The above paragraph was what I had written as a template when I recorded this video a few weeks before Shane MacGowan died, alongside a handful of other pogues/irish tunes that I love that are coming later this week. When he died, I was in Istanbul and the news was delivered to me as my plane landed. Was gutted but considered pulling these videos as I didn’t want it to appear trite. Then I remembered I’d released Sickbed just a few days before.
I adored Shane and to me he is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I had the pleasure of seeing him live with The Pogues many many times and I’m so thankful for those nights. I miss seeing them live annually so so much but it wasn’t quite the same without Phil Chevron anyway. I know they toured and released albums without Shane but I just don’t see it happening. RIP Shane. I’ve been loving you a long time
