What a fantastic interview! I love Dan Aykroyd, he's part of my childhood watching comedy movies. My family wore out the Blues Brothers VHS tape from watching it over and over. Great work Adam! 😄

Who knows? it's possible that off world beings also find this primitive human entertaining as they research what makes him a unique specimen. Seeing Dan, especially as I approach my 60's, is like seeing an honored family friend that has only ever brought joy.

Cannot get enough Dan A., his documentary has gotten me through one horrible moving project (I just kept the audio running and running); has enlightened my friends, and he and his wife just generally make me happy. Thanks, Adam. It's Christmas Eve albeit very a.m. - this presentation found Me (timely fashion), so I have further proof God likes me.
This was a long episode to get trough. 5 minutes in I stopped it because I had to watch the diner scene from The Blues Brothers. Then I watched the music store scene. Then I watched the car chase, but the clip on UA-cam ended too early, but I have the whole movie in my iTunes library, so I went and watched the entire car chase, ending, and credits. Now I'm back. Great episode so far!
We have seen so many great comedians and actors fall by the wayside. Fame kills, warps sense of self, and pulls u under. He saw it all but remained above it. He had a great work ethic and didn’t let fame eat him up. I think he has had a great life and has more to come.
Dan's a Canadian treasure and it was great to have a couple of minutes with him in 2016, to tell him how much I enjoyed The Blues Brothers opening for Steve Martin in 1978 at the Universal Amphitheater. Thanks for a great interview with one of the best!
I am a Ghostbuster fanatic since I was a little boy and some of the interviews with Dan have the tendency to go off the rails a little bit this one was so delightful.
When asked by Adam: He Curiously did not promote "Ghostbusters 2024" or the smaller "Zombie Town" film he just did. Great interview. His 1970's memories were so vivid. As a Chicagoan I'm so glad to have finally met him working on "Crossroads" where he played Britney Spears father. "Blues Brothers" was part of all Chicago household lingo. Such a special movie. Saw it at the theater - age 7. Inspired!!! I blame and thank him for getting in film unions for 20 years.

Totally agree with what Adam is expressing about Blues Brothers. As a child it was fun and I loved the music and comedy. It was something my father and I bonded over. As an adult going back and watching it, I’m amazed that so many incredible musicians and singers are in the movie. It’s amazing and truly something that will go down in history. It’s so special to see most of the very best in one place. It’s truly priceless
Corolla is such a perfect interviewer for Ackroyd as a well informed fan of his work. Ackroyd is an absolute legend. I could listen to him talk all day. Thanks for the awesome content. Much love from Spokane.
I'm glad you have Dan on. The Blues Brothers, Ghostbusters, and, to my mind, Neighbors were three of perhaps four iconic comedies of the period, the fourth being Stripes.
I miss Dan's Blues hour radio show so much. I would gladly pay a subscription fee or buy a box set on a hard drive just to hear the reruns today or even better pay to hear a new show in podcast format sharing tunes. I remember driving an hour by myself on the weekends to my aunt's house and always looking forward to listening in during the drive. It felt like you were hanging out with Dan Ackroyd in his garage over some coffee and cigarettes.
This is one of my favorite actors/comedian/writer and humans. Really has done so much for so many! And still does to this day. Was a surprise to see him on your show(meaning i wasn’t expecting it). 👏👏😎🤘. Best interview ive heard this year! Dan ya changed my life brother!
Dan Aykroyd will forever have my respect for being part in paying homage to the late Harold Ramis in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, What an honorable and kind gesture that was for a loved, departed friend!
Great conversation Adam and Dan. So happy to hear about John Bellushi and Candy...stories of the Blues Brothers, the musicians, Ghostbusters, Bill Murray etc..Thank you all involved with The Adam Carolla Show.
If anybody's interested he narrates a short documentary about the history of The Blues Brothers with lots of interviews from people that are still alive on Audible. This man's memory is pristine
One of the best episodes of Joe Rogan is his interview with Dan Aykroyd. Dan believes it all. And can talk about it! The Blues Brothers is one of the greatest movies ever.
