    I’m glad to see another widely respected climate scientist engaging candidly with journalists and the public on these issues, but surely it is time for such well informed pillars of public service to join civil resistance groups in challenging governments over their inaction. The presence of such individuals on the front line is desperately needed.

    Powerful talk. That treaty clause sounds like a similar clause in the TPP, where countries can be sued for loss of profit where the countries change policies as required by a changing world, and those “agreements” are negotiated in complete privacy. Disgusting. A positive thing that is going on in some US states is that other regions are picking up on the success of Netherlands groups who sued the government for failing to provide a safe future environment for up coming generations.

    Excellent presentation from Julia. I know she will be aware of this, which is why I'm asking as economics is not really my thing and I only see it in broad terms. It has been my understanding for a long time, that a major portion of the value of oil companies, are their reserves i.e. reserves still in the ground. So these reserves, and the companies themselves, are only really worth something, if the oil, gas etc, is eventually extracted. That if these reserves can't be extracted, not only do these reserves, become worthless, then it is the same with the oil companies themselves. They become stranded assets. This is why for decades I've just seen oil companies as clever liars. It has never been in the interests of oil companies to reduce future fossil fuel burning and emissions, because if that happened, their company's worth would collapse. Presumably, they have massive loans taken out, secured by their company's worth, and the worth of these assets. In other words, if government had ever really reduced future emissions and fossil fuel burning, the worth of these fossil fuel companies would collapse. As so many none fossil fuel companies and billionaires etc, have so much invested in this, that it would send shockwaves through the financial markets. Hence why governments and so much of the establishment are protecting fossil fuel business as usual. It seems a tough nut to crack, and we can't rely on governments or any of these people to reform this.

      Interestingly this situation is better than I thought. Apparently investors have been pushing Wall Street to go green and the US House Republicans, beholden to big oil funders, are trying to legislate the prioritization of gains over green. Very good to hear that this is a big fight. Article on Politico today. I'm not pasting a link, because I'm afraid UA-cam will delete this.

    Talks a good fight, BUT:
    - she denounced the leader of the (excellent) MEER project, an albedo enhancement project, which is one of the few hopes for expedient global energetic rebalancing;
    - she supports the international criminal fascist organization Blackrock;
    ... and more. I was shocked, actually.
