Watching another older video for my post dinner chill routine again (and also get more hungry 😅). 70% of the time when I’m at this FC, it will be the standard 2 stalls - big prawn mee & house of soybeans (for the cold pudding beancurd). This FC used to have a famous $3 fish soup before they called it a day (around year 2018). Must check out the old school western before uncle retires too
Nice!. Most Hawker center people have crossed retirement age. I hope this dining culture and hawker centers remain intact. In the top 10 die die list No.6 Khansama is mentioned which is in Little India. I was a regular there even knew the owner very well. I hope I can be back in Singapore soon. Havent been there since 2010.
Interesting way to word it.. it's so obvious and yet I failed to describe it.."crossed retirement age" 😅 it's true! It's just that we here in Singapore.. folks have taken things for granted.. never really saw it that way.. that these folks should be enjoying their golden years
Enjoyed this video. Have not been there since 15 years ago. Yay ! I saw your comment that the stalls are opened at dinner time. What about the Zion char kway teow stall ?
Morning Mandy! Hope you’re having an amazing day 😊 I’ve always noticed him open in the evenings previously.. but I’ll go check it out again one of these days. It’s amazing stamina if he works from morn till night.
Mandy.. there’s a famous CKT stall at Telok Blangah Crescent that only opens at 530pm. Has over 40yrs experience. Hai Kee Teochew CKT. Although a bit far from east but ok la.. 30min from express way
Char kway teow looks so appetising 🤩 western food’s uncle still works so hard - stay well, uncle! Oh I didn’t know about sour plum sugar cane 🤩 usually ordered the one with lemon - gotta try this! 🤩 tray clearing system is so cool!
I always eat the western food and braised duck. Both are very good. One period also have Ah Siao braised duck, very nice too. Tried the dumpling and Padang food too. Goooood. Never bothered queuing for the CKT.
That Malay stall selling nasi padang is a friend of mine. I usually call him around 11am so he can put aside some dish for me or else nothing left by 3pm. Popular and price is very reasonable. His rendang and fried chicken is to die for. Anyway..nice video buddy👍
I notice you’re drinking a Carlsberg in this one. Approximately what price is beer in hawker centres? I know that drinking alcohol in bars and pubs etc is very expensive there so I’m curious to know if it is cheaper to drink in hawker center. I’ll be visiting next April…
It does doesn't it? all the same stalls in the same place..shifting back to vietnam or thailand anytime soon? heard Phuket might be opening for those with jabs..
@@Piggypuggy maybe they just refreshed what was old and fading....yeah we heard too about Thailand. VN said they were aiming for July opening but i think its a moving target leh.
Most of the Patrons here are the younger office Lunch crowd. Mostly responsive towards the tray return station with the conveyor belt. But of course.. there will still be a few tables with plates and bowls left behind
At Chinatown, people have other choices such as Outram Park Char Kway Teow. I have had this Zion Rd CKT many times, sometimes because I felt that the uncle might be having an "off day" so the CKT not nice. However, he seemed to be always having "off days". Prefer CKT from Hai Kee (former Margret Drive) at Telok Blangah Crescent FC and Sheng Cheng at Blk 132 Jalan Bukit Merah.
Uncle used his thong to fry the pork chops, but then he used the same thong to take one raw pork chop and touched the cooked pork chop again. This wasn't right.

Yah.. many of them just retire.. and nobody wish to take over either. Hope you’ve had a relaxing weekend 🌴
You are so lucky to have Hawker centre around. So many choices of delicious food at great price!
Thanks for another great tour!
Very blessed indeed.. almost every estate will have some form of coffee shops of Hawker centres.. most with single meals from SGD$3-10

Yeah.. think he’s probably 80 plus.. he’s happy cooking 😊 it was my first time trying plum sugar cane too 😂

What coincidence.. we got the same 2 favourites 🥳 it’s almost a no brainer.. other than that.. I might order that cai tao kway. Carrot cake

Waahh... Lucky you bro ☺️❤️ thanks for recommending! It speaks for itself too. All gone by 2pm 😂
Lucky you... please tell your friend his food is very nice. I don't usually get there so early so less chance to eat.
@@walkingwithme231 sure thing buddy.
The tray clearing system is amazing!! I've never seen that before

Many old stalls.. hasn’t changed. All just rested for 5 months during the long break for the renovations
what? newly reopened? when was it closed?
Yeah.. apparently Zion road hawker centre was closed for 5months. Renovations.reopened in late mar or April rhis year
i don't really buy western food outside but this uncle western food look nice, fries not overly cooked (my type of colour) and portion just nice.
I lovveee older stalls.. the older the better. Brings back memories for me. Just simple cooked food with some comforting sauce and bread 🥖🥰

Nobody buys the CKT when they shifted to Chinatown. No longer any queue after the disappointing taste during the transit.
