I looked into all these and none were suitable due to overhanging cherry tree and the rotting effects of the sap leaves and cherries. Firbre glass reinforced plastic was the best option.
Thank you for doing the research. We haven't found that tree sap damages any of the materials listed in this video (it does have other repercussions that will affect every roof material ), but as long as you make the best decision for your roof, then go for it! I bet those cherry trees look amazing.
@@theroofingchannel the tree looks great and the cherries are lovely but it totally overhangs the garage and destroyed the felt roof into time at all, the birds eat all the cherries now before we get any and shit all over the roof so that's a contributing factor. It's a neighbours tree , they don't even like cherries but wont cur it down...
@@leesmethurst1849 can't remember the exact name, but GRP is pretty standard so I don't think there are many variations. I got a company to do it because the roof need complete rebuild including rafters , I priced up the materials alone and came to £1800 and they did it for £2000, I bet it will cost a lot more now.

What about spray foam roof with silicone? That’s what I just put down on my flat….I mean flat (negative actually collecting ponds of water) created a slope with the spray foam then silicone coating. Had to tear out all the Bitumen roll roofing because water got under the layers.
I have a 20ft width x 12ft very slow slope epdm rubber roof. Maybe 4 inches. Its over my laundry room only 4 inches of insulation between out and inside. Torch down was awesome and lasted! FYI folks. My problem now is massive ice glaciers 4ft from edge back up roof. I roof rake with every storm but i am older and it kicks my butt. I missed the last storm, only took that one storm and it was back to ice build up. This stuff is heavy, dangerous and damaging. Please, is there anything I can do to help other then more insulation (which would have to be ceiling to floor) therefore lowering my ceiling inside? It just gets hot up there and melts the snow even on 20degree days if the sun is shining nicely.
Not at all! A popular option that we didn't include in this video is Modified Bitumen (MB). There are other materials besides even that, but they are generally either outdated or unreliable.
@@theroofingchannel SBS ,polyester torch on (MP) is not outdated, There are not many skilled enough to use it. That's why many are using rubber or GRP. half a day instruction and away you go a fully trained roofer.
@@MrFlatroofer We agree that a torch-on roof with good installation is a great roof system. If a homeowner can find a good contractor to install their torch-on, it's a solid choice. The main reason we have a hard time recommending it is the higher risk that you get from hiring an unprofessional contractor; we've seen too many fire accidents in our Tennessee area. It would make a great video topic in the future to go over how to find a good flat roof contractor to install a torch-on. If you have any qualifying questions to ask a flat roofer to see if they can do torch-on, let us know!
@@theroofingchannel Thanks. I am nearing 80 yeas old now and the knees are tiring when climbing up and down ladders and carrying heavy weights otherwise I would have made a video of a flat roof that would last a 100 years. and it would be cheaper and nicer looking than ,TPO, GRP, Rubber etc. The metal roof on your blog looks good, but then it is not a flat roof, it is a sloping roof. Bless y'all.
Maybe modified bitumen roll roofing but if you have no slope do not just torch it down better to hot tar mop it down. Otherwise you risk water getting in the seams and under the rolls. Unfortunately I speak from experience. I had to tear of all my modified B rolls and decided to create a slope with spray foam (closed cell) with a silicone coating. Totally waterproof and durable.

The best flat roof finish is Longstrip Copper with Batten Roll or Standing Seam Joints.
Can't you put a shllow depth of white stone shingle on an EPDM roof to relect tbe sunlight. Thats what we use in the UK on top of a felt roof.
The best materials for a flat roof is a 3 layer SBS Polyester torch on system. All professional roofers use it. A minimum life of 30 years.
What about using ICF concrete roof?

Is it okey to put metal panels over a rotted leaking roof ?
What about underlayment for almost a flat roof?
Does the standing seam metal roof meet Miami Dade hurricane standards?

How can I determine the proper ventilation/ vents needed for my 2 flat . Flat roof. Im having humidity issues
www.lomanco.com/vent-resources/vent-calculator The Lomanco vent calculator works reliably for us.
Which is the torch on roof material
SSMR Needs to be mechanically seamed for any slope under 3/12.
At 2:16 that should read Kynar 500, not 'kind-of 500'.
Good spot! Thanks for the heads up. It's fixed now.
You're welcome!

Epdm firestone 1.5mm 50lat, PVC 10-15 lat. Tpo (poliofefiny) 25lat
EPDM roofs have many problems, good for 20 yrs or less.
