Deputy Corbin Smith is my son. Just wanted to say that both officers are at home recovering with their families. The two deputies both have wives and baby daughters at home. Getting the phone that my son had been shot was the worst phone call of my life and not knowing for about 15-20 minutes if he was alive was excruciating. I will add that there are more than a couple deputies on duty at one given. There are actually quite a lot. What made the extraction difficult and the reason neither of these deputies returned fire was because this was a very small neighborhood with houses right next to each other and there was an elderly woman in the home. The deputies unfortunately never had eyes on the perp because he was moving from window to window and had a rifle and pistol at every window. These young men stayed calm, applied their own tourniquets and made it home alive!!
Welcome to small town law enforcement. I know that area quite well and can tell you 15 minutes is not ridiculously long at all. It's not exactly the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from there.
I was taking a walk through my neighborhood today - just walking past the pond - when I heard a duck quacking. Instinctively, I hit the ground. Thanks, Donut Operator!
In 1990 I called in a shots fired with two individuals down on the second floor of a ghetto boarding. I guess I sounded pretty calm (it was a very violent area and one becomes accustomed to it) because the dispatcher didn't believe me. Has to ask twice.
I genuinely think thats because he didnt apply it all the way + there was still stuff in that pocket. It also didnt look like that wound was bleeding nearly enough to require one. Im gonna go out on a limb here and say that he applied it somewhat so that he could quickly tighten it properly if the wound started leaking badly
They’re making the best of it using the engine block and transmission to cover. The rounds that hit were probably ricochets off the driveway under the car
Thank you for explaining that! I was seriously confused how they were getting hit behind the vehicle. I know it's not bulletproof but hitting the legs is what confused me. I was thinking if it went through the whole vehicle then they would've been hit in the trunk of their body. The ricochet makes a lot more sense!
If the officers were going to hit him he would probably have been in worse shape i mean he only shot two officers in the leg and filled an innocent person home full of holes

I hate "The Cops" as an institution and a culture as we have it in our society, but I have known many great cops. Sheriffs, Sheriffs deputies, National Park LEO, and even some city cops that are just out there helping folks that need help, and looking the other way on things that don't need enforcing. Just obvious humility, service, and no desire to control or force their will on others. However, "The Cops' as an institution are largely just thugs for corporations, that is in exchange, allowed to be an organized gang that coerces money out of citizens. The ethos of service and protection that good cops embody is very much at best, a tertiary priority for the institution as a whole.
I love how calm the officer with the rifle is when he gets hit, just ducks back and asks for a tourniquet, then starts applying it himself. Doesn't even look like he is in pain, he just looks like he is filing paperwork

The backup took forever because they were closing roads surrounding the area, causing major traffic. I work literally 2 minutes down the street from here, passed multiple marked and unmarked cars on my way home.
I was about 200 feet away when the first shots went off. Then I went down to the gas station right down by the park and sat for about an hour before I could get out. Watched both lifestar helicopters land at the school. Crazy day
That was a calmer reaction than I have when my printer refuses to print a text document because I'm out of yellow. Took me until the blur to realize he was actually bleeding.
And either ex-military or old enough to have done conscription because he was *not* dropping that rifle even though he was out of the fight. Helmet, vest, weapon.

@@Eternal-Security You are right. Especially in this video, it can get really annoying because it happens so much. Either way, any type of sound effect to sensor would be annoying. Thanks UA-cam 👍
@@Rogue_Centurion that’s absolutely incorrect. A little blood goes a very long way, visually speaking. There is no scenario where one drop should be cause for alarm. No wound worth worrying about starts with a single drop.

I don't understand how some people have ZERO respect or thought towards the health of Officers. I just turned 18 and have gotten in some deep water driving but I have been nothing but respectful to every person involved in my "incident" with law enforcement. Seeing videos like this with the body cam footage and audio explained by someone who has lived through the bs policing work and has a damn good background of knowledge on the subject really puts in perspective that there are quite a few great, fearless, morally straight cops that really do there job in protecting the public; not just handing out traffic infractions and stationing units ALL over the roads like I've experienced here in Orlando. Thanks Donut!
If you ever wanna get in touch with the cops on this video lmk!!I'm from the location in this video( within 15 miles of both shootings)Our force isn't exactly small but we do have a lot of acreage on hilled curvy mountains so it may take a little bit to get rescue sometimes. I'm going to totally chastise that Original Officer for his Choice of where and how he positioned his patrol car !! Mostly because I can (30+ year LE Career and I've been in a couple of firefights) FYI, bullets, when they hit concrete or asphalt at an angle: Flatten out and travel a few inches above the ground. The positioning of the patrol car eliminated the use of Wheel Wells as a way to protect their feet. So when you're kneeled down, you are still exposed. It's also another problem with Small Departments. They get fundamentally the same Basic/Academy training. But after that, it's 'small town thinking' and alot LESS training. Also, that Corporal (the left handed guy). Muzzling ALL his other Officers with finger INSIDE the trigger guard !! All in all, I am Extremely Pleased that the Officers are OK and recovering. Prayers they're never in another shoot-out. But if so, some Lessons Learned from this one !

