We get so many DJ's asking us which of these two subs is better. The short answer? It depends. DJ Ty reviews the specs of both of these quality subwoofers, and gives some direction on what each of their strengths are.

Great question. When coupling the KSubs side by side, try it out first in regular mode. Deep mode is one of those features that you can certainly experiment with to achieve the right sound for you. Best advice is to set the room up early and try it both ways. Go with the sound you prefer. Thanks!

I recently bought the K-10's with the K-sub and pound for pound ....it rocks! Easy to set up. Sound is clear and powerful. I highly recommend the K Series!

Wanted to say great review on the subs!!! I had my eye on the ksub but I want that hip hop low bass so you have convinced me not to get the ksub now I'm looking at the kw the only thing is being mobile and using a suv to haul my gear I can't go to big and I have to go with one sub for now. With your expertise what would you recommend for that deep bass I know your advertising for qsc but any advice will help out a bunch right now my top cabs are the Mackie THA 15 tapco thumps 400 watts. Thanks

great Video ! I own 3 ksubs and love them ! they are great for mobile gigs.
They leave me wanting a little bit more when i do live sound for Electronic parties. RICK at BassIsLoaded helped me out with ideas for future upgrades to my PA . (thanks!)
Side note, while doing lighting at a festival I was discussing this with the very reputable sound guy. He was saying how well my Ksubs sounded and how tight the bass response was.
I think in the future i will be running 2 ksubs and 2 kw181

Thanks. You have officially sold me on the kw181. Just a quick question. Which do you think will deliver the more superior sound, 4 mackie thump th-15 with the kw181...or 2 qsc k12 with the kw181?

what are the pros and cons of stacking a pair of subs versus sitting them side by sids? I'm using an EV ZXA1 Sub and love it so far, think I will be picking up a second one for backup and larger events, and also a 3rd ZLX12p top. Any input on stacking a pair of ZXA1 Subs would be great.

@EctheCarGuy Spec wise, the KW181's will give you +6 dB over the SRM1801's. So it would take roughly two of the 1801's side by side to equal the output of a single KW181. It's a major difference.

I just got the ksub, and I have a question about the inputs. It has two xlr/1/4" inputs, and two xlr "thru" outputs. I was originally under the impression that the sub conotained a built-in crossover, after receiving the sub i realized that is not accurate. The way I have the sub setup currently, is the left output from my mixer goes into the '1' input, and the right output from my mixer goes into the '2' input on the sub, then the 2 thru outputs go to my 2 tops. Now this sub is very loud when the volume is only at the second stop from 0db, so what I am wondering, is should I only have the left or the right outputs going into the sub, and not both left AND right?

I have 2 K12 and a ksub and a kw151. I was planning on using those subs together or would you advise against? It's Saturday I was planning on using since event will be in a gym. The DJ music I am not worried about but was thinking may help with fuller sound for a mariachi band since doubt any sub bass notes are played

When having an event and doing a closed environment party (mostly electronic) measuring around 100sqm, would 2 k8's and 2 ksubs handle a 400-500 people event?
I know the more you add the less you push them but, can it do a decent job?
Also, what if removing the ksubs?

I own 2 QSC k subs and 2 yamaha dxr 15's. All I can say is WOW. Couple the 2 ksubs together and they produce more bottom end than i could have ever imagined! I know the Ksub has gotten a bad wrap. I am here to tell you that they are Incredible subs for mobile DJs

@agiprodj You think two k10's and one kw181 partnered with a b52 matrix 1000 as a filler would do the trick? :) (I already own a matrix 1000, looking for a backup system with a smaller footprint but still some good power)

@DJCalienteNYC Have you compared the KW181 to two KSubs? hard to believe that one 18" that's just a few hundred more would be better than the 4 12" woofers with double the power you'd get with two ksubs. Just wondering if you could give more info on your reason for saying this.

@crankupthevolume1517 Two of our staff own the 1801's (SWA) and are VERY pleased with how they sound. They hit extremely hard and are very reliable. One of the best subs out there in the same price range.

can you advise please, Can I use 2 x yahama dsr112 and one qsc ksub? I'm a vocalist and perform songs from late 50's/60/70 and play to audiences from about 40 years of age upwards, crowd capacity from 100-300

Beverly Bigg-Wither Probably too late but the simple answer is all you need is one good 15. EV or QSC. IT IS NOT FOR BOOM OR VOLUME but it will round out your sound. I’ve had every kind of band speaker etc and application If you run through a good mixer with the right eq and gain structures it will sound huge without making people crazy. I have 2 zlx 12 Inch EV. With one 15 sub. I run in stereo through a Allen and Heath mixer. Keep gains low and use your faders. Ask someone to show you. Good luck

@naveen4nse For your type of events Naveen, you would probably be a lot happier with the KW181's. This all boils down again to size vs. output. Are the KW's the best sub out there? Definitely not. But for their size they really crank, and you'll get way more out of them then the KSubs for your type of events.

