  • An 18 footer slid up out of the water without a sound and looked at us. When they get that big you don't look at the length, you look at the girth..."
    A section from the full interview with Wayne Lynch during which he recalls rescuing another surfer who was got in the riptide. Turnds out they weren't alone.

    Brilliant observation about the shark being curious towards the man who nearly drowned vs the one who didn't. Hands down there has to be a connection. I am so curious how sharks respond to different energies and vibrations. It clearly makes some difference.

    Mate This bloke is a true waterman whether as a fisherman a surfer etc. I’d believe what he says about the ocean with out question, I also met him many years ago when I was a young bloke, he was very funny, humble and generous with his time, we started talking about my “Keyo Plastic machine” (and how as a grom I used it too fish off it in the Tweed heads canals and New Brighton) so we then got onto talking fishing and sharks he listened too our hectic Schooner induced rambling Shark encounter story with patience haha, but we actually talked mainly about fishing. Very knowledgeable, in the end we just listened. Top bloke (note I put a similar comment too this on another site, just thought others might be interested) cheers Haydox

    I never had a shark in a threatening situation with me when I was in the water, thank god; and I did occasionally find myself in deep water...for example diving into 50m deep water to retrieve a lost gaff hook...

    There are less than 3500 great white sharks left count down to extinction

    • @realMaverickBuckley
      @realMaverickBuckley Рік тому

      Nah. Dont believe everything you find on Google. Its a bit like when your parents say they've got no money for a Macdonalds, they do bit they say they don't so you won't ask. They've been saying 'Around 3500' since the 90s.
      But there are 1460 tagged Whites in Australian Waters alone. 106 from one single little chain of tiny islands too. That's tagged. So God knows how many there are just in Australian trade waters.(within 200kms of the coast of Australia)
      In a 2014 Study , at least 2400 White Sharks were counted off the California Coastline.
      Another 12-1400 just off south Africa.
      Add in China, Malaysia, Thailand up to Japan, Russia, Korea, East Pacific, all up and down both sides of the Americas, New Zealand has a large population , the Med has a few.
      Their numbers are soaring. It's called the Predator Prey cycle. Numbers have increased exponentially. Seals almost went extinct around 1900, that caused Whitestone struggle, then they started recovering after it was illegal to hunt seals, then in the 60s to 80s White Shark hunting was big, as was unregulated trawlers both meant the numbers declined. But now its a 200,000 usd fine and 10yrs in jail for killing a white shark, and their food is plentiful,they're prospering.

    • @realMaverickBuckley
      @realMaverickBuckley Рік тому

      I should add , when it comes to extinction status, there is a scale from 1 to 7 , 1 being no problem at all,numbers are exploding. 2 means no real problems, numbers are increasing strongly. 7 is on the cusp of extinction etc etc
      Worldwide, if you include European Whites, they're a 2. If you don't, they're a 1.
      European White Sharks are however a 4. Because North African countries have no rules against catching, no regulations about commercial fishing by catch etc and southern Europeans wiped out their Seal population decades ago.
      Sadly, you'll often see White Sharks being butchered in Tunisian, Algerian or Libyan Markets

      Scientists and marine biologists are saying they're thriving here in Oz and from what my SharkWatch apps show, they're doing well. A lot of sharks are hanging around the WA coast atm and a few of those sightings are of great whites. Since becoming protected (which I couldn't agree more with doing), their numbers aren't depleting at all. It seems arsehole humans really were their main predators.
      Fucking epic seeing their numbers improving.

      There's plenty here off of Cape Cod. Like Australia they are protected here in the states. Unless a lot of them are getting caught in fishing nets there's no reason their population should be decreasing.

      @@realMaverickBuckley There aren't a lot of Whites in the Med. The ones that are on either coast of Italy.
