I love Andechs. We traveled there in 1992 and met a couple of people. It was a super cold day in early September and not many were there. Fast forward 31 years and we are still good friends. We live in Canada and they live near Frankfurt. We will be meeting up again May
Awww so cute! What a special memory.
Thanks for uploading a summer fun video. It helps to lighten the mood especially it has been cold and gray in Bavaria since weeks now.
Thanks so much! Yes, winter after Christmas in Bavaria is so depressing lol
@@NearFromHome Unless you cross country ski (provided there is enough snow) ... or until Fasching :)

Another excellent video 😊 and it’s nice to be reminded how beautiful the Ammersee is in summer… however also fantastic this time of year, covered with a blanket of snow! ❄️😊
Thanks so much! I imagine it is pretty all year. :)
Sorry we’re a bit behind, we’re catching up!! Loving this, 30 seconds in and we need to go to this place already!!!! Your trains are so good compared to ours! We would definitely do the walk rather than catch the bus. That cafe looks great, but agree that you need room for the beer 🍻 great to see your sponsored ad on the video!! That walk looks stunning, but bring on the beer!! Crazy tree. Wow, ok, what a stunning building, plus it’s a brewery. Loving the music, sausages, pretzels….and the beer….not sure about the fish though. 2 handed beers, that’s where it’s at. I’m sure it tastes as good as it looks. Yep, we’d walk down to the lake too, walk off the beer and food. Right, we have just decided we are going to visit here, so thank you for introducing it to us. Loved the sunset and waters edge shot. We loved that video both x 🍻
I was thinking of you guys when doing this day trip, it feels right up your alley!
@@NearFromHome we are so doing this one!! Right now to watch you guys in Italy!!!
@@PostcardAndAPint Let us know when! :D
@@NearFromHome oh we will!!!! Just watching your Tuscany video now!! 🍻
So beautiful, love Bavaria and Germany so much! Never knew about this place...
Thanks! Hope you can come by and check it out.
I've been waiting for this video! Can't wait to see it with the family. I remember hiking with my Grandma and a family friend from Starnberger see to Andechs in 1982 right before my tenth birthday. Thank you so much for all these videos.
Thanks so much! Hope you enjoy it.
Hiking from Starnbergersee to Andechs sounds like a lot of fun. Didn't know people did that!
@@NearFromHome There are two lovely hikes. One from Pöcking and the other from Tützing. Both go through the fields, forest, and moorland that separates the two lakes. The Tützing walk goes through more forest however, which is the one we took with my Grandmother all those years ago. It's also slightly longer but not onerously so. And, of course, you can access both ends of the hike via S-bahn with a short walk or bus ride to Herrsching.
@@gavinrogers5246 Thanks! That sounds so nice. We will put it on our list for this summer!
I have a half liter bottle of Kloster Andechs Spezial Hell beer sitting in the refrigerator now, and I generally buy 3 bottles each time I visit a local market. The Kloster is definitely on my bucket list for my trip to Germany and Austria this coming August & September!
lol! That is excellent.
Hope you make it out there and have a wonderful time!
@@NearFromHome I am flying into Munich on 29 August. This may very well be my first activity, and then will be doing lotsa local daytrips.
@@rodgerraubach2753 we love to hear it! :D
Fantastic video as always. Thank you for that.
Thank you so much!
Servuß Ben and Camille! Fam of 3 here now (6/9/23 from Pittsburgh) We were just at Andechs on Tuesday!!! No live music but it was GORGEOUS! We’re still here! In Salzburg right now!! YOU HAVE HELP US SOOOO MUCH!!! 🤗❣️ We watch your vids over and over- great info! We went to Tegernsee yesterday and hiked all the way up to the stunning top!!! Phenomenal! Got a delish apfel strudel mit vanillasoßin and ein masse🍻(or two) and headed back down. The path with all the roots was tough but we were extra careful there. Quite covered with slippy-dried leaves now. Coming up was exactly as you both said! Not much talking- out of breath but not out of reach for anyone with ok ability. Just take lots of breaks and look behind you for stunning views all the way up. Going down was harder than we thought- not fab for wonky oknees, but we did it! So worth it!! Thank you soo much for all your fab info and encouragement! 🍻Prost!!
Thanks so much! I am glad you had a nice time. I am always so scared I am going to recommend a hike that is out of reach for viewers, but happy to hear it worked out!
You are right, it is one of the nicest family outings Greater Munich has to offer, especially the Ammersee which I find even more mystical than the Starnberger See. Been to the Ammersee not that long ago, to the Töpfermarkt in Diessen and absolutely loved it. As for the monastery, I think the church is just absolutely stunning, it's a pitty you didn't include it in the vid. As for the beer garden, I think the beer is outstanding but the beer garden itself is a bit of a tourist trap. What do you think?
I agree! Tbh, we left our spicy Andechs beer garden opinions on the cutting room floor in an effort to stay positive because we actually have a lot of friends and acquaintances who love it. I don't get it, but I guess it's popular for a reason. I really like the hike, Herrsching, and swimming in Ammersee.
We have been to Dießen to see the church, but haven't seen the market. It's cute!
Starnberger See will ever be the mystic one or me because of Ludwig II nd his fate. A bavarian legend
Next you should do a video about a steam ship tour around Lake Ammersee. The Kloster is great. And especially in summer it’s a great hunch break for a bicycle tour around the lake.
There's a steamship tour around Ammersee????
