Thank you for making the world aware of General Currie. Truly deserved better than he received, but, true to character, he made the best of it. Thanks for the video.
I have to say, as an American, you don’t often hear about Canada’a contribution to both WWI and WWII. It’s good to see the country and it’s people getting the recognition it deserves.
@@brownshoeblues2014 yes they did. But as common knowledge, most only recognize the allies as American, British and French. They don’t commonly add in Canada or Australia as they are lumped into the British empire so most people don’t realize it when learning about it in America was my point.
It's unfortunate. American revisionism would lead most Americans to believe 90% of German casualties in WW2 were caused by Americsns rather than Russians.
I don’t know the total number, over 9000 Americans served in the RCAF in Bomber Command during WWII and 397 gave their lives. The Canadians were the only Commonwealth nation that had a command of it’s own serving in the RAF, the 6th (Canadian) Group in Bomber Command. The Canadians had the largest contribution of any of the Commonwealth nations to the UK in WWI and WWII.
Your dedication towards bringing awareness to Canadian Military history has made impacts on many lives. You have personally inspired my passion and commitment towards learning about such an era.
I always asked myself about the Canadian role in both Wold 1 and world II, and this documentary.. answers all my questions, it was unfair to ignore their role in both wars... Greetings from Iraq...
A year late and several viewings of Arthur Curry and the Canadians under my belt, I feel that I have to say that your videos about Canada during WW1 are among the best videos of the Great War I've ever seen. Thank you. I hope you will do more videos of the Great War and Canada's role in it.
Thanks. I have long studied general Currie after living near General Currie Elementary School in Richmond BC. I lived the first year of my life on Mons Drive in Vancouver so especially appreciated the story of the Mons last-day sacrifice. Some of the Brits *looked* like Great Generals. Arthur Currie *was* a Great general.
A wonderful Documentary Coverage about A Great Military Leader & a great Military Mind (Sir Arthur Currie) He had Irish Origin immigrated to Canada . He was from Ordinary -Public Family ( Not British Aristocracy -Conservator Family-) & He was from Former Canadian Royal(commonwealth ) Army Not From British Royal Army ...For that He was not Received Sufficient appreciate what He deserved at that times
General Currie was a powerhouse with a great mind. For a man that resembled Alfred Hitchcock, I bet his men had respect for him (until Mons, that is...). He deserves the same credit as the big British Generals we hear so much about, if not more.
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY USA brother thank you for sharing your Biography of this great man which I have heard about him and his command. Please don't cover anything up I am a military man and everyone should see the results of war
As a UK veteran I know the Canadian forces did in ww1-2 And Iraq and Afghanistan my father was at Mons there's something about an angel that appeared thanks to all Canadian veterans and serving
I find it unacceptable that Arthur Currie is condemned for the battle of Mons (and RIP to every brave Canadian who died that day), but who was forced to fight a battle he did not want to fight at Passchendaele and losing almost 16000 soldiers, which he predicted. His shoulders were so big, the top Brass rode them, taking the Canadian corps incredible achievements as their own. Even to this day the Canadian Government celebrate his and his corps accomplishments every year. Monuments in france, the Netherlands, and throughout Europe have his leadership written on them. Where is a picture of Sir Arthur Currie on our currency? a picture of him in every Legion in this country? a man who was so dedicated to his cause, that when he found a spare moment, he broke down and grieved for his men and the task at hand, for country. A man who was sought out by royalty, and leaders, and so disgraced by his own government, that a handful of people were there to meet him, planned so he got no recognition whatsoever, his life and story buried under the proud step used to unite our country. For him and all soldiers in the Canadian corps," I stand in salute, soldier."
Norm, thank you for this video, which puts things into perspective, as regards the majority of the military leadership during this war. It seems to me that it is clear that General Currie, was gifted by God of great ability in matters of war leadership. I believe General Currie was of Ulster Scots descent, and if you are looking for tough fighting men, then look no further than Ulster. I have no doubt there was much envy among his Officer peers, of his and his Corps' successes and making it clear that their ability was average at best. He saved the lives of many of his men because of strategic ability and if they had been under many other leaders, the casualties would have been higher. The enormous loss of life, bears this out. The fallout of this war is still felt today and I think is responsible for the lack of character and direction of the western population today. These were some of the cream of the human race who were sacrificed, for one part, through lack of intelligent planning, care and attention to detail. I can only say I am thankful for God's mercy in that I was not alive at that time . God rest the souls of all who perished in that terrible war.
A thousand greetings, great admiration and greater respect for your esteemed channel, which is full of accurate and very useful information. Your channel is proud and appreciated. Thank you for your sincere efforts and wonderful work. I wish you lasting success. Please, dear sir, translate all the episodes into Arabic, please
An excellent video of one of THE great commanders of WW1. I was already aware of Currie as a result of my love of science fiction. I can hear people wondering what science fiction has to do with a WW1 General. Well, in Robert A Heinlein's novel "Starship Troopers" there is mention of "Camp Arthur Currie" as a training base in Canada. Heinlein had used several names of real soldiers as camp names & ship names in the book so I was curious as to who Arthur Currie was & did some research, finding out most of what is in the video. He is a man who should be better known & remembered. A truly great General & Commander who was one of a very few who were truly effective & innovative in the terrible war. #Lest We Forget
The Canadian government abhors the concept of the military. They hide any news they can about it from the public, good and bad. There is something about the military's competence or maybe the idea of a militarist nationalism that scares them. They hide behind platitudes but are afraid to actually celebrate what we have avery right to be proud of. Our victories and our history.
Looking at the state of the currie homestead house, yep on par with how Canada treats its history. Absolutely decaying everywhere with no maintenance. Better import another million more Tim Horton TFW's to pump those gdp numbers.
That final decision was a bad one and it doesn’t take away from all the good ones he had but the War was over & had you asked each Man he sent I can guarantee you he would be close to 100% on No. What’s terrifying is if he felt justified in throwing Men’s lives away for reasons other then winning the war imagine what the leaders who didn’t care as much about casualties would have justified Al through the war.
This is one of my favorite documentaries. It just kills me that it came out years ago, and you have stolen it, and pitched it as new...all to make a couple of bucks. This is disgraceful of you and this channel. I hope you have the decency to compensate the creator of this fabulous work.
Authur currie what a hero he was the only General Canadians who fought and one the war are stupid General’s sent brave British troops over to be slaughtered its disgusting your General was treated he was a brave hero RIP General currie Godbless thank you
Thank you for making the world aware of General Currie. Truly deserved better than he received, but, true to character, he made the best of it. Thanks for the video.

