledge and hindsight. Thank you for all you do for what it is worth it is greatly appreciated by this person at least :)

I completely agree. I have the old knowledge,
but is too worn out to convey them visually.
I miss the time when I could work hard and heavy.

    • @fowletm1992
      @fowletm1992 5 років тому

Plenty of "old school knowledge" in the younger generation
We just Have to learn the new stuff as well because that's what the modern world needs
Plently of parts changers in my generation but there's plenty in the older genteations as well
A lot of knowledge can't be taught or learnt it's simply experience some of us get a head start
Iv got 15yrs experience as a 26 yr old being a farm kid
Others it's simply a matter of time in the trade to get experience

I just want to say thanks a lot for the way you explain how things work and how you speak your troubleshooting thoughts out to the camera. I’m based in Wales, UK. I’m not trained as a mechanic, but I live on a farm , so ending up doing a bit of spanner work at times. I always find it interesting to know how and why things work as they do/should. Also, how you arrive at the source of a problem. It’s like I’m serving an apprenticeship. Please keep up the good work. All the best, Nic.

Great work! Little trick I found works good on those axles for getting the races out, may already know but take you a torch and heat 3 spots on the race cherry red and usually they will fall right out! As long as it aint chewed up. We do a lot of Lull axles and they are all that style. Like the idea of drilling the caps out, save a lot of time and money with a little grease.

Hello Warren - I am in totally agreement regarding doing your own repair on that axle housing. Here’s a little hint that has served me well for years. Save all your old grinding wheels in various diameters. After several months you will accumulate many different sizes. Then you can pick one or more diameter disc’s to use in repairing your hole or cup. As you clean up your welding repair, you increase your disc size till your only a few thousandths smaller. Now your making your hole much smoother and rounder because of the surface area your grinding at all times. Trouble with die grinding with a carbide bit is, it’s always a series humps and hollows as carbide wants dig in.

@@CJE2007.5 I believe they call it nerve abulation??
For me, the test to see if it would work, was a steroid and pain killer cocktail they injected.. temporary, but OMG, Bliss!!!!!!
I've talked to some people, the only thing they get is an injection similar to what they used to test for me..
For me, they put needles in to the nerves at the facet joints.. lots of xrays to check placement. Then give a little shock to make sure it's where it belongs, if so.. about 20 seconds of electricity... Go home, find a comfortable position and sleep!!! It takes a few days, a week... Then all is well for 6 to 18 months.. I'm currently at 18 months... Got some twinges, a little sore, but tolerable.. I've made it 22 months before 😁
And once, at 5 months I was hurting.. but they can't do it anymore often than 6 months...
For some people, they never find the right nerves... For me, they did!!! It's either 4 or 5, I don't remember.... I think 5...

Every mechanic I know, myself included, has that same silly laugh that Warren had when he got the wheel up in the air and gave it a shake.
We all do it, first the laugh and then the OH @#$* when you realize that somebody was driving it and never even noticed.
    As far as shipping containers.
Insulation and some kind of heat or they will just rain on your parts. The condensation inside can be amazing.
Have had several at some of the places that I have worked.
The insulated ones were fine. Spray foam worked the best.
Mind you if it is damp and nasty, maybe the wife will keep out...

Hey warren, what’s your opinion on power quads vs power shift as far as reliability and usability? My neighbor with a 4440 swears up and down if we look at any tractor and see it has a quad range to just run away from it. Not really sure why though.

I’ve been doing the same thing, I set the caps in the lathe and drill them out, Deere used to in the older tractors must not of sold enough parts ha. Can’t beat a good wiener dog race👍

On another note, do you have a high school nearby that has a Vo-Ag or mechanical program? Maybe a student could catalog all of your parts and help you list and sell them. Perhaps a portion of the sales could be donated to the program that provided volunteers, or to the volunteers directly. The kid(s) could learn something about reselling and valuation, and you could turn some expensive paperweights into cash. ✌🏻

About the same size as Oscar - needs new front tires bad on that JD - needs a front alignment - do you have to buy a different axle if that's chewed up to bad

The thumbs down vote was from the JD parts department, they lost a axel sale
