For those curious about the handgun used in the shooting. It's a Davis Industries P-380 chambered in 380 ACP and has a 5 round capacity. Davis Industries went bankrupt in 1999 and specialized in very cheap firearms. These guns make use of Zinc alloy in its construction (sometimes called pot metal) like the infamous Hi-Point pistols of the current day. These can sometimes be found for less than 100 USD on the current market.
They were $99 new! I had one in the 90’s. Couldn’t fire more than 2 rounds without jamming. How this guy didn’t have any obvious malfunctions is beyond me.
😂 I've been here too long when my 1st thought is, "It's a normal day here in LA " I did get an adrenaline dump the time a guy shot another guy in the leg just north of me .. and then ran my direction. I'm elderly with bad knees and it was before I got my hip replaced. Running was out of the question. But over the years I've noticed moving objects attack attention, so I just became one with the lamppost and he ran right by me, before he stopped at the cart of an ice cream vendor, lifted the lid, dumped the gun and ran off towards my house. I took my time getting home. The poor vendor was so freaked he didn't know what to do. First he thought he was being robbed and then he gets a gun dumped on him. That's Los Angeles.
My Marine daughter was stationed at Miramar and when she got her DD-214, she couldn't wait to get back to Idaho. Her fish eating, ball bouncer hubby was stateside and took leave to help her and their toddler son drive home. I had it the roughest, I had to drive his Porsche to Idaho. Anyhow, he couldn't leave until that evening. She had their son in the car, everything packed up and I was with her. As soon as she turned everything in, she nearly ran over her husband in her haste to get out of cali and yelled, "See you in Vegas tonight" and we headed out. He thought we'd leave all together that evening. She wasn't going to spend one minute longer in that effed up state.
for anyone wondering, the hand gun used was a Davis industries P-380, that gun is at least 24 years old. (they went out of business in '99) they where notorious for cracks along the frame and the slide (and barrel assembly) detonating randomly, cheap pocket pistol.

Am i the only one who was thinking that when they found him in the trailer, they should have walked back some distance pretending they didnt see him, call in backup and wait for it to arrive, then surround the trailer in a quarter circle so he has no escape and they can hit him from all sides? Like if you know hes armed and dangerous, why let him KNOW that you are aware of his hiding spot. That would have been the perfect chance to set up a perimeter around the trailer.
%100, but hard to say. Maybe radio was too busy. Maybe lack of training / planning but they seem well trained. They even had a bird in the sky who could scope it out. Maybe because there’s so many homeless people they thought it could be a homeless guy lol. Hopefully there’s some lessons to learn they were very close to being shot.
@@Lord_Zore If the radio is busy you speak the hell up and clear the air. Element of surprise was also a significant advantage they should have acted on. But DEI put them in that position to let him slip through their fingers once more.
@@mediocreman2 It’s not games. They absolutely should get cover after identifying a possible active shooter, discreetly call it in and wait for backup to surround him and the heli to help identify who’s in there before alerting the suspect. The question is why did they jump the gun, circumstances/training/or on accident. The other important reason is because look what happened. A guy who killed someone was able to move into a public area and put more people in danger. So yes they need to surround the suspect.
Born nd Bred in California here. I left in 2011 and never looked back. Hey guys, were this shooting happened! A block away from it, is where the north Hollywood Bank of American shooting happened over 30 yrs ago. The only people that were killed were the robbers. NHPD did a great job in that shooting. Now the video we’re watching the initial shooting just left on the left shoulder of the police officer was where the police officer shot and killed a man attacking a woman with with a knife, and while the officer was shooting at the attacker, one of the bullets went into a dressing room and killed an innocent bystander, a young lady. This is my neighborhood and gun violence always been around us. I am a 52 year old man and I’m used to it.
Oh man... was anyone else panicking when the cops were peaking into the back of the trailer that one of them was going to cop a shot to the face? And not one of the good kind.
09:48 ... If that's a "Davis .32", I had one of those when I turned 21 and only had $64 to buy a handgun. I was 21 and wanted to buy my first handgun, but working part-time and going to college on my own dime, that didn't leave me with much to work with. Quite surprisingly it worked AWESOME for a .32 acp. It was late classified as a "Saturday Night Special" and actually increased in value due to them not being manufactured any longer. With its six round-capacity magazine, I had to carry plenty of extra mags, but at gun shows those were only a few bucks each. I know they made a few in .380 acp, but the one in that caliber soon failed as the pressure generated by the larger cartridge was too much for the ZINC cast frame and receiver to handle and it cracked in half. That .32? It lasted until I needed new internal springs and nobody had extra parts for them. I made new springs from guitar wire (spring steel) and kept the Davis running for another five years. I eventually traded that and a flak jacket I got from a surplus store for a Mossberg 500. Yeah, the guy needed to get rid of the shotgun "real fast" for some reason and wanted a handgun instead. I miss owning that Davis. It was such a simple piece of garage engineering and art class metal casting that if you knew what you were doing you could keep that pistol running properly forever.
Me too. Especially after the Michigan State Trooper being suspended for 30 days for stopping a drunk driver speeding down a freeway going the wrong way. He performed a PIT maneuver to get her stop when there was a large break in traffic. She was headed into oncoming traffic and he had to stop her. But, of course, he got in trouble. Disgusting.
Well they also had high power flashlights shining in and around the trailer so being sneaky was already out the window. He could see the flashlights before he could hear the radios.
@@JohnnyShagbotI'm assuming you're talking about that female cop that reached into a suspect's vehicle with her gun hand. The suspect grabbed a hold of her arm and held her in place while also pulling out a gun on her. Shes unable to draw her own gun. So she starts to scream and cry, begging him not to kill her. All of a sudden the backup male deputy runs up. Sees what's happening. Immediately draws his gun and fires a shot through the windshield and straight into the suspects head.
Oh my goodness, they peeked at the edge of that trailer for way too f'ing long. The dude already shot at cops... maybe back off if you have a hunch he's there????
The police seemed to pretty much have just pistols. I live in a high income beach community in California where the residents demand air tight security from the city.

Slowed down I never seen the mag drop. I think he cleared a malfunction.
Good catch! You are right, but he's still fast!
It was a malfunction, not a reload. He tapped the magazine to make sure it was seated, racked the slide, then continued to fire
Excellent training. That was pretty work to recognize the malfunction and clear it that quickly.
That was some smooth action, BZ to that cop.

They didn't know it was him for sure. And even if they did, their job is to confront criminals, not play little games.
@@mediocreman2 Exactly as the guy above me said. It's not games it's making sure you can stop the target without getting hurt yourself.

Ohhhh yeah I remember that one. One in a billion stray hit a completely unaware and uninvolved in a dressing room. Wild. Real final destination sht.

The footage of that shootout is still insane.

I thought he reloaded at first too, but it was still quite clean reset
"Tap, rack, bang..."
Even then that was cool
Good day!!!! DONUT HAS BLESSED US WITH A VIDEO!!!
Can you imagine trying to slip around trying to find a guy that’s armed and ready and you have radios blasting, giving away your location
Shut up nerd
i looked it up, it's most likely a .380 version

That female officer had incredible situational awareness and communication. A model for others!
Certainly a model for officer "please don't kill me" who I hope to god found a different career path.

The police seemed to pretty much have just pistols. I live in a high income beach community in California where the residents demand air tight security from the city. Every patrol vehicle has an AR onboard including the motorcycles that have a security rack welded to the frame holding an M4 carbine.
Most of us could not hit a running man at 50 yards with a handgun. The cops are spraying the neighborhood. Rifles really work.
I spent 31 years working in a beach community in Ca….
