  • After the death of Ceasar, Cleaopatra comes Rome and demands from Antony that his son from Ceasar to be recognized lawful son, with a public declaration.
    I am fond of history and particularly in the history of Rome and I share videos about it. Rome (2005) was one the best tv show and also some kind of documentary. I claim no rights of the videos I share

    I'm impressed they actually got Cleopatra's general appearance right. She WAS NOT Egyptian. She was Greek, and this actress looks fairly Greek. Her entire dynasty was descended from a Macedonian general that fought for Alexander the Great. They were usurpers that cosplayed the Pharaohs of old but had little in common with them, least of all DNA

    One of the most terrible falsehoods perpetuated in almost every version of the story. Antony was not in Alexandria with Caesar. He was back in Rome. However, the two did once meet, when she was about 13 or 14 and Antony led the cavalry that took back Alexandria for her father, Ptolemy XII. Cleopatra was in Rome when Caesar was assassinated, and didn't leave for almost a month, so it is possible she dealt with Antony there as well. But she would never have asked for Caesarian to be recognized, she would have known better than that. The next time they would see each other was in Tarsus when the two began their relationship. Also, Antony was, and I use the exact words of Augustus "f***ing Glaphyra" who was also a foreign princess from modern Central Turkey.

    • @Rikalonius
      @Rikalonius 7 місяців тому

      @@danielscallon7515 No such evidence exists. It would be foolish to look for it. A Greek queen and a Roman consul were already scandalous without bringing Caesarion into it. The Roman Senate would have never recognized him, and she is smart enough to know that. Caesar will assassinated in March, so there is just as much substance to the idea that sailing home to Egypt before late Spring would be hazardous. Since it was her second visit, I'm sure her itinerary to return to Egypt was already set.

Here Antony says they met in Alexandria meaning during the Alexandria war but what we know after the battle of Pharsalus he went back to Rome to protect Ceasar interes in Italy. Their first meeting its during Cleopatra visit in Rome 46-45 BC. Also after Ceasar death she never came back to Rome. I am Egyptian, A COPTIC CHRISTIAN EGYPTIAN.
    I shout that out loud because we are the most pure blooded Egyptians out there and that's not only my opinion that's what Egyptologists, Historians and Scientists also agreed on,
    and I tell you that every word that Bassem Youssef said is right and I totally agree with him.
    Yes Egypt had lots of mixed cultures throughout its history like for example: Greeks, Romans and Arabs, but the Egyptian blood didn't mix and change that much and that's because for centuries we Egyptians had a golden tradition rule to marry our cousins, and that tradition is still present until now especially in Upper Egypt(from Assiut to Aswan), Although that tradition seems silly and bad from a scientific biological point of view, but that doesn't matter, silly or not we kept that tradition of marrying our cousins for centuries and that helped us to preserve our pure Egyptian blood not mixed as long as we could, and the result is what you see now and that is Modern Egyptians looks typical to their Ancient Egyptian Ancestors, just look at my skin color and Bassem Youssef's skin color we are almost the same although he is a Muslim who was born and lived in Cairo and I am a Coptic Christian who was born and lived in Luxor and there is almost a 1000 km distance between us, doesn't that tell you a thing or two about who Ancient Egyptians were and what they looked like?
    With all due respect for all the Black people and all the other ethnicities out there, but we Egyptians are special very special, WE ARE NOT Black or White or Yellow, Not Europeans or Africans or Asians, Not Assyrians or Persians or Israelites or Nubians or Greeks or Romans or Arabs or French or Italians or Germans or British or Turkish or Ukrainians, Not Middle Easterners or Caucasians or Mediterraneans or Levants or Amazigh or Berbers or even North Africans.

      Because training the actors to speak archaic dialects of Latin and Coptic would take a lot of time, yield questionable results, and turn 99% of casual viewers away. So they decided to focus on the story instead. IF you want to see a show that features Romans actually speaking Latin, there is a german series about the Varus disaster towards the end of Octavian's reign. They picked Italian actors that look extremely Roman and taught them the real language, it's pretty cool because I do get where you're coming from

      @@jakeg3733 good points but very little ancient Egyptian would grace been spoken by Cleopatra, the only Ptolemaic ruler who even bothered to learn it, and she as a Macedonian monarch would have spoken Koine Greek for the most part even with upper class Romans, virtually all of whom were at least bilingual after learning Greek in childhood tutoring. It is assumed that Cleopatra also knew Latin for legal reasons, but it is not one of the languages mentioned by Plutarch.

      @@Ianassa91 Latin was still the language of Roman law and governance in the Senate, and Latin literature was by now respected and used for casual correspondence, but since Cleopatra was a Ptolemaic queen she would have naturally spoke Koine Greek with Roman colleagues and lovers given her Macedonian ethnicity and origins.

      Cleopatra was part of the Greek Ptolemic family which had ruled Egypt for about 300 years at that point. She was not ethnically Egyptian like most of the previous pharaohs were.

    Sorry but this is most unsuccessful role in this movie, also worst Cleopatra ever. Terrible. Disappointment. So far Leonor Varela is the best actor ever who played this role! She was Cleopatttra herself!

      I found this Cleopatra to be terrific. She's a Chameleon from the start, whip smart, and while she fumbles things she's also always playing the game like a card sharp. She says the quiet parts out loud in a way that's clearly exciting and she never once pretends to be ordinary. Really captivating in a way that lets the viewer see how she could capture the full attention of so many people.