  • @kidbanga10

i wonder how this sub compares to the yorkvillle ls801

  • @agiprodj
    @agiprodj  12 років тому

@MrTikiShah Neither is better. All depends on the type of events you do and what your opinion is. We sell equal amounts of all these subs. There are pros & cons to each of them. The EV118P is more similar to the KW181 than the KSub. Feel free to hop on our chat tool, or call/email us directly. We'd be happy to help.

Tons of great info in these videos. Kudos. I just got some K10's and trying to decide on a sub. I have very limited storage space and vehicle capacity and usually solo on gigs w/occasional ass't. My gigs are usually 100 - 150 guests, sometimes 175 - 200. I play everything from hip-hop and pop to classic rock. 2 KSUBS seem ideal for my K10's but I think I could only fit one in my storage space. Worried that KW181 may overpower my tops. Could def. only afford and store one of those. Can't decide.

@EctheCarGuy i have the SRM1801s since Jan 2011, they both went out on me... one during a bar party, and the other one the week after at a wedding. bob mackie doesn't own the company any more and LOUD TECHNOLOGIES is running this product into the ground. the two local authorized repairs shops said they get a lot of mackie products in for repair and that i would be out of my subs for at least 5 weeks but more likely 8 weeks to have them repaired. i complained to LOUD and they sent me replacements

Just wondering. In you honest opinion. How would two KW181s sound for a dance done in a GYM with ruffly 200-300 people on or around the dance floor? All of my good DJ buddies tell me that you dont have to supply sound for the entire GYM, but just the dance area. I'm looking to purchase my buddies JBL srx 728 which has 220DB I believe. According to our video the 181's are putting out 135dbs. So is that a major difference when it comes to a GYM?
    Thanks

    • @-db-7901
      @-db-7901 3 місяці тому

220db would knock the earth out of it's orbit! Decibels are logarithmic and so they increase exponentially in a nonlinear fashion. 150dB would knock you over like a nuclear bomb blast wave. 220dB would kill you instantly. Theoretically the loudest airborne sound possible is 194dB but a sperm whale can produce a click at 200dB in water allowing it to travel great distances. That's the limit of terrestrial audio intensity. 220dB is essentially impossible on earth.

I have 2 jbl prx 515 subs powered but I am not happy with them - even putting them side by side or on each side of the dance floor - it does not give me the bass I need... I do not like the ksubs either... maybe the KW would be right for me... what do you think? I have 6 k10 tops now... and want to add mega bass with them!

    • @-db-7901
      @-db-7901 3 місяці тому

How do you deploy 6 K10's as mains without massive overlap of the HF sections? Any configuration I can imagine would produce horrendous comb filtering and smear the sound without any appreciable increase in SPL. These are single point source boxes; they are not meant to be splayed or arrayed under any circumstances unless you're in need of 360-degree coverage and space them considerably in a circle around the stage they must sound awful!

@Ghost540 Probably not. You'd be pushing this way too hard for that number of people. We're thinking you'd need at least 2 of the KW181's and 2-4 K10's or K12's at a minimum.

One Kw181 sounds better than two K Subs. The K Sub doesnt have have pounding bass. Why buy a subwoofer that sounds like its humming when you can buy one Kw 181 and it sounds like two K subs. You might say that its bass is too loud but, thats why a volume control knob was made.

Having owned both the KSub and KW181, I'll say that they each have their strengths but for the small difference in size and weight I find the KW181 to be the more versatile of the two. I've used just two KW181s for smaller outdoor festivals (300-500 people) with KW122s (or k12's) as tops and had great results. The KSubs cannot project the low end of a kick drum nearly as well and tend to sound 'farty" when pushed. There's no wrong answer here, it's just that the 181's are a BETTER answer!

The Ksub is band pass design. Its not a direct facing design like the KW. When you play the Ksub, you wont feel the bass. It just fills the air with a bass sound. The best i give you is, You have to hear it in person. Forget about how many they push or how many woofers are in the cabinet. Not all subwoofers sound good. The closest sub that sound like the KW 181 is the Harbinger HP118s.. You will like the way it sounds. They pound.. Trust me. I test lots of equipment.
