If he manages to break the WR and run sub 43, he’s literally be one of the greatest stories to tell in sports history
Hope yohan Blake can do the same
Literally
Literally
Literally
Literally
If Wade can win World's this year it just might be one of the greatest comebacks of all time.
Absolutely!
Absolutely
the king reclaims his throne
when, i'm calling it now!
You can tell he really loves the sport. A lot of athletes would have retired after that injury. Hope to see him back at the top one day
i'm so happy for him
Well said he a fantastic runner
Yes
Likewise 😊 I was smiling after seeing the news of this run
i love your videos
Borzah is a track fan?!?!? No way
Just to clarify. Wayde ran the Semi-Final on Saturday morning (01-04-2023) at 10h30 in a 44.95sec and 4hours and 10min later at 15h10 he ran the final in 44.17sec.
So that is 2 sub 45sec 400m’s within 5 hours of each other.
Not only did Wayde accomplish this but also the 20year old Lythe Pillay who finished 2nd.
He ran a 44.94sec semi-final and a 44.80sec in the final.
Who places races like that? There should be at least 24h between runs
Best of all is that he ran this time at an altitude of 1600m!
@@jaconortman8144 I think altitude is alleged to be good for speed though
@@DavidLeidy you are correct.
@@DavidLeidy not for distance
Incredible performance honestly, fastest time we seen in him for like 6 years
I really hope he’s back at the top of the top in the 400m if I could go back in time I would lock him in a room the day that rugby charity match took place
Me too. Why on earth would any world-class athlete risk injury by playing f-king Rugby. What was he thinking? (And, I love Rugby. But still...)
@@ubercopywriter only South Africans think rugby is harmless
I hope he goes 42.8.
As a fellow rebuilt-ACL club member, I can really really appreciate the work he had to put in to get back what was gone for a while.
There’s nothing like that day when you go to the gym or to the field or to the track, you open up the throttle to see what’s there and *finally* just know, “Yep, there it is. We’re back, baby. It feels a little different, but I’ve still got it.”
Sometimes it feels even stronger knowing that you deliberately focused on building it back in a way that will protect it.
He seems like a relatively humble dude, too. I wish him all the very very best.
42.8 is crazy
I'm pulling for this man, no one deserves it more than him
Me too.
His fastest season opener ever. I just hope this doesn’t mean he’s going to peak too early this year. Either way, I’m super excited for what he can do this year.
I think he was just testing himself
If he manages to break the WR and run sub 43, it will literally be one of the greatest stories to tell in sports a movie will made
Yaay Wayde! What a fine example of resilience. He did not allow his injury to defeat him - he worked hard & is back to outstanding form. An encouraging thing is his injury was a rugby injury. & is unlikely to occur again. Goed so, boet.
Agree, hopefully it has been long enough since the injury (2017) that any imbalances caused by it have been remedied.
Such a feel good story! We’ll never really know how low he got, or how hard he’s had to work to get back to this level…hopefully he can get back to his very best!
He has one objective to be the first man in history to break the 43 second barrier.. 💯💯🔥🔥🔥🤷🏿♂️👏🏿👍🏿👊🏾🙏🏿🙏🏿
He's going to do it... especially if you have Kirani, Gardiner, Allison, Cherry & Norman in the final. It'll be the final of all finals!
Could watch this channel all day long
Hes officially back. He strolled through that first 200. Excited to see what he runs when he gets out aggressively like in 2016.
Yep a low 44 as a season opener is pretty damn damn good, and considering what all he's overcome to reach it makes it even more crazy! It's such a delight to see him back to genuine competitive shape....something once in a while I had given up on as a sad state of affairs.
I'm so happy to see his kin one of his best performances.
as a 400 mt dash when I was young I can confirm that back at this level after injured ain't easy. Now on top ofof his anger to prove to himself that he is here and what was considered a ghost! so excited to watch more of his performances love you man you are my idol
at the AGE of 15 i was running 400 mt in 48.5 than an car accident stop for continue !! that's why I'm sure it will be the next 2 years superlative !
Wayde, jou terugveggees is super!Ek hou duime vas!
Michael Johnson beat the 400m record at the age of 33. Wayde is still 30. He can definitely get to his best. If he can get back to sub 10 and sub 20, I believe that he can try to challenge his record
“As always…Van Neikerk is an absolute legend”🥹🙌🏽
Love it as he is one of my all-time favorite 400M runners. I know he would have probably run a low 42 second 400M by now if not for his horrific ACL tear in 2017! I ran the 440 in high school and then 400M in college until a major knee injury in the fall of my sophomore year which ended my collegiate running career, but never came close to any of Wayde Van Niekerk’s times! So happy for him!
