Gutted to have missed the mountains, the rain ruined everything, even our recording equipment, gopro and headsets drowned. Every road we tried had some issue, mutiple car accidents, washed out roads or snow covered mountain passes. Without the Gerbing Gear we would have really struggled, what a life changer the heated vest and gloves were. Do you guys ride with heated gear? Whats the coldest temp you've ridden in? Those areas in winter get really really cold. If you're coming back in November next year it will be a different experience altogether. Try and come to the Western Cape and explore the fantastic scenery and roads here 🙂
Nothing like riding in cold rain! Those kinda rides can certainly make you question why you're out there, but I think it's just a way to practice my riding in the rain skills!
I hate days like this when I am touring, but into everyone's life a little rain must fall. On our last trip to the USA from Canada we hit massive thunderstorms on the last day coming home. It just dumped on us for several hours. If it wasn't for the fact it was on the last day and we knew we would be home before nightfall we would have stopped somewhere. Thankfully we were not on the main highways but on secondary routes so the traffic was very light.
Haha you can say goodnight to that chain, sorry guys but you are wearing totally wrong gear for this type of trip. with full understanding you come from the custom world, best regards from the north of Scandinavia

Thanks for the tips! The tour to SA in 2025 (hopefully) will be riding through the western cape starting in Cape Town

Tbh had we worn our waterproof trousers we would have been fine. The weather prediction said it would stop and warm up which never happened.
But we had a great time riding even with the rain. A fun experience for sure

that chain definitely is toast. I tension my chain when the up-down movement exceeds 2inches. (S1000xr)
Riding in the rain is never pleasant.especially when it’s cold.