Donut, it is pronounced BLUNT County Tennessee! Glad to see you cover it, and your praise for the officers involved. I was an officer in this county from 1976 till 2012! This are good men!
"We received resistance from the suspect as we escorted him to the ground in order to handcuff him. Officers used appropriate pain compliance based on the force continuum to encourage the suspect to stop resisting"

Just wanted to let you know Donut that I’m in the police academy and we watched one of your videos in class the other day. It was the one with the bad asses that shot the guy through the computer monitor. I’ve been a long time viewer and it was cool to see your video in class!
I’m from Blount county Tennessee. Born and raised here, never in my 22 years of living here we have been through this much of a tragedy to the police department. The Sheriff’s office lost a deputy back in February and now just had another shooting. Blount county is a quiet and peaceful place with little to no major crime.
@@negativeionz no officers were killed in this shooting, thankfully, there’s a video Donut Operator covered a little while ago of another shooting in this same county and same police department where a deputy was killed.
I live in Jefferson County, TN, but was in Blount county when this happened, meeting my mother-in-law for dinner. She said FIFTEEN law enforcement vehicles passed her on the way to dinner. Five more passed us when we got out in the parking lot. Insane. We knew something big was happening.
I was about 200 feet away when the shooting started. I saw well over 50 police vehicles. Sniper dudes in ghillie suits, police helicopter above, and the mobile operations unit was there for 2 days. Wild drive to work that day

There hasn't been a nice mustang since the 70s. I own the electric Mach E, which is a really nice car, but mustang lovers disown it. They won't allow it in their small pp club because of the cross-over body.
I was thinking the exact same thing. No reaction, they just applied the tourniquet like they were drinking their morning coffee. Not even a single expletive.

@@bigcconservativeguy2534 how can anyone be this miserable and unsympathetic? Brother, they felt the need to use tourniquets, it definitely wasn't as simple as a graze. The perp is firing from multiple angles, the officers have no clear visual. They held their ground and awaited extraction. Did you expect them to expose themselves and rush into the house to take down the suspect as if it was some call of duty mission that allowed them to tank multiple bullet hits? And to add to the "graze" claim, you can quite clearly see a wound on the officers leg as he's applying the tourniquet. It is not a graze.
"Keep your head down. You still with me?" Bro has absolutely been in a firefight and lost boys before. Having it happen again stateside has got to fucking suck.
At about the 6 minute mark, I was thinking this LEO community sucks. These dudes are taking fire and there ain't nobody moving in to help. Thank you for the explanation.
I use to work in a county where the sheriff office who handled all patrol for county as no city departments in the entire county. Certain days of the weeks during the night they only had 1 or two officers on duty for the entire county.
They suck because they do whatever they're told by a government who hates you. These are NOT American patriots. These are Sleepy Joes errand boys. Who do you think they'll send to "Come And Take It"? Hint: it sure isnt gonna be AOC in a tight top.
I work for a small town where we often only have 1 officer on duty at a time. Backup is 10-15 minutes away at best. I've had to show up to more domestics and everything else by myself than I can count. It's not a good feeling.
Those are some badass dudes right there. "Hey man, no biggie or anything but do you have another tourniquet? I got shot too." "Oh yeah man no prob here ya go" "Thanks"
You know that black eye on the suspect was definitely because the officers "had to use pacifying strikes in order to subdue the suspect" and I think those pacifying strikes should've been harder.
I cannot even begin to get my head around that WILD choice of a parking spot. Directly in front, no nearby cover. Really painted themselves into a corner, lucky it went as well as it did.
They probably didn't think that the guy was going to open the garage door and just start opening fire. Hopefully they will be more mentally prepared for that situation in the future after experiencing this one. It seemed more like a warzone.
I work with BCSO quite a bit in the county side of my job, can’t ask for a better group. They don’t play around. I know both of these guys, they are solid. Bad situation all around but I’m glad they made it!
Tough situation. I was trained if you aren't shooting you're moving, if you aren't moving you're reloading, if you aren't doing anything you're dead. I am glad they got out with minor injuries and will be okay, but I didn't see any return fire or attempt to better their situation. They are lucky he stopped shooting or wasn't really aiming.
Exactly what I was thinking. I was cringing watching them just sit idle while this guy was throwing lead at them. At least pepper the location he is at with suppressing fire. They are REALLY lucky he didn't maneuver to a different position to engage them.