A knee injury during sophomore cross-country season ended my track career.
Nobody’s doing low 42s dude. It took a half-century to bring the world record from 43.86 to 43.03.
We've been waiting for this man. He's gonna have a 2023 to remember
He is a legend for what he has achieved. We, as South Africans, need to honor him for his record that he holds. We are proud of you. I was privileged to watch it live at Potcheffstroom stadium. The entire stadium was alive and cheering for him. We is a true role model to our kids. Well done again.
❤😊
Reigning world junior champion Lythe Pillay ran 44.80 in second place to qualify for Budapest 2023. Congratulations to both.
I’m so happy to see him back on top again, especially with this type of finish in the final 100M…that part alone is very promising!
Just want him to stay fit and consistent this year. Obviously, he is capable of mid 43's but think he can pace himself in and around late 43' to early 44's to dominate.
This guy seems so humble. He deserves everything a true inspiration❤
Excited for this. This season is going to be a crazy competitive one across most specialties and I'm here for it
So amazing to see him make this comeback. He brings the smoke
Let’s go Wayde!! Trust the process champ 💪🏽
I have been waiting for him to hit top form again. He is a phenomenal athlete!
A long road back. I commend you for you perseverance and belief.
Didnt shock me, true wayde vans expected this!!! Hes been working hard and healthy since the adidas street meet last year!
This guy is a living inspiration.
Wade is incredible. I hope he goes after the 200m world record as well.
Huh?! He has a 19.84 200m PB which is good but nowhere near 19.19! His unfortunate injury took away the opportunity for him to run a sub 43s 400m WR not run a new 200m WR!
Don't get ahead of yourself now
Lyles will probably break it
😂
Long. L 0 N G. weigh 2go tho
What an incredible man and inspiration
Thats our Boy!!! Wayde you biscuit!!🇿🇦
Waited so long for his comeback and it's great he's getting closer to his top form.
He really can get a medal at Budapest, I just wish he won't have an injury. And his peak time this season will be around 43.70-43-60.
It’s good seeing Wade rounding into form. He’s been through a lot.
Thank you for making the video you always deliver.
The legend is back! So proud of you boykie. You are the real deal when it comes to the 400m but we know your talent extends beyond just this category. Cant wait to see you you reclaim that world title. You cannot keep a good man down! Proudly SA!
“just like a phoenix rising from the ashes”. He couldn’t have worded that any better 😮💨
Love to see him in shape!!! What a return! 👑
WVN is easily my favorite 1/4 miler
Yes Wayde 🇿🇦❤
Hard work and determination.
Spesiial mention to Piay jr World champion with pb of 44.8
I feel like a proud father 😀🇿🇦
Yes!! 👏🏾 I love it when you end the videos like this……”as always ….is a beast/legend” “….until next time” is boring…lol!
As always great video!
Hope he gets back into the mid 43s
Amazing comeback. I think he'll run in the 43s for sure this season
He’s back! I had no idea until you posted this video. I’m a huge fan of Wade, hope he can do something massive.
I witnessed the race first hand... Such a spectacular race... All i gotta he's back
Definitely one to watch this szn ! I'm happy to see he's fit again and ready to goooo !!
I love this. I want to see him at his best again.
Getting closer & closer to a sub 44 WvN once again and hopefully a consistent one at that! Hopefully we get the same with the likes of Kirani, Gardiner, Allison etc given how slow last year's WC Final was!
His final 150 is crazy! Literally looks like he’s floating with how little time his feet are in contact with the ground
@trp man... This guy is just relentless and always trys for the best. Wish him all the blessings and luck for his coming endeavours. He deserves it. ❤️🔥
Absolutely going to smash his record #ProudlySouthAfrican we all proud of you!!! #VanNiekerk
He will smoke them all and perform under 43 for sure 🔥🔥🔥🔥🕺🏽
Delighted for him. I reckon he can get down to 43.5 this year.
This guy is the Lionel Messi of his discipline. It's a priveledge to watch him 👌🏼
This is fantastic news! Van Neikerk is one of my favourite athletes of all time. Both my brothers have broken an acl - so I have some appreciation of what this comeback means. I don't want to jinx his season with predictions - that fact itself shows how much I love this athlete!
My guy!!! its been a long hard journey but we're back. All the best for the season.
He's back!
Beautiful to watch, strong but not bulky, able to hold stride an momentum fab, thanks
Wow! That's a great time at this time of year. My man is BACK!
Wayde for th e wr, he’s gonna get it
I totally agree with you on everything. I really hope and pray he stays healthy. Being a former TnF athele I know how tough it is to make a come back. Especially after becoming the WR holder. Wade is a real Hero.
