Chevrolet Sonic 1.8L Radiator Cooling Fan Removal & Replacement (2012-2017)

- This install works for 2012 through 2017 Chevy Sonic sedan and hatchback models, 1.8L non-turbo. The turbo model 1.4L are slightly different with 3 bolt holes (the third is on the driver's side). Easy quick fix, 15-20 minutes with nothing more than an 8mm and 10mm socket for the Reservoir and the two bolts on the fan plus a flathead screwdriver to remove the lower hose guide.

Engineers never cease to amaze me with the stupid ideas they come up with. Why not just use 4 bolts to attach the fan housing instead of sliding this around in a tight space while lines are running over it.
Literally one of the main reasons I stopped being a technician.

defi netly not 15 minutes but an hour and 20 minutes is not bad those clips and the one electrical wire spot where the two wires meet was very stuck so i had to just use lots of force and ende up getting it, the one clip on the passenger side for the metal hose is super frustrating and in the way

Do you happen to know what the electric line is called? Just pulled mine out and it's melted..
That would likely mean you have an electrical issue, possibly a ground or exposed, pinched wire, shorting something out. It could be the fan that started it but I’d trace the wiring as well.
@@FinallyHeSleeps after some research, I found that the ends can just short out sometimes and how to check the wires and replace the ends. I've ordered a new fan and end and will be replacing both, thanks.

Dose it a long time for your coolant fins to come on ????
even if its plugged in and the AC is on it will take a few seconds for it to kick on or at least thats what i noticed after swapping mine
