I'm so tired just watching what you have accomplished and yet I know you are no where near finished with what your farmer mind.is envisioning! Keep dreaming and keep inspiring us wannabe farmers. We need your rays of sunshine and hope!
Dearest Ruth, I am a new sub that has been binge watching all of your videos for the last couple of weeks. I live fairly close in central VA. You are a sweet kindred spirit. I pray you are healthy and have found some peace after your devastating losses. Hoping you find your way back to YT. Your knowledge and passion is so valuable. My momma heart is sending you a virtual hug praying you are still finding daily joy in your beautiful gardens. ~Mrs. C 💛
Love it, terracing is no small job! I took on the task of terracing the small steep hill out the back door so the dogs would have a place to go, I planted some bushes, lavender and azaleas for color and some things to cascade down the rocks to soften the look. I was only going to do a small section and after that was done, realized I needed to go all the way around. Ended up finding a bench to put up there...it is such a nice space now. My raised beds for food (kale and onions and peas) are cardboard boxes for now since I was not sure if it would work...but it did!
Wow! Thank you for sharing this. I use to put the hardware cloth down to keep moles from eating the roots. You did a wonderful job...how beautiful! Blessings to you, your family and your garden and food forest! 💕🤗🥰🙏🌱🌻🌺🥕🥒🍅🍓❤️❤️
so, you totally brought this on yourself!! I HAVE to do this, I'm sorry. Well, I'm not. 🙃When somebody says "I don't know what his name is, yet" - my brain stops doing everything else right immediately and WILL find one. And this time it was also so easy, it' rediculous!! Because you also said "his (or this?) cuteness"! So he shall be named Eliot Ness. Cute Eliot Ness. Obviously. Eliot for short. Great name for a friendly guard dog. Perfect! So that done, I can now watch the rest of the video!
Hi Ruth!! Hope you see this! You have been on my Heart! Hope all is well. We sure miss you! Hope you will be able to be with us again soon....please!! Sending you much Love and Hugs!! ❤🙏🤗🥰💕🪴🌹🌻

I keep checking your channel to see if you've uploaded anything. Your gardens are amazing, and very inspiring. I hope everything is ok and you are doing well.
Time for a loooong break in constructing garden beds. Really good looking result! Would like try to use our method. Greetings from Denmark and thank you 🙏🏻
You are doing a great job, I wish you would have filmed all of your work step by step, for all of us who want to copy your what you did, it looks so good, for many years I have wanted to live in the mountains, and I would do exactly what you have done looks good you did a great job, get some rest, I am glad I found your channel I like permaculture too ,I like your excitement when you tell your story keep it up want to see more
I love that you showed how hard it was and all the adjustments had to be made during the project. that's how it always happens for me and I feel like I'm not supposed to be doing it if it's that hard.
I'm impressed by your drive! It's awesome seeing someone's dream come to fruition and it's a shame that voles brought you to this point but you have a lot of beautiful beds in your garden now to show for it. I live in flat Delaware and I too have a vole issue so your learning experiences will help me save a lot of time and effort in putting in my new garden. Thanks for posting your video!
I've been looking for a new video, have not seen one I pray everything is okay with you and your family I keep watching your last video great job, I have a Jeremy too ,My son has been a blessing we just buried my mother August 10,he has been there for my brother and me .I know the loss ,she is 87 ,she is waiting for us with the Lord. I am so sorry for your loss! Things are much better and I’ve started posting again! I think you’ll really appreciate this one: ua-cam.com/video/COGHOCrA5HE/v-deo.htmlsi=PcoiaYCJv_K36yQV
I still check out what other gardeners are doing to keep those cute little critters out of the garden. I came up with the same solution last year for my beds! It works great! Congrats on your success story!
Hi Ruth, I'm new to your channel. Nice job on the beds and the terrace - that level of work is not for the faint of heart! We grow hops here in our garden, too. This was our first year for any sizable harvest and I ran into the very thing you did this year when harvesting - ouchie! I definitely go through periods of exhaustion too and my garden is not even close to the size of yours! Thanks for sharing your garden! Angela
Voles are such a pain in the butt. We did the mesh under our raised beds, but we are trying to make our entire yard a food forest. We can't possibly tear up the whole yard. We are going through bulk packaging of Juicy Fruit at the moment, but not sure it is really helping as we have quite the infestation. Next step is Milky Spore to tackle the grubs. This feels like a battle that is going to go on for years into the future.
Wow. So much work. But it will be totally worth it, I'm sure. And it looks amazing. leave the rest of the vegetable garden for next year. Gardening the veggie garden and the food forest is enough work already and I think your body is trying to tell you, to take a break from the heavy lifting, literally.
Well done !!! I've also got a serious vole problem and am planning to try raised beds. Thanks for the inspiration 😊 Have you ever tried metal fencing to protect the roots of fruit trees ? I've lost 3 young apple trees to voles so thought fencing could work. Just not sure of the dimensions so as not to inhibit the root development. Any tips ? 😋
Did it work? I have a huge vole problem and have decided to do the same, all raised beds. 14 are complete and have 6 more to build. I had planned to keep two open plots in my walled 60x44 garden but the vole activity is so high I just don't see how any of it would survive
Such a telative word... change.... Thank You! Get some owls. Gurdle a couple tall trees on the decline and put some owl boxs out. what is you ipm loss tolerance? Dont feel bad about a tender heart. It is the best defence against nuking your ecology.
What kind of wire mesh did you use? I am looking for some right now, and have not been able to find a longer roll than 10'. But, also did you get 1/4" mesh? Some people have said that the wire needs to be 19 gauge but some say that 23 gauge which is thinner wire is sufficient. I am in Washington, but cannot figure out where to purchase this material. Thank you. I love your videos! @faehollowhomestead19