Peace N Love
Congrats Wade!!!! So happy for you boytjie😁😁😁
I'm rooting for Van Niekerk so hard this year. A comeback like this only happens in movies. Its already a great story, but would be beyond epic if he comes out on top again.
Wayde is in it to win it, keep it up.
First of all, I am so happy to see Van Niekerk back in championship form. I will try to temper my expectations; but I think that he will get into at least the mid 43 second range (43.4-43.6) and be on the podium in Budapest.
GG for his competitors. That's all I have to say
I don’t think this was his first race as he had to qualify in two leagues and a league championship to qualify but yeah .
Wayde is coming back and showing the world he is still the king🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Yeah, he had to have won provincials to get there
I think so to, but apparently our senior Champs was his first appearance this year on the track. I think because he ran 44.33 late in 2022. It allowed him to qualify for Nationals since some qualification periods for most championships start about 3-7 months before the actual championships
It was his first. Roy b, Cape Town 🇿🇦
He had a heat on Thursday, and Semi Final and Final 5 hours apart on Saturday. Qualification rounds prior to the final.
@@khumokwezimashapa2245 Ohk yeah I forgot about that ,does it also apply for juniors?
i have a feeling he's gonna break his record bro
God bless
looks like he eased up at the end too
Wow 6 years recovery to come back 🔥🔥🔥
After his injury, just seeing him run once was enough of a celebration for me. He didn't have to win, just run. Watching him overcome every obstacle, working tirelessly to prove all the naysayers wrong has been magical! He is without a doubt the greatest 400m athlete in the history of the sport.
Sub 43 this year. He’s back🔥
I wish him all the best!
He said he wants 42.99
Im truly believe that he will be on the podium in this year global championship, and even will take the gold, since he is so motivated to get back to his old shape. However I don't think he'll be able to brake his own world record.... Its been 7 years and the body is not the same...😢
SO happy to see WVN come back to form!!!
You forgot to mention that his 44.11 was run in May of 2016. This new 44.17 was in early April, one whole month earlier in his new season…
I hope he fired the agent who got him that rugby gig.
I'm his biggest fan, he is superman, no one is as determined as Wayde. Been watching him since his high school days here in South Africa. But remember, it is run at altitude. Roy b, Cape Town, South africa 🇿🇦
Beautiful running
Happy to see him back..again
Yes Lord!! Please let him win another gold, let him break his own world record. .. he’s worked so hard. I want this for him so badly
Wow, this is so amazing, I’m SO happy for him. May God bless him. We’re ready to see greatness again 🔥
Wishing him the best lots of healthy racing and fast time's one of a kind
Wayde is back!!!!!!!
I knew he would return to form 🎉
Wayde splits: 11.2, 21.6, 32.5, 44.2 (400m splits rounded to tenth) (11.2/10.4/10.9/11.7).. pretty reserved for Wayde in first 200m. Looks strong
I have always maintained that after his injury - if he stays healthy he has the work ethic and talent to beat the current crop of 400m athletes (including Michael Norman and Steve Gardiner in any major competitions. The ney sayers has been writing him off - saying that age( 30) has caught up with him and and he will never be the same athlete again. Even if he dont break his WR again - he is still good enough to kick ass. If he stays injury free - i wont be surprised if be wins this years World A Championship and next years 400m Olympic gold. Research shows that 400m runners - run their best times between the age of 30-34. For the ney sayers - write WVN off at your peril
I won't be surprised either. While I love Gardiner, James & Norman... I'm rooting for Wayde to win it all!
So pleased for him. Previously the second most prominent South African T&F athlete. Eclipsed only by one who ironically was only just this week denied parole for the murder of his girlfriend. The Blade runner
rooting for the boy
Impressive.. REALLY want to see a 42.x 🙋🏾
Bro I'm 25 years old. I want to get into Athletics( long jump and sprinting). Give me some tips. Please reply.
Work hard. Dream big
Have you not run before ? If you have, , what are your best times. Roy b, Cape Town south africa 🇿🇦
@@roybean7166 I used to run before, but that was during my school days( 13-17 age ). I don't remember my time, but won the 110 hurtles race ( district level)
@@roybean7166 now I gained some little fat. I'm now focusing on my fitness now. What should I do to get in the Olympics?
@@roybean7166 please reply
He’s back, no arguments there. Plus he looks like he’ll only get faster as the season goes on.
Excited to see him back to his best
Great run, I'm happy for him. It takes a lot to keep training after an injury takes the joy away. You keep thinking, "If I'd trained this hard and this carefully before the injury, my times would have been much faster than they were!" It's a true struggle to train twice as hard for ½ the results. You can bet your last dollar that this year's opener was harder for him than his WR.