We will definitely be checking that out. :D
We did this hike today with a couple variations , great recommendation… we loved the Kloster also highly recommend the Apfelweiße beer and Dampfnudel from the cafe! Also don’t forget to check out the church itself while there which is beautiful. Unfortunately we didn’t get to do much at Ammersee due to flooding from the recent weather, but still caught some beautiful sunset!
We went in the church, we just didn't film ti lol. It's beautiful! Glad you had a nice time!
How was the weather and hiking conditions (ice?) Did you have any children with you? I plan on going with my family next winter, and am trying to see if the smalls will be able to handle easy day trips and short hikes.
The market is only once a year and "Töpfer" from all over Europe flock to Diessen to sell their goods, anything from clay-work to pprcelan. It is very crowded but extremely good and well worth a visit.❤
Very cool! What is the market called?
The market is called Diessener Töpfermarkt, but I think it only takes place once a yesr. It's right down at the lake-shore, so it quite scenic. And you can get anything clay-work related from a simple cup to a piece of art-work. We absolutely loved it.
@@volkerbauer1974 You know, the same day I read your comment about the Töpfmarket, I got a FB event ad for it! lol We will try to check it out, but we might be traveling. I love stuff like that
If you like markets like that, then have you heard of Schloss Höhenried near the Puchheim Museum in Bernried. Rhey are always doing something or other, like Art exibitions, Art markets, Christmas markets etc.
So if you are traveling, I wish you two a good journey and I am looking forward to your vid ❤
Super nice place. Thanks for sharing👍I’ve been there many years ago.
Thanks! It really is cool. :D
Kloster Ettal is good also. A secular brewery in Aying is world class. Put your hand in the handle, don't grab it.
Thanks! We have been, and love it! Check out our Linderhof Palace video :)
Hi! Netherlands here. For us the fish doesnt look gross at all. Pretty good actually. Over here we eat lots of smoked fish like mackerel and the king of smoked fish due to its high fat content: Smoked eel ("Gerookte Paling" in Dutch). When you ever have the chance try it. It literally melts in your mouth. Very, very expensive though because there is a limit on how much they can catch to protect the population size of the fish. It can get up to 10 euro per 100 grams so we dont eat it that often anymore but the taste and texture is unmatched. Andechs is great by the way, was there last month and loved the dark doppelbock beer in 1 liter glasses :D
Agreed.. I went to Andechs with my late brother,Tim, back in 1994...great beer and food...aldo the burial place of Carl Orff, composer of Carmina Burana..
really? I didn't know that!
This looks great..!! Thinking of visiting in 2024
Thanks for watching! Hope you can make it out here!
This place reminds me the agustiner brau in Salzburg
Next time when I will visit Munich definitely will try this beer garden
yes! Hope you check it out and enjoy it. :)
Was at Andechs last December. We were staying in Augsburg, a short drive. Great beer and yes better beer stores near me in the US carry the Helles and dark, maybe a few others. All great, I prefer the dark
Glad you liked it!
Great as always 🍺🇩🇪
Thank you! :D
And i like the Andechs in Bavaria. In next Time arrived to Berchtesgaden Towm and Königssee. My Parents was here and they Eat Stecklefish on The Königssee
:D So nice!
Nice video 😉
Thanks!! :)

German trains... On time? Shocked.
It's annoying sometimes, but I'll take it over the US‘s no trains any day!
Hope you have a nice time!
9:55 I'm sure there are videos on how to fillet whole fish before eating them. Is not easy to describe, but not too hard to do at all. As a waiter I have filleted thousands.
I will have to check it out, as I keep ordering this dish lol. The Germans are so good at it too
@@NearFromHome I´m living on the biggest Lake in Germany 🤣
@@arnodobler1096 Ah so du bist ein Fisch Experte :)
..I.spent the better part of three years with the US army in Germany from 1971 to 1974...my area, Frsnconia...which is northern Bavaria...has probably the highest ratio of breweries population...just about evry town has its own brewery
You are going to love our video coming out this Sunday then :) as we begin our 2 part series deep diving Bamberg!
Interesting, this is one where I would have to disagree with you. Went there last summer with my family. Between the fact that there were thousands of bees swarming around, barely finding a table that was not in the sweltering sun, and the chaos to get the food I doubt we will be back. There were so many things listed on the menu that simply were not available, and the servers had absolutely no idea where to go find these things. Want a full meal? Be prepared to stand in multiple lines. Unlike a traditional biergarten you pay at each stall so the process takes significantly longer. Perhaps it was due to Covid, but it left a horrible impression on us.
I have to say, the walk from Herrsching along the Ammersee and through the woods was phenomenal. The beer is amazing as well. Unfortunately all trails brought us up a different route that was tough with a toddler. Maybe we will have to try it again, you made it look great!
Honestly, those points are super valid. While the walk and Ammersee is nice, Andechs isn't my favourite, but SO many people have asked us to cover it. I think we were lucky because we visited at the end of September.
If you want this, but better in everyway, check out our Weltenburg video!
@@NearFromHome As someone who worked in the tourism industry, I avoid all too touristy places and restaurants. It is best to ask a local.
What I liked best in the video was the residential area at the beginning, the houses with the gardens, then the path through the forest. Does the term "Waldbaden forest bathing" mean anything to you?
@NearFromHome your videos are awesome, I've seen them all many times and we have been to quite a few of these places as a result. Keep up the great work!