Thank you for this so much! Your comment actually helped me start uploading again! I think you’ll appreciate the 2023 update I just posted 😉
Glad to see you getting your garden back on track and see you and your husband working together. Amazing job.
so much hard work that will pay off for years to come, well done honey
I’m hoping I don’t have to do this again any time soon! Thank you!
The hill side beds and stairs look awesome

I’ve been following you for about a year now and I just love all of your gardening videos! Everything is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. 🧚🏼🌱💜

God bless it looks wonderful.

I can’t let myself think beyond the next step or I get overwhelmed and stop.
It looks amazing! Good job! I have yet to fill two small beds laid out this summer. Maybe I'll feel motivated to cross them off of my to-do list.
Thank you! I hope it inspires you too! It sure is hard to get started though sometimes, isn’t it?

Thank you! I hope you kept yours under better control than I did! I had to rip it all out this year 😢
Just subscribed and rang the notification bell. Looking forward to the content.

Good job 😊 your a hard working gal😊
Thank you!

The origin of my vole problem was exactly the same! I saw a vole in the garden and it was so cute....you know the rest😂😩
Aaah!!! 😭😭 a tender heart can really get in the way sometimes! 😢
So amazing to see! We are considering moving to a colder climate, so your food forest comes back even after the frost?
It does!!

I have not done this but I hope if you try it helps!!
great video, I have raised beds that are full of crickets, any advice?
I would let the chickens have at em for a day or two as long as you’re ok with replanting after.
So, did it work? Were the sides high enough?
They were!!
Did it work? I have a huge vole problem and have decided to do the same, all raised beds. 14 are complete and have 6 more to build. I had planned to keep two open plots in my walled 60x44 garden but the vole activity is so high I just don't see how any of it would survive
It worked!!
I’ve watched the voles climb right up the side of my 2’ raised beds … so frustrating
I would cry. So. Hard.
Such a telative word... change.... Thank You! Get some owls. Gurdle a couple tall trees on the decline and put some owl boxs out.
what is you ipm loss tolerance? Dont feel bad about a tender heart. It is the best defence against nuking your ecology.
and make that screened bed extra deep if you want root crops.

I got the 1/4 inch and I was able to fine looong rolls on Amazon. They have worked great!
@@faehollowhomestead19 thank you
either this killed her passion for gardening or the voles took revenge and ate her lol
You made me cackle at this comment!!! lol!
@@faehollowhomestead19 finally got rid of my owl voles with this same method. No vole damage this year so far!
They ate all my potatoes last year.
Makes me so mad!
