    Old PC parts are awesome and it is so unfortunate that we lost all this personality and variety from PC components in two decades or so. Now most computer builds try to achieve some specialty with unnecessary amount of RGB but non of them can achieve this feeling, can't really describe :)

    That GPU mount is extremely technical, I love it.

    • @HappyBeezerStudios
      @HappyBeezerStudios 3 роки тому +5

      That is the real spirit. Doing a bit work to get things working. Did something similar on the Socket A cooler for my Pentium 3. The mounting hook was a bit long, but nothing a Dremel can't deal with. Same for a diy benchtable from some old case.
      Also reminds me on the copper shims people put on their Athlon XP to protect it when using coolers with higher mounting pressures.

      @SeriousGlitcher 3 роки тому +6

      @@RETROHardware even more costly tryna do this today, bc of you I started to get back to my roots when I started pc gaming & man getting retro parts is not only hard but expensive, I'm doing a retro xp build rn with a lanparty 939 ultra I paid 200 on ebay but came with mint box cib using a Athlon 64 3400+ with a asus silent knight the cpu only costed me 30 usd but the cpu cooler new I'm box costed me 80 usd, still need memory & gpu, I wanted a chieftech dragon case but that's impossible to find so got a ultra wizard case brand new for 200 shipped which that case is the next best thing and psu I got a ultra a 500 watt ultra it's the neon green one that reacts to black light, that costed me 60 usd and brand new in box, so I'm pretty much almost done just need memory and gpu

    • @phillycheesetake
      @phillycheesetake 3 роки тому

      @@SeriousGlitcher Man, that's some coincidence. I'm doing a 939 build also, except I went with an Asus A8N32-SLI deluxe because I didn't feel like paying for a Lanparty. Also got an FX-60 with the board, and I'm reusing my old Scythe Zipang.
      For my PSU I have a Tagan BZ-700 with the glowing modular ports, and I haven't settled on a case or graphics cards yet. I have 2 Akasa Vortexx Neo's I'm going to mount on them, so if anyone has suggestions for appropriate cards/cases I'm all ears.
      I hope your build works out. Athlon 64 lives on!

    Interesting take on a diy vertical gpu mount there, motherboard probably only needs a bios update too support the q9300 or whatever the processor was, got plenty of room for overclocking the q6600 for sure, 3 ghz should be no sweat, just lowering ram speed one step from its rated overclock speed, putting 333 fsb & a bit more core voltage if it's unstable & it's done pretty much.

    Super cool, a sea of copper in one build, very well thought out. Those GPU standoffs were a bit overkill but if you wanted it screwed in it's a great technical solution. Too bad for no PCI sound but I guess this is the point where on-board audio was starting to get decent (P35, P45 and on).
