Toyota Tundra Tailgate Lift Supports

This is a 2013 which is the second generation Tundra. If you notice the tailgate slams down this is the fox. I might have made a mistake regarding the proper torx bit size. It could be T 30.

Is the lift support supposed to make closing the tailgate easier(lighter) or slow it down when it's opened?

Definitely slows it down when opening so it doesn’t just slam down. As for closing it helps as especially if you pause it’ll resist somewhat falling back down, if that makes sense.

Not sure what the clips are called but they are part of the lift support. Not sure if you can buy just the clips.

Stabilus is the brand. Part # 4B256726. Rock auto calls it a lift support.
