Sorry for deleting the video just one hour after uploading. It just hit me that I didn't discuss that one issue in 3D Mark's Timespy. Real games were completely fine when benchmarked with zero issues (minus the Radeon software bleeding through the game when first starting? I don't think that's an issue with the clock though. Booting a game isn't exactly demanding lol), but I still wanted to discuss it. I just had to take it down, even though I know the video will likely get far less views now. It's just important for me to say everything. Even at the 2625MHz max clock, it's STILL over 600MHz higher than the stock gaming clock. What a monster!

Probably mentioned down here somewhere but I want to reiterate... you can set the clocks that high but even with this better reference cooler the card is still quit limited with its thermal and power usage/target. This has been going on since Vega as far as I can remember. To my experience, the GPU's hotspot is actually what is limiting this gpu. The temperature that is shown by most statistics tooling (by default) is the overall temperature of the gpu die. I have a Vega 56, which used to have a reference cooler on it... I couldn't get past 1400 mhz, even though my thermals where toasty (80 degrees on full 100% eardrum blast mode) but it had still some room to tjmax (which was 105 i believe?) So using GPU-z I noticed that my GPU's hotspot actually really quickly reached 105 degrees, and it immediately started downclocking. No matter what I set in Wattman, and thank god... it would've burned a hole through my gpu.
In case of my odd temperature issues, I took it apart to put on a aftermarket cooler (morpheus II) and noticed a tiny hole in the vapor chamber above the die...
In that sense, if a great aftermarket company puts on a beefy cooler on this card, I think gains could be noted, maybe even significantly.
Story don't end there, regarding Stock...
This is just something I heard but makes sense in a way. Here in the Netherlands, the card never even went on sale by most third party retailers, except for a few preorders starting at 999 for the xt model (like... insanity..).
The most likely reason is that board partners got the choice to use the bought dies from amd on reference design OR their own design... obviously they went with the latter, but since those are still a few weeks out from being released, there is no stock at all of reference versions... none....
So I wish, but do not even try to hope, that stock will be better when AIB versions will be available, as most dies would most likely be used for those...

    @kaiser_nit0157 3 роки тому

Im pretty sure that theres was already an "problem" with last gen where overclocks don't lead to that much better performance and sometimes even decreased. I'd assume its due to the gpu having to correct so many calculation errors that it in the end doesn't get that much more performance out of it and sometimes even stays the same or just crashes like 3dmark. Also clock speeds don't matter that much due to the same reasons that tflops don't matter that much. Theres simply alot more going on in the gpu than just the shader cores.

I was mad that they ONLY sold online through their site, aside from a few in person sales. I didn't know that. If I did, I would have been on Amds site instead of amazon, newegg, best buy and B&H. I was online, waiting and ready, but I was straight up on the wrong page.....I guess I'll go for a board partner card next week.

Why not a vram overclock? It's potentially starved at 4k with the slower gddr6 memory, so ocing that might yield better results than a core oc. You can oc a zen3 to 6ghz, but it won't do much if your ram is only at 2400mhz cl20.

After playing with this for a week or so it does not care how high the max clock is set to other than getting that high and not increasing actual fps.Set your voltage to 1025 speed to 2300/2550 max out the power. And then watch it literally smoke every super high oc that you have done. Getting 80-90 in cyberpunk 4k ultra and its pretty amazing.

Seeing how high these overclock now(with little performance gains), and how high the 5700xt overclocked, also with low gains at launch, makes me hopeful, as my 5700xt is performing WAY better now than at launch, i think it improved in rough performance from 2070 super, to 2080(non super) at stock clock speeds, but now, it overclocks to 2025mhz instead of hitting a wall at 1850-1950mhz, all while somehow being cooler on the core and junction?

Wouldn't be to sure, one of the reasons that drivers improved perf so much over time at amd'S camp was the fact that the architecture simply was built in such a way that games couldn't get that much performance out of it without extensive optimization, them making an architecture purely for gaming probably means that this architecture is pretty good at extracting all of its performance, though ofcourse I could also be wrong on this assumption. Not that it matters that much, these gpu's are already pretty powerful.

I had the same experience as you OC'ing the card, except I noticed while benchmarking each increase of clock speed, I got zero performance gains. I dont believe the card actually hit 2700 mhz. The software is still broken.

well... I think the card is fully optimized for the speed of the vram.
so they found a sweet spot with the default setup, a good performance / watt
so you have to overclock the ram to increase the performance for sure
for now the overclocking is disapointing.

So wait, is the OC headroom all relative? In other words can you expect the same or close fps boost at max oc as you would with say a 2000 series max oc? Or does the extra voltage make a big difference?
Edit so I just saw the performance at the end, looks like it's all relative then.

Same with CPUs, won't get to the Max. Freq. if it can help it. As Lisa Su said: Zen 2 and 3 have tons of more sensors for temp, power, performance, to tune the efficiency of the CPU and now probably their GPU, so this sub-max and sub-min behaviour doesn't surprise me. Great clocks! The disappointing performance I think it's because of the very limited 256-bit Bus, instead of at least 320-bit, it got saturated and higher clocks, not even the Infinity Cache which is L3 Static-RAM Cache probably won't be able to compensate for it, or use 384-bit Bus and GDDR6X, for a +50% bandwidth, or just HBM2e; I think it was built for price and not really to out perform the RTX 3000s