There was a legendary K9 Officer Foster in a suburb of Phoenix. One overnight ride along changed my whole life. In 1997ish he told me that every 60 seconds a cop in the US hits the pavement while on duty, either injured in a car accident, fighting a suspect or even dying. I was a kid but I learned quick never to tell anything about that night because nobody has ever believed any part of the story. One kid's compulsive lie of adventures are some cops' regular Friday nights.
Holy shit this shootout was like a Tarkov gunfight with the amount of tourniquets that went on. Not even once did those dudes yell, get frustrated, or freak out. Champs.
@@rickyism1576 No point in shooting back really in that scenario. He has a pinpoint target and your shooting into the broad side of a house. It was unfortunately bad planning to move the cruiser there, but they still did well.
@@rickyism1576he has that rifle and two magazines in it. They each have a pistol and probably three magazines, maybe four. Why the hell would he waste his ammo firing blindly at a house hoping to hit the suspect? He used most of his first magazine firing and then decided to wait so they aren't totally helpless. Pistols are a joke against a rifle. He kept watching looking for a target and never got one. If "they just froze up" they wouldn't belooking for a target and applying their own tourniquets and communicating. When you freeze up you freeze up. You're going to complain that they didn't wildly spray of all their ammo and do a frontal assault on the house like in the video games, so they must have "frozen up"?
@justforever96 Suppressing fire while you find somewhere safer to go. Look at Afghanistan footage, 99% of the shots didn’t hit anyone, but it still scared the piss outta the enemy for long enough for them to find better cover.
Blount is pronounced "Blunt". This happened near me on my way home from work. I got passed by what seemed to be every cop from Blount and Knox counties responding to this. I got home and immediately started looking for what happened because I knew it must have been big.
Sherriff Berrong loves training. They have everything they need Blount County is very funded but parts are very rural. The county it huge, so it takes time to get everywhere.
They did fine as far as I saw. And not every small town in the US is going to have officers that you will mistake for LAPD SWAT veterans, that's not a realistic expectation. They have been trained, they acted on that training and dealt with the situation.
Deputies stayed calm, and I respect how they were willing to hold their fire to not endanger others. You can also tell when the adrenaline started to wear off by the tone of their voices. Brutal.
If they had not made a series of mistakes they wouldn't have been in that situation. The cops in the US really need to start to recieve proper training for a realistic period of time. It's got to be beyond a joke now.
@@TurkishToprak Can't speak to him but I can speak for myself and having been in that situatio on more than 1 occasion I can speak credibly to the fact that these dolts literally had 0 idea what to do. They didn't act with restraint, they didn't act at all, big difference!

Mostly because I can (30+ year LE Career and I've been in a couple of firefights)

The positioning of the patrol car eliminated the use of Wheel Wells as a way to protect their feet. So when you're kneeled down, you are still exposed.

Absolutely love the new sounds during the "discussion phase" across the street, great work!
3:40 He probably got hit with a ricochet, it looks like the bullet hit under his car and then bounced up and hit him. You can make out a small puff of smoke under the car right before he recoils back.
Yes this is why you're generally trained not to prone out because you'll likely get a heady from skipping rounds. I remember cops were able to defeat some heavily armored bank robbers via skipping rounds as well.
When they were crouched down behind the SUV all I could think about was "Your legs are not protected! "
That rooster is pissed bro
Applying your own tourniquet probably feels demoralizing but def peak badass.
Applying your own tourniquet would be incredibly difficult and painful. So probably a big adrenaline boost
@@kibbs325 Yah there’s a vid of a Ukrainian soldier doing his own tourney with the bottom half of his leg no longer really there. Without adrenaline that shit wouldn’t be possible.
Demoralizing? The act of saving yourself is demoralizing? Are you depressed lol
Thank God the officers are alright. Hope for a speedy recovery. God bless all first responders.
All cops are like “call an ambulance but not for me”
The one guy at the end handling that rifle by the fore grip just swinging at his own head.....shheeesh
The 2 original officers who showed up are complete badasses! They both got shot in the leg and continued to stay in the fight! 👏 these men are the principal of what it means to be the front line of peace in our community
They were morons.
Donut I doubt you'll ever get to see this especially since this is a old video but I took a break from watching your content cause my navy veteran roommate best friend and was like a dad to me we loved your channel and I showed him your content way back about 7 years ago and he recently passed away from a massive stroke I walked in to bring him coffee thay morning and he barley could even roll to look at me and I called paramedics and he didn't make it sadly. And so now I am just now getting back into your content after about 2 months. You have always uplifted my friend and I and i wasn't feeling it then but now it's helping me with coping so thank you very much! And again doubt your ever even gonna get to see this. But thank you!
The mental fortitude those officers had behind the patrol vehicle while on the receiving end of gun fire along with both being shot was outstanding. They did what they needed, kept themselves as calm and collective as they could all while maintaining their firing position until the Calvary arrived.
What remarkable level of absolute pussy do you people have to be to admire the "bravery" or "restraint" of these so-called officers. Just because you people literally piss yourselves at the thought of a paper cut doesn't mean that some idiot who stands around getting shot at because he is clueless is someone to be admired for his bravery. Sheesh, what a world of Nancy boys we live in now!
I love how he has a huge black eye in the mugshot 😂 you know exactly how that happened lol.
Yeah, he fell up the stairs... twice.
"Alright dammit,i saw that suspects face..
Can someone please explain why he only has one black eye and yall have two fists?"
Right lol
I want to know why the fucker is still above ground.
Precisely why pigs think they can get away with excessive force is the thought of u being on the jury. As someone who has been in LE in the military for over 10 years, u are pathetic
The double punch kick takes years to master.
Because someone was probably standing there recording and saying stuff like police brutality or something so they had to take it easy on the guy.