I love Dan Akyroyd's passion on so many subjects, and it always shows in anything he has created or appeared in. I absolutely believe his self-diagnosis on the spectrum, because he can delve into the depths of things that most people wouldn't think twice on. He has absolutely leveraged it in his career.
I haven't seen Dan Aykroyd in years, and I usually wouldn't go out of my way to leave a comment on You Tube about it, but as he's gotten older his resemblence to my father and his brothers is absolutely amazing.
Saw Dan and John and the band in Dallas back in the day. My girlfriend and me and my drinking buddy went; I think the tickets were $25.... it was an absolute hoot..... it was the best concert any of us ever saw and the entire crowd was enthusiastic laughing all the way out of the auditorium after the show! The buzz was amazing - the band was tight and polished, Belushi has his schtick going and Dan stayed cool with his harmonica. We were totally goofed by the show without the aid of any street medications. A natural high - and memories that still make me smile. 😎
LOVE Crystal Head Vodka❕ 💀 Had no idea Dan Ackroyd was associated with/created Crystal Head. Speaking of Ackroyds.... Not sure if you'll read this Dan. I met/partied with your brother Peter years ago (late 90's). He was here in Sequim, Washington for an outdoor concert at the Airport. He was the announcer for Delbert McClinton. (Bonnie Raitt backed out last minute due to family emergency.) Anyhoo.... Got some good "taken from a real camera before cellphones" pictures. Your brother Peter is quite a character & Party Animal. So often i find myself hoping to never meet my heroes, or to somehow un-meet them... in a world like that, seeing Dan Aykroyd being a humble, great guy is such a nice change of pace. Seems to be a 90% chance that i will come to hate any celebrities when they open their mouth outside of a scripted scene... thankfully there are a few outliers... i was never a shatner fan, but the guy is a legend and just a great person. Dan Aykroyd joins that pantheon of actual heroes. So glad to see a few of the people i grew up watching actually be good people.
I so love Dan Aykroyd and I think so highly of him I remember hearing about what he did immediately after hearing about John's death he immediately ran a long distance to where is he knows that Belushi's wife would hear about John death from him
Thank you Adam! I love Danny! I never get enough of him. He's a genuine good guy. 💞 Aw, I just watched Uncle Buck again too. John Candy was one of the best, ever. 💔 Adam, you're a great interviewer. You ask a question and allow the person to speak, no interrupting. Good stuff!
You can never watch the Blues Brothers movie too many times. I'm not introducing anything new to anyone that I say that the reason is the music. What most people don't remember though, is the time. I moved to North Carolina when I was 10 and 1980, and I remember having the briefcase full of blues album at our home in New Jersey. So that means that album was out in the late '70s. As kids, we got into the blues Brothers because we saw them on Saturday Night Live. It was just an odd thing, trying to find which schemata to put them in your brain. It was a comedy act, from your favorite comedy show... But it was real music... And then in the movie they brought out so many icons, and that's where that movie really hits. As an Irish Catholic white kid from New Jersey I had never heard of any of those people before. From what I understand it was Dan who was the music guy, who was very serious about doing that right, but because of him people like me got introduced too Aretha Franklin, and James Brown, and Aretha... And everyone else that was in it. Like I said, I moved to North Carolina when I was 10. I think the movie came out once I was there. In North Carolina or schools were completely integrated, so we all grew up together. But when the actress first introduced, I was still in New Jersey. People don't understand that New Jersey schools were still very much segregated in the late '70s. I have never met a black person yet, when I first heard that album. I'm just saying that they opened up a whole genre of music to me that probably never would have grabbed me, because of My own demographic, and I deeply appreciate Dan and John for that to this day.
love the interview. this was a cool conversation between the two. As a child of the 80s & 90s Nothing But Trouble was always enjoyable even if the critics were right. As a grown up, I have a new found love of that movie because it was incredibly creative and unique....exactly what I want in movies these days as everything has become so cookie cutter and corporotized. and would never get made today.
