Those who never skied on old school skies may never realize how much easier shaped and fat skiers have made the sport. I can remember skiing JH on 200 with maybe 70 something waist in 32 inches of fresh pow. Now pretty much anyone can rip deep snow and make perfect turns. This is good for me as I am much older and the body has taken a beating. These guys were very good at what they did.
Depends on when you learned. I ripped bumps in a 203 GS ski in the early to mid 90’s. I’m an East coast guy…out west they asked why I used my edges in the bumps and didn’t skid. I miss those old Salomon skis and bindings.
this is great. even though they're dropping with 70 waist 190 boards, they're still hitting stuff i couldn't dream of hitting. it's great because this video was shot quite a few years ago but is still pretty awesome
My fave skier is / was Schmidt. Plake brought so much character to our sport though - he's a sniper, bad boy-derelict and best smart-ass on two skis. ;)
My favorite tape I had back before I was paralyzed after a back surgery for a couple herniated disc’s in my back I want the blizzard of ahhs. Any on DVD and other good ones
I skied with GP in 86 at Kirkwood . Well he insisted I ski with his crew when they pulled in next to me as i was lacing up my leather telemark boots. I spent more time apris at the bar than actually keeping up with them
+Håkon Aadu (Pilern) when i was a kid. back in the 80s.....if you were pf average height you were skiing 203 slalom ; 207 GS boards; 215 SG..and 223-27 downhill....didn't tchange until the advent of the parabolic ski in the late 90s early 21st century.......then everthing got about 15cm shorter
glen plake....what a knob ....lol.........the guy is just an average skier at best ...the mohawk was his greatest stunt...if he didn't hitch himself to Scott Schmidt's wagon he would probably be tending bar somewhere in squaw valley

Im 15 and I learned how to ski pow in skis similar.
