  • I'm a big Bob Berg fan! Here is a transcription I did of him playing over the standard "Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise" on another UA-cam video. This is a duet of Bob performing with guitarist, Dan Adler.
You can download this transcription and 100's more at my website, www.charlesmcne..., for free. Enjoy!

You have done an excellent job of transcribing. You have all my respects Sir. Very inventive solo on an old standard; he certainly brought it back to life. Thank you for sharing.

That was good solo, but to me, Bob Berg's best work was with Cedar Walton Quartet and to lesser extent with Horace Silver. Bob was a close friend of mine and is missed terribly.

I only got hip to Bob in 2012… his whole sound, style, attitude, just everything about his music feels extremely personal and badass to me. Would you mind telling how you knew him, and maybe sharing some good Bob lore?

Charles....Thanks for posting. Do you use a slow down program when transcribing the fast phrases?? If so..Can you recommend one?

MrGolfer25 Very cool. I got Transcribe since I posted the comment. I think my playing has improved already just from figuring out what some of these guys are doing. Thanks!

Yea. No problem! But to be honest The real way to transcribe these solos is to just listen to them though and learn them by ear. but transcribe can be used to figure out the notes in the six tuplets and stuff like that. But yea, you're doing the right thing. so good work.

Yeah....I'm pretty good at picking it up by ear...but on the really high velocity phrases, it can be hard to pick out the individual notes. Transcribe is helping. Thanks for the encouragement and sharing with guys like me who are trying to get to get better at it.
