I am on the brink of beginning a perhaps career in exotic dancing. I have never pole danced in my life and walking in high heels are going to be challenging. Its like a week away so making sure I am stretching my legs, not really super flexible. I have a sister who's basically helping me get started in the entertainment industry. I have been an entrepreneur my whole life. I am taking all this very seriously. According to the club where I will make my debut. I have spent nearly 20+ hrs. finding songs from growing up and found several that portray a naughty sensual inviting atmosphere.
It's a tinge raunchy but tasteful. I have listened to my 3 hr. play list and basically my debut shift will require me to do 3 different sets. I have already taken great and implicit care to really listen to the lyrics, to ignite the fire of desire in my audience, perhaps inspire an interaction for further dances and such, or merely connect with my audience in a memorable and important way. It's my debut so I think it makes sense to really really put it out there, it means a confident performance, the right music to set the mood, and to try and move my body according to the pulse of the music. I figure my formal musical training and experience spanning nearly 4 and a half decades may be a valuable insight I have that maybe younger dancers may have no privy to.
I'm an 80's classic metal girl and there are several offerings of songs that involve the suggestive sensual and suggestive lyrics that we all know from way back when. I decided to do this because I am comfortable to a point with my sexuality, but everyone can use more. I have one chance to debut on a plus, I have been researching pole routine videos and as much as I have been a 42 year self taught keyboardist and a guitarist since 1999 because of my dear friends of IRON MAIDEN, my musical appreciation has literally soared.
I have to hit a target of 4 mins per song, which can be challenging, and there's only one song by IRON MAIDEN that would be worthy of a pole dance routine. Sadly most of their songs go well past the 4 min mark.
I have to be fair to the other dancers that also are bound by the same constraints, some can go slightly under or over. Every song I have picked in my nearly 40 song play list should give me a decent pool to interweave and sculpt the mood and invoke a positive reaction in my audience. Look at me go I seem to have the fundamental building blocks to be potentially successful. Not to toot my own horn, I am giving this debut the respect it truly deserves.
Seeing your video and confirming that I am on the right mindset, has been helpful, but also willing to learn as much as possible.
I am much older, and I have a little extra on my person. I should end up getting an incredible workout, perhaps the nervousness will make me lose much desired weight. My sister who's helping me get started shared that I will be fine and has a good feeling about my future performance. This is is due to me taking much initiative before she shared to stretch, start wearing the heels around the house, she will be buying me a pair of dress code heels that I will require to embark on my journey on this never imagined or anticipated choice. I figured I have tried everything else to become financially relevant. Perhaps this could be my calling.
Passion, willingness to learn, and improve, are tools for success, plus perhaps the courage to try. I even have a really bad back too so I have meds for that to help in times of pain. Perhaps my embarking on being more physically active may prove viable to allow this to improve. The stretching and toning exercises, the subscription to Dance bit will start getting me into shape.
I even practiced some of my songs trying to develop choreography there are poles there, plus there's stage work.
When they did the study of improving basketball players, they had this study where they had a group actually physically doing baskets, another group just thinking and imagining doing it.
Turns out the group that thought about making baskets ended up doing better somehow. So perhaps that may prove successful, that if I watch videos and practice some of the movements, hard to do without a pole available but definitely I am certain the effort I am making nearly a week prior to this week long endeavor will be an incredible experience. I also will work for about a week, earn hopefully much needed cash I have desperately been in need of to help with bills.
In writing this testament of my genesis introduction into the exotic entertainment industry, I am full of thoughts and hopes, and slight terror perhaps. I really want and need this to work. So I will do my best make eye contact connect with my audience and maybe with some luck it will work out and put me on track with finances, maybe give me a little confidence, and become more in synch with my femininity, and sexuality.
I realize that its somewhat of a crash course regarding this debut. I need to do everything I can to ensure this is as successful as possible. With logic, I won't know how this will happen until I take the stage for the first time.
So basically I need to go 3 sets of 3 songs for a total of nine. That's part of the freelance contract I will most likely have. My sister has been an incredible source of information regarding this process. I am deeply hoping that my preparation strategy will dazzle me positively uplifting my confidence just as equally as I am endeavoring to dazzle my debut audience.
I may bring some golden oldie songs back from the past, maybe make some impact of maybe become great again. These lyrics are really intense with the right amount of pulse, and theme of exotic, and also sensual suggestiveness. I want the audience to connect with me, maybe desire me. I love attention so maybe this could be what I have been missing out on in my whole life.
I know some of the other dancers may be more flexible and more experienced, everyone has to start somewhere. The other reassuring thing is that the customers there are very very generous with their praise and welcoming and appreciating us women that have the courage to really put ourselves on display like this. My sister gave me some stretching exercises, I imagine after 6 hrs in my heels my feet will probably be killing me.
I recently discovered I have this inherent nature to please others. Pole dancing for them will give them a visual that they can be inspired to react to. I just hope I don't fall on the stage like i fear I am going to. My sister did that once and the audience was in a gasp oh darn. When she returned to her feet the audience cheered her on and encouraged her. So really everyone what do I have to lose? I think embracing this could lead me to an enlightening experience I can cherish for the remainder of my days.
You mentioned, the importance of your choice of songs to which you will dance. I am seriously compelled to piece the 3 songs in such a way to start of gentle then build to a climax with the 3rd song in the set. Things will get very visual by the third. Thank you for reassuring me knowing I am already doing the critical choice of song selecting and really knowing the lyrics setting the mood this will probably elevate my debut and performances compared to the more experienced women who will share the stage with me. I am proud to share it among them being an absolute beginner.
Again I never imagined ever even considering doing anything like this. I somehow despite initial misgivings seem to feel that maybe this could be a potential calling.. I have realized there are people out there who desire this entertainment. There is a need, we provide it. I soon will ad myself to the stage and be a part of this important entertainment industry, I only hope it will go as well as I imagine and am really genuinely hoping for.
I know I am overthinking this perhaps. I have often done this at times, sometimes it helps and other times its gotten in the way. I can be my own enemy sometimes. I will be careful and not try to do more than I can handle. I have to give the respect to this that I am a beginner and must take small steps.
Thanks to any of you who share any positive vibes and thoughts, thank you for welcoming me into this important industry, this pole sister humbly appreciates it. *muah*

Really good tips, the best one was about not having to have the whole choreography planned, just main moves and freestyle. I have a competition coming up and this is the first time I’m making a long two pole choreo. When making one for a showcase I realised I spent way to much time trying to choreograph every second. I also find freestyling to your song helps with improvising if something goes wrong

This is such an amazing video with really helpful tips!! I definitely will use this in preparing for my first competition. Thank you! I have a question on preparation since the competitions have 2 poles, but usually we don’t have access to the same setup during practice. What advice would you have for that?

Hey! Glad the video was helpful! I would recommend working on your combos separately at home and then renting a studio for a few hours (minimum) to make sure it all fits together and to create your floorwork.
