    This is a big project to start but once the box is done, it becomes less tedious! The result is amazing! It's cool to see those consoles back to the way they were supposed to be! Great video and keep up the good work!

    Appreciate the guide, was looking for something specifically like this for the clear GC shell. However, I would suggest including some "before vs after" footage.

    Dang! There's alot of steps that go into this but good info to know if the need ever arises! Thankfully none of my consoles look too bad after all these years.

    As I understand it, the shorter waves that the UV-light creates, the more effective the process is. The lights here are about 350 -400nm, but if yo can get one below 350nm, it will speed up the process.

    if you want something that will get you better results for snes and controllers like it, you can take a large pickle jar and spray the outside with liquid mirror spray paint and use painters tape where you want to stick the leds. then after its done drying you can mount your heat lamp above the translucent lid, ( i use the metal clasp to the pickle jar and a cd jewel case cut to a circle with a gasket. and mount your heat lamp above.
    use breathing and facial and hand protection when handling spray paint! and let it fully dry.

    I have a very large guitar amplifier with some yellowing on top and normal bleach didn't work. I might try building a box and setting it on top of the amp since it's too large to put inside any box haha

    • @jundar73
      @jundar73 6 місяців тому

      You do not need a box. Just use a h-peroxide cream, plastic wrap, sun heat/UV outside. Under Florida sun it takes about 4-6 hours.

    Best way to cut that hole would be to use a Dremel or similar rotary cutting tool.
    They're actually available at Walmart, at least the store near me, so availability may not be a big issue. And price is okay.
    They're good for plastic, you can get / use other rotary blades rated for things like metal too.
    Edit: It would also give you a way cleaner cut. But y'know I've been there haha, just doing whatever works

    Have you tried only using the UV box without peroxyde? I'm guessing it would take longer, but can you get good results that way too?

    • @burdyle85
      @burdyle85 2 роки тому +1

      @Levon Gevorgyan I tried using only UV light to reverse yellowing on a psOne controller after I wrote my initial question, and it actually DOES work! It took 2 weeks though,

      @Levon Gevorgyan I'm trying to send a link to the picture but I guess youtube doesn't allow urls in the comments so... But honestly you should try, I started seeing results around the 3rd or 4th day

    What temperature did you settle on as being optimal and what mixture of 12% peroxide to water is best, and where did you end up sticking the heat sensor? Just inside the box anywhere?
    Also have you tried using oxiclean in it?

      Absolutely I can, maybe I will sprinkle that into a video here soon or make a dedicated video on the topic. I think they are both fun stories more than anything.

    Hi, would it also work with a 30 volume cream? Just in case, is there any chance it would damage/wipe off the logos or the writen text on a GameCube controller (top part)?

  • @Maj0ra

    This is absolutely amazing. It almost feels unreal and fake, but why would it be? I honestly thought the yellowing was permanent for old consoles/hardware as some sort of result of the plastic hitting the air, but I'm guessing that's some weird heresy thing I've learned over the years? Is this dyeing the console or is it restoring it? Is there any downside to doing something like this? Thanks so much for such an interesting video.

    I just use liquid hydrogen peroxide in a box like yours and just use a clamp lamp with any bulb pointed at the item. It works every time and you don’t have to attach or glue lights strips.

  • @ryan89554
    @ryan89554 Рік тому

    its better to put it in a zip lock bag with peroxide no streaking or blooming plus the cream has additives and leaves it uneven

  • @ScruffyLookinRGB
    @ScruffyLookinRGB 2 роки тому

    Good tips ill have to try the cream stuff sometime. Have you ever tried just hydrogen peroxide? Thats pretty much the only thing ive ever used. Downside is you need a lot of it. But in the states im sure its cheaper than it is in japan. Sweet box man good idea with the heat lamp too. I use some grow lights i bought off of amazon and since the box i use is pretty small the lights by them self get the box pretty toasty. But i need a bigger box for saturns and pcengine duo-r for sure. Great tips man!

      it looks like the liquid salon product's first ingredient is water, so pure hydrogen peroxide from the store could probably be diluted even further

    • @ChiodosBlowsDogs
      @ChiodosBlowsDogs 2 роки тому

      You're right hydrogen peroxide is really cheap here, you could probably get enough peroxide to retrobrite something as small as a controller for 2 USD

  • @markkirbylyons239
    @markkirbylyons239 Рік тому

    I have to ask. I used to do this for a retro company 11 years ago and the items used to become yellow within a month. I did use the cornflower and peroxide 40 volume under a blacklight. Has your items stayed white months after your method?

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  Рік тому +1

      They do yellow again over time, but my results have been good with results lasting a pretty significant amount of time and some consoles remaining good for 4 to 5 years. I think the key is after this to not expose them to heat and UV light

      @@RockerGaming thanks for the quick response. I have heard a clear lacquer has been recommended, but I tried that and it was the same ending. I think your method using foil is a fantastic idea!

    When you readd the cream are you washing the console down or your just added more cream to it ?

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  2 роки тому

      I generally add more the 1st time and then remove it all the next. A quick spray down with a hose or kitchen sink makes quick work out of it!

  • @katyungodly
    @katyungodly 10 місяців тому

    One correction is that hair bleach doesn't discriminate, it will damage your skin as much as it damages anyone else's skin. Take it from an ex cosmetologist, it dries your skin out badly 💀 always wash up thoroughly and use lotion after touching this stuff, especially 40 volume!

    Can you enlight me about why people are still doing retrobright even when we now know that it gets back to yellow a few months / years later? And that the more you do it the more brittle it gets? I mean, real question here, maybe I missed something about it.

    • @RockerGaming
      @RockerGaming  2 роки тому +1

      Its a fair question. I have had really good luck with consoles holding their color years after retrobright. i will have to get some pictures posted as I still have plenty examples. Having said that, I know others have reported that it can turn yellow again. I cant comment on the brittle as I have not personally experienced that. I think the key is once you have retrobrighted the console is to keep it out of sunlight/heat if possible.
