@naturesoundsrecord please note that both the Zoom XYH-5 mic pair (which is on your H5) and the LOM Uši Pros are omnidirectional mics. undoubtedly, the microphone capsules in each are different (the Uši are definitely more sensitive). but the reason that it seems like the Zoom H5 mics sound like they "only pick up sound from the front" is because of the different stereo configurations you have the microphones in. the Zoom mics are fixed in an "X/Y" configuration, which emphasizes sounds coming from the front. the Uši are in what's known as a "spaced A-B" configuration, which is responsible for the much wider stereo image.

The microphones on the Zoom H5 are unidirectional, meaning they primarily capture sound coming from the front. This is different from omnidirectional microphones, which pick up sound from all directions.

Nice comparison! Both microphones and recordings have their own character. The original mics of the H5 sound a bit more compact in the stereo image. The Lom USI pro sounds deeper and wider in the stereo image due to its omni characteristic. But that's just my personal taste. Great work. Thanks for sharing

In the same way, I like more how Lom Usi Pro sounds in this situation. Thank you very much!

The Lom sound more balanced and realistic i'd say. The h5 high end is over hyped.

Zoom H5 sounds better, softer, gentler.

Thank you for your comment. I think that the beauty of the sound is in the ear of the listener who decides which is better. Over time I realized that recording the sound of a river is better with the microphones from the H5 than with the Usi Lom Pro because it adds a lot of white noise but in this case I like the Lom microphones but surely if they were positioned in another place change the recorded sound.