Being Adams age, and growing up in Upstate NY. In 1984, the Hudson Valley Lights flew 300' over our house. The same big V Formation accurately depicted in the late 80's early 90's Unsolved Mysteries episode. Where the formation flew over the town's (Yorktown Hts) Police stn (our house a few hundred yards north of it). I saw it slowly flying towards our house out of our Living Room Bay Window. Called the family out to the second story porch off the kitchen "hey!! Look at these lights coming toward us!" We all huddled on the porch as it flew over. You could hear the humming engines. And one plane move out of formation a bit. Within 5 seconds we all could see they we're obviously Ultralights. None of us said a thing to each other. We all knew it was nothing extraordinary at all and without a word, turned back inside to the kitchen. Without a word we all went back to what we each were doing. I still believe there are UAP. I do believe Fravor, and other mass sightings are more than anecdotal evidence. But, when the UAP community still cite the Hudson Valley Lights as evidence - It doesn't help in the battle of destigmatize it all

Who knows? it's possible that off world beings also find this primitive human entertaining as they research what makes him a unique specimen. Seeing Dan, especially as I approach my 60's, is like seeing an honored family friend that has only ever brought joy.
Everyone alive is part of the tapestry
I don’t think a lot of people understand how important Dan is he is one of the all time legends never has he acted like a fool such a humble gracious man I respect this man immensely a true legend
Only if you had an idiot box in your house, now called a flat screen overlord. You must have watched a LOT of TV to make such a comment. Sorry, but I don't put up any TV celebrities / sports people up on a pedestal.
@@quantumpotential7639dont know how I have lasted this long in life without your opinions thank you so much for your outstanding insight and experience
@@quantumpotential7639 well said, dick. 😊
The scene in Nothing But Trouble where emphasis is placed on Aykroyds nose, can never erase it from my mind.
An absolute legend being interviewed by a legend. Great pod.
Blues Brothers is the single greatest comedy of the 80s which puts in high in the running for greatest comedy movie of all time.
Adam - ask Dan next time you see him about if John Belushi ever told him about meeting another musician in the hallway of a band audition for Second City in Chicago needing a band for their new show "Saturday Night Live" back in the early seventies I think, and having a long chat with him. It was my cousin and I heard this from his own mouth! His name was Jake Viscum and he was from Joliet Illinois (where I grew up). He said that John asked him about Stateville prison and my cousin Jake responded, "ya but we are not worried because Illinois District 5 State Police Headquarters is right across the street!" He said that he told John all about his band episodes in the Joliet area! Also in Joliet off Rt 80 (going to the now, Chicagoland Speedway as well as Route 66 dragway (where I used to race), you have to go through am very little town called "Elwood" Sounds familiar Hmmmmmmmmm!!! My cousin Jake said that after the movie came out, he wanted to get a hold of John to ask him about it but he never got the chance because Belushi OD'ed!
Why wasn’t the orphanage tax exempt?

Totally agree with what Adam is expressing about Blues Brothers. As a child it was fun and I loved the music and comedy. It was something my father and I bonded over. As an adult going back and watching it, I’m amazed that so many incredible musicians and singers are in the movie. It’s amazing and truly something that will go down in history. It’s so special to see most of the very best in one place. It’s truly priceless
Aykroyd is a class act! Great interview!
Dan Ackroyd... just when you didn't think you could love him more.
The world will truly suffer when he is gone.
timestamp 16:57, "Just be Kind". Exactly right Mr. Akroyd, Exactly right 🙂
Corolla is such a perfect interviewer for Ackroyd as a well informed fan of his work.
I live in Newport Rhode Island.
And for some reason Bill Murray will show up
at a bar randomly and guest bar tend for the night.
What an incredible conversation between these two. Probably the best interview of Dan Aykroyd I've ever seen. He's a North American Treasure.
Blues Brothers is a movie that when you’re flipping channels and you see it, you watch it from there on out.
Ackroyd is a part of my life, like Steve Martin and John Belushi
Super talent and genius
❤ Huey Lewis ❤
He used to come to our small town a lot (Sequim, Washington). His parents lived here.
Thank you for Everything that you do Mr Ackroyd. Always a pro first. No hidden agenda with this great man. Super talented is right Mr Carolla.