Just to be clear. 3 minutes in and I love it already 💗💗💗. Thank you for yet another amazing documentary
We Canadians dont get enough recognition for all we sacrificed in both wars 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
A very well done piece.
Thank you, my hat is off to this man.
I always asked myself about the Canadian role in both Wold 1 and world II, and this documentary.. answers all my questions, it was unfair to ignore their role in both wars... Greetings from Iraq...
Greetings from the United States… sorry about that whole Oh well you know

Brilliant documentary....sad end to a great soldier..
@longyx321 May I suggest that in the case of this particular soldier, he really did fade away.
Tremendous Story. Watched this Tribute Contents on another Presentation. Canadian Heritage - Mom. Thank you. German/Irish - Dad.
Very well done. It is interesting to note the difference between him and Sir John Monash also reputed to be the greatest WW1 General
Monash was a Lt General.
already a history hits member....very good show

General Arthur Currie sounds like a man I would have been proud to have served with.
He certainly deserves to be appreciated far more than he is.

That's where I knew his name from!
Amazing documentary.
I grew up in Cobourg and it is cool to see the town in a documentary.
Those who sit in safe offices, far removed from the battlefield, write the story and grant themselves all the glory.
As a kiwi, What a Legend that G Sir Arthur Currie was and a Hero, Respect.
The Canadians and Anzacs were sacrificed by incompetence. But without them the outcome of WW1 would have been different.
He was brilliant and deserves far more credit for leading the Canadian troops
Why are Canadians not taught this in school? We learned about European and Russian history but not anything about our own country's contributions.

He was also an embezzler, but he earned his respect in the war.
Very ínteresting þega
No one wants to kill anyone on the last day of the war unless they have to
Stop blurring stuff out it’s a war doc
That blurring was in the original reels.
I am glad he never lived to see WWII twenty year after His victory
There's not even a slab or a sign saying he was born in that house?...WHY??...
Hello! Remember Australia, there's practically nothing on our 'Perl harbour'
Looking at the state of the currie homestead house, yep on par with how Canada treats its history. Absolutely decaying everywhere with no maintenance. Better import another million more Tim Horton TFW's to pump those gdp numbers.

Canada Newfoundland 1915 Gallipoli war campaign 19 september suvla bay extraction they withdrew peninsula coribou hill 🇨🇦
The father of modern warefare.
day 124 of asking for more World war WEIRD
Currie's success perhaps was due to his keen gift of foresight etc and refusal to be brainwashed by British military dogma!!!
Sending troops out of a trench to charge the Germans through machine gun fire is stupid, not great.
This is one of my favorite documentaries. It just kills me that it came out years ago, and you have stolen it, and pitched it as new...all to make a couple of bucks. This is disgraceful of you and this channel. I hope you have the decency to compensate the creator of this fabulous work.
At least someone is showing the world about a what we have done. Few Canadians will even see this, watch the history channel lately? Garbage
You cannot just assume that the video has been “stolen” and that the relevant copyright licensing has not been complied with.
The credits at the end list those responsible . Norm Christie has completed several WW1 &2 documentaries all well worth the time to watch
the house looks like one they had in one of those haunting ghost shows
Authur currie what a hero he was the only General Canadians who fought and one the war are stupid General’s sent brave British troops over to be slaughtered its disgusting your General was treated he was a brave hero RIP General currie Godbless thank you
Wow not at all what UA-cam promoted
