Maurice, you knocked this one out of the park. Todd talking about his family was amazing, to be able to tell what his sister went through. I really loved this. God bless him and Catherine. God bless you and your family Maurice too. 💙💕
I can’t wait for part two. This is a fabulous episode. How Todd managed to turn out so “normal” and together with the life he had is remarkable. Nice to see Catherine so happy.
I loved what Todd said about Carrie being one of the first ones to bring mental illness out of the shadows. I feel the same way about rape and sexual assault. We HAVE to open up and take the shame out of it. It's really the only way to heal people. And Catherine's right, not everyone has access to therapy or has insurance. So having podcasts, writing books, speaking with audiences, however you can get it out there is so very important! And having the support of your loved ones also...there is no greater love IMO than holding space for someone suffering, no matter what the trauma is.
I didn't want to type that but this episode was so good. I am just glad they are keeping it real. I have gained so much respect for all of them. I have personally dealt with a family member with a drug problem and it is tough.
What an amazing interview! Bravo Mr. Benard! I love this couple they compliment each other well. When dealing with mental illness there is no one size fits all. You sometimes have to be tough but I agree love, patience, and understanding is key. I am so looking forward to part two. Terrific job! I just hate they go by so quickly. No shame when dealing with mental illness! God bless you and yours always!
Great conversation, a lot of talk show hosts could learn tips from you Maurice. Love hearing Todd talk about his Mom and Sister, he really keeps their legacies alive. Catherine and Todd really complement each other. ❤️👍👍👍
Outstanding interviews Mr. Benard. Love State of Mind. I struggle with severe anxiety and depression. Your show is really helping me out. Thanks for all you are doing for mental health. Your character on General Hospital is amazing. Best acting in Daytime television for sure. Greetings from Fresno, California 💪💪😎😎😁❤️🙏
This was interesting to hear Todd's stories about his sister Carrie Fisher and I hope that in Part 2 of next Sunday's episode with Todd & Catherine that Catherine shares some of her stories about when she played Courtney Marshall on the cancelled soap Texas in the early '80's and when she worked with Kin Shriner who played Jeb Hampton on Texas in those early days of her soap career. Great episode, Maurice.
I remember meeting Catherine at a soap get together at the Biltmore Hotel in Bellaire FL. She was super nice and so down to earth. You could tell how much she enjoyed interacting with the fans.
Totally awesome interview. Love Catherine in "Capitol " as well as "One Life To Live ". Big fan of Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. Again, awesome interview.
Very, very inspiring. I grew up watching Catherine, and of course who isn't familiar with Todd. I too had seen my family members involved with alcohol and drugs. I had drank occasionally when I was younger, never liked how I felt. I never got, on board with drugs. Thank goodness! 🙏❤️

Thanks Maurice for bringing Todd and his beautiful wife Catherine (loved her in the soaps) he had some great perspectives of his family which I can relate to. I’m the calm one while my brothers were addicts so I know it’s hard to understand why when we were raised by the same parents. People did assume I was must have addictions too.

What an amazingly awesome interview. I know I am a little behind watching but it was definitely so worth watching and i thoroughly enjoyed both parts. I so appreciate them sharing. Now I am going to have to go back and watch both one right after the other. Again, i want to thank all three of you and Thank you all so very much for sharing. I hope you all have a safe, Blessed, wonderful weeks/weekend. Stay Healthy and God Bless You All. 💜
Just a wonderful and fascinating interview and insight into their talented family and Carrier herself troubled an dso talented. I have always been a big Debbie fan. And Have been impressed for years byodd so level headed and so smart. Love him and pretty Catherine together. Thank you for tis State of Mind.
Funnily enough, I was thinking recently about how there should be support groups for mental health. It really is a shame that so many of us can't get the help we need, and having a group of people to talk to who are going through the same things you are would make such a difference. As you know, many of us feel alone, but the more we talk about it, the more we realize we're all in this together. Thank you again, Maurice.
Great thoughts and explanation for mental illness. It has been a secret too long! Maurice, I was impressed with this episode. Keep on keeping on! Nice work!!!
This was a fantastic episode!! I can’t wait to see part 2! I met Cat in 20 years ago in Disney World in Florida. I’m friends with her on Facebook. I cried when Carrie Fisher died. I agree it’s okay to agree admit about mental illness. I know how it is about depression. And with my MS my memories aren’t that good too good anymore. I can’t wait to see it part 2 Maurice!!!
What Todd said about tough love resonates with me. I don't think "tough love" is really love at all! Like he says, protect yourself, but kicking your kid out just because they are an addict.....how does that help them? With my kids, I practiced attachment parenting from day one. I never let them "cry it out". That gave them a secure foundation for life. They have always known that both parents were there for them unconditionally, like Todd is describing how Debbie was there for Carrie unconditionally. I cannot wait for Part 2!!
Great show Maurice!! so wonderful to see Catherine and Todd, loved watching Debbie in Unsinkable Molly Brown, it takes me back to my younger years!! I always loved Debbie and Carrie, was a Star Trek freak as well..lol Can't wait for Part 2!! Thanks, Sonny Corinthos..lol

Love listening to your guest Maurice. And of course you. ❤️ Debbie and Carrie were both lovely ladies I do believe Debbie died from a broken heart. And Carrie lived a scared life like I was doing after my husbands death.
What? I am late to this party but I did not know Todd was married to Catherine! I am a huge Debbie and Carrie fan & Todd was the reason I checked this out. BTW, Maurice while I don't really watch soaps anymore I do come back every few years just to see the veterans, especially you. Sonny can be hard to take at times but you give him depth. I commend you for this yt channel as you make mental health issues less scary and you show how none of us are immune to the experience whether directly or indirectly. Keep up the good work.
When you told Catherine. " I dont think we will get to you because this guy is so interesting"... I was thinking the same thing. :) Great interview (just wish we didn't have to wait another week for Part 2) lol

I think the difference between 'tough love' and helping is responsibility. It seems Carrie took ownership of her actions, knowing and owning her condition and responsibility even through struggles. Tough love is often seen or performed as abandoning through need, but it is more successfully done just given them the responsibility for their lives, which is also power. The addicts I've seen die young are the ones who never saw a reason to work towards health because it worked for them and others gave them excuses not to own the responsibility of their lives or see it was that severe of a problem. The "nothing's your fault" attitude equals "It's not in your control". If they don't feel the have the power to be responsible for and in control the choices, how can they have the power to fight the biggest fight of their lives? Part of responsibility and ownership is being in control and having the power in one's life, which we all need to better any life situation.
