At Jeff Buckley’s last gig at Barrister’s, a tiny hole in the wall Memphis bar on Monday June 26th, his first words on stage were “Dead, dead, dead, dead, dead, he’s fucking dead, the guy from Brainiac is fucking dead. I want this to mean something to every fucking one of you.” He began to play “Terminal Cancer” a song that includes the line “The world has eternal cancer”. “I guess that’s how the guy from Brainiac felt,” he continued as he segued into “Hallelujah” in requiem for Brainiac’s Tim Taylor who had died in a solo car crash. Over the next hour and a half, Jeff joked with the audience, pointing out that there was free red wine at the bar that he had brought in for the audience. “Free,” he said, “that’s spelled f-r-e-e.” He continued with the rest of his set which included “Corpus Christi Carol,” a song he hadn’t performed live in over two years. “Is that how you like your rock heroes - dead?” he demanded.

They are inspirational to me as a long time musician. There are no valid comparisons. If you think they are some punk/rap/metal hybrid you are wrong. They were way ahead of their time, as intended. I'm not sure I could write that well even if I took a lot of drugs or meditated. Needs more cow bells!
Shellac. Big Black. Clearly they're Albini and Devo inspired. Hardly ahead of their time. People need to learn what that phrase means instead of throwing it around trying to sound smart.
I was lucky enough to be exposed to these guys and other Dayton bands when I was a teenager. I lived on Alberta in the same house Michelle lived in. Huge influence on me. The whole scene was awesome.
crap, i didn't even notice that. my vcr must have lost tracking for a second or two.. Hopefully i'll have time to try encoding this again sometime. Maybe get my hands on a better vcr and/or digitizer.

he died like 3 days after that concert too right? Might’ve been 4 either way rip tim and jeff

I hate poetry and his lyrics almost made me interested. Just add drums poetry. It's that simple. I adored them so much.