Another stellar show Ace. This podcast just keeps getting better.😊
I love Dan Akyroyd's passion on so many subjects, and it always shows in anything he has created or appeared in. I absolutely believe his self-diagnosis on the spectrum, because he can delve into the depths of things that most people wouldn't think twice on. He has absolutely leveraged it in his career.
Dragnet was an underrated movie
Underated performance for sure
Read em their rights. Read em their rights.
Mr Aykroyd is a one of a kind. A Great entertainer indeed. My favorite was his character in the movie "Neighbors", as Captain Vic. 🤔
Ackroyd is a comedic genius in so many ways. Eish he made some new films, so versatile
Dan Aykroyd one of my favorite actors of all time but also stand-up guy!😊
Was a fun listen. Can't wait for him to come back to talk about cars!
I haven't seen Dan Aykroyd in years, and I usually wouldn't go out of my way to leave a comment on You Tube about it, but as he's gotten older his resemblence to my father and his brothers is absolutely amazing.
Nothing but trouble is a masterpiece of a movie
Saw Dan and John and the band in Dallas back in the day. My girlfriend and me and my drinking buddy went; I think the tickets were $25.... it was an absolute hoot..... it was the best concert any of us ever saw and the entire crowd was enthusiastic laughing all the way out of the auditorium after the show! The buzz was amazing - the band was tight and polished, Belushi has his schtick going and Dan stayed cool with his harmonica. We were totally goofed by the show without the aid of any street medications. A natural high - and memories that still make me smile. 😎
LOVE Crystal Head Vodka❕ 💀
Had no idea Dan Ackroyd was associated with/created Crystal Head.
Speaking of Ackroyds....
Not sure if you'll read this Dan.
I met/partied with your brother Peter years ago (late 90's).
He was here in Sequim, Washington for an outdoor concert at the Airport.
He was the announcer for Delbert McClinton.
(Bonnie Raitt backed out last minute due to family emergency.)
Anyhoo....
Got some good "taken from a real camera before cellphones" pictures.
Your brother Peter is quite a character & Party Animal. Hahahahaa
DELBERT MCCLINTON ❤

I know, right??? He's so underrated!
GREAT GUY in person too! He's really nice
We all partied into the wee hours after his concert. He even signed my CD & concert program.
Lee Oskar played harmonica for Delbert at that concert too.
(If you're not familiar with Lee Oskar - he's famous for playing harmonica in the song: Lowrider. 🎵🎶 Low 🎵 Ri 🎵 der🎶🎵)
Lee not only gave me his harmonica (spit & all) he actually carried an etcher and signed the harmonica for me!
Hot summer night. Partying with Delbert McClinton, Lee Oskar, Peter Belushi...
That was a great night❕❕❕
So often i find myself hoping to never meet my heroes, or to somehow un-meet them... in a world like that, seeing Dan Aykroyd being a humble, great guy is such a nice change of pace. Seems to be a 90% chance that i will come to hate any celebrities when they open their mouth outside of a scripted scene... thankfully there are a few outliers... i was never a shatner fan, but the guy is a legend and just a great person. Dan Aykroyd joins that pantheon of actual heroes. So glad to see a few of the people i grew up watching actually be good people.
Great interview! The Blues Brothers is probably my favorite movie.
Dan, I sure miss you and John together. The best comedy team every!
Good stuff!
He’s a very sweet and kind man and that’s his nature.
France! We come from France! 😂
Such a great interview and Crystal Skull is top notch!
It happened again that I thought "wow, Adam has some interviewing chops" - great insights.
We’re all super proud of you Dan, thanks for so many laughs 😂
love the interview. this was a cool conversation between the two.
But, when the UAP community still cite the Hudson Valley Lights as evidence - It doesn't help in the battle of destigmatize it all
I know the blues Brothers word for word. One of my favorite movies of all time. Strange brew is a close second. Love Canadian comedy.
Shout out to the McKenzie brothers!😂
That old school voice. Lol. Love it!! So true. My old landlord talks like that. Thank you for the laughs guys!
