My Tacoma came with protective plugs in the glovebox for both ends of the camera connector. They are plugged into each other. Weather proof connectors.

Do you sit on your tailgate, like at s Tailgate party? I wonder how strong the oval shaped hinge is while bearing vertical, static weight
I sit on it without any trouble. I think the side cables would help more than the hinges
would be interesting if this is also working for the similar Hilux, sold outside US
It’s the same on the Chevy Silverado, so probably common for most trucks
