I buy my glue from richelieu.com by liongrip which is their own brand. Its commercial glue and not cheap retail and yet I pay around 53$ for 5 gallon my friend;)
Ben, thanks for showing all of us this technique. For all those saying it looks uncomfortable, I'm not sure that comfort was the end goal for this video. Per the description, "...possible to use inexpensive materials... make curved and hi end looking furniture". Personally, I'd very much enjoy lounging in this chair. Keep up the great work, Ben!
Really cool chair! Very creative. Just a suggestion for comfort and decor. Maybe add a small pillow with Velcro straps as a cushion for your head/neck.
I thought a headrest would be good, but Velcro strips on the wood would look tacky.; How about a "pillow" in two halves, one side padded, the other just fabric, that would fit over the top of the chair like a hat.?
All this chair needs is a cool paint job with bright colors or a amazing artwork that wouldn’t take away from the chair unique shape but only add to this amazing design and just make it pop or more eye catching.
Shawna ! Just my opinion but I think that would ruin the look, I just think the modern sleek look goes much better with bare wood instead of a flashy paint job
For the final (outermost) layer, I would use wacky wood. it's flexible enough on its own that you wouldn't need to do any kerf cuts. This would give a much nicer "finished" look (i.e. no visible kerf marks).
To obtain smother curves use a long thin piece of wood as a ruler. Just like the boatbuilders on the loft. Make the plywood and the space between the mdf, 2 inches wider and nail the plywood to the MDF at the edges. Forget about the opposing MDF. When the glue&plywood is Ok, cut it 1 inch from the edge. Sand the edge and you are done.
Ben - how heavy was the chair? As a wheelchair user, I've thought for a long time that plywood used in this way would be a great low cost method of providing lightweight wheelchairs in countries where more expensive options weren't available.
That’s a great idea! A quick search didn’t really come up with anything. If you’re interested in seeing something like that happen contact a local college with an industrial design program. It would make a great senior project. In the meantime, I did find a cool 3D printed concept.... www.behance.net/gallery/37333125/GO?tracking_source=search%7CPlywood%20wheelchair
Such a cool looking chair. It’s awesome to see something so cool come using simple tools and materials too (as if that’s not most of your projects, but always appreciated)
Might be worth mentioning that MDF is basically soft and hardwood sawdust bonded together with a formaldehyde based adhesive. Formaldehyde is carcinogenic and so avoid breathing in the dust particles. Cut outside if possible and wear a dust mask. Great engineering and very interesting video though. Might even give it a go myself..
Can you get that 1/8th plywood wet to bend it? Not steam, but just soaking it? That turned out great! How long did it take to design the templates? Do you have any tricks or tips on that part? Also was really awesome to see the entire process done by hand as opposed to cnc. Super cool to see it by hand end to end.

Dude awesome build, and I hate to be that guy but don't breathe mdf dust no matter what. If you must cut without proper dust extraction use a good mask, it's really not worth it. Again, very nice build, thanks!

you talk to much. no talking. no music.
Such a unique build. I appreciate all the work you put into it. Looks so good.
Your sense of esthetics dude. Amazing feel for beauty.

Its cool that you're doing Kerfing and Mike is doing steam bending. gives us the chance to see different techniques.

Dylan Thomas Hi and yea I totally agree maybe adding color or designs might destroy the look you were going for.
The opening in the chair would be great for newspapers and periodicals, or even a rolled up throw blanket.
For the final (outermost) layer, I would use wacky wood. it's flexible enough on its own that you wouldn't need to do any kerf cuts. This would give a much nicer "finished" look (i.e. no visible kerf marks).
Sean Palmer or at least flip the final piece so the kerfs were on the inside of the lamination
You made a full-scale template from 2x4's and MDF... but taking into account the thickness of the plywood "would be too much work" lol.
_ David _ laying down the law
Have you seen his work. Its half assed
The thickness changes throughout the lamination process anyways

hi, by opposing mdf you mean one of the mdf sides?
I love your job. Excellent project and execution. Congratulations. big hug from Argentina
Very nicely put together. I like your use of blocks on the molds to clamp your piece. Well done.

This mic on the left at the start and end of video... Eurk.
Best chair in any case!

2 much work and 2 easy to mess things up. Good work.
so great design👍👍👍
thank you!
My left ear really enjoyed the monologue at the end.
Super cool!
like the chair, simple and looks comfy
truly very nice result yet too complicated for anyone to DIY
Thank you recommending this app btw its just what I was looking for to boost my business. 😭👏🏾👌🏾😊
Отличная работа !
Briliant job! how many layers of 3mm plywood did you use? what was final thickness
Simple. Elegant. Thanks! I really like it.
Ah,..e. Tequila! I love this project. Nice build Mister.
Wow! This one is really impressive! Great challenge this year! Nicely done! 😏
The King of Winging It!! That came out really awesome!!
that glue if it gets damp or wet from water just comes apart should of used resin mix and it would make it very strong
Waou j'adore ! Quel boulot ! Bravo super idée !
This is a mission accomplished, well done!🤩🤩
thank you! this is one of my favorites
Крутая и кропотливая работа 👍👍👍
Very cool!
Wheres the pressure for the middle part during the clamping?
Hey Ben your intro audio is missing. Looks awesome tho!
Sounds like it is only on the left audio channel
Since we're on the subject, it would help if you added a compressor to your post-production and increased your gain ~10dB
Woah!!! 🤩🤩
Useful and aesthetic
Great project, looks like a lot of hard work but great chair
Even the ads are interesting 😀 Next level of content
Dude is fiiiiine.
This is awesome if you have an arsenal of clamps!! i think i have two so it would cost a fortune for me to buy clamps to do this chair.
my left ear and left ear only enjoyed that intro
troubles opening up that bottle ... congrats and good job
Great project! Thanks for the video and for the diy app recommendation!
That is gorgeous! I have no idea how you figured out all those forms. Amazing!
Insane work
SPECTACULAR
beautiful
VERY NICE WORK
Very good but my concern is my feet. If feet do not get support, it starts to stow. Can that be solved with a square footrest?
Pretty sweet
thats a lot of work for a fairly good looking chair
Thank you 🙏
Wow! That looks so awesome!!! I going to try making something similar to that some day.
Fantastic video! The chair is awesome
perfect
Rewarding once you done making it.
YUM!!!!!!
Wow! I think I just found my favorite channel!
Dope
Wowzers that is so good!
Since you keirf bending the plywood you could of went up to 1/4" and used less layers. Love the chair, that's a good project for the weekend.

VERR NIICE!!
NICE ... I am curious about cost
One of my favorites, awesome!!!
hola, para exterior que madera debe ser ?
You should have used a router on the edges at the end. Would have made it look more finely crafted.
Super technical job Sir .
Great project!
Gorgeous
Nice one man! Can't wait for the concrete one
That chair looks like a back breaker.
