i use to play around with FL Studio, Reason in Windows, been on linux for about 4 years now love this program it's free and can be used on nearly every OS
just wanted to say that i super appreciate your videos and teaching style, i just started playing around with modular synth and videos like this are what make that possible, thank you!
Omri do you offer a series of videos for the complete beginner to eurorack? Would be cool if you made a set of them for Udemy or whichever. I'd totally buy a course. I guess I should become patreon member and check out yoru 100 page PDF? is that where I shoudl start? Most of the videos I see you make are for the advanced user and most of it goes over my head.. I just don't know where to start :)
Hi, yeah, I have 2 courses about modular synthesis but I use VCV since it's free and everyone can follow along. The PDF is interesting, but it's more of ideas and techniques and not specifically for beginners. I have a few live streams I did for beginners though, they might also be interesting.
@@OmriCohen-Music Yeah VCV is all I can afford and is what I'd be using starting out. If I become any good at it then I'll consider buying real hardware later. Where can I see these 2 courses? How about the live streams, are they available on youtube? Or do I access them all via patreon?
@@OmriCohen-Music Assumed so with the new vst. Is it worth jumping on the vst version with the amount of version 2 modules available right now? Hoping the Alan turing machine modules will be updated.
Hey Omri ! Great video for beginners! I had a question. I saved my patches in VCV Rack 2 Free and they got saved in .vcv format. But when I opened them again, VCV Rack 2 gives me an error saying that VCV Rack patches cannot be opened in VCV Rack 2. i am not sure why this is happening. Does VCV Rack 2 Free not let you save patches ?
@@OmriCohen-Music hey, so I was just going through the community page on VCV's website and turns out that a few people with older macbooks have encountered this problem. The solution to this problem is to open the patch by going to file menu--> open --> select the patch.
Omri - This was super helpful. Do you have a one page cheat sheet for us patreons with your best most used tricks? I’m hopeless at remembering them haha 😂
@@OmriCohen-Music so good exactly what I was thinking :)…. I should make a few cheat sheets like this for Bitwig and VCV of common things I often do but forget the shortcuts this is a great reference… thanks omri and have a great Xmas.
I've just bought VCV Rack 2 and. your videos have been really helpful in getting me started. I have a couple questions if you have time to answer. 1/ I've managed to set up a simple sequencer in VCV to send midi to my Moog Matriarch, which is great. However all the sequencers I've. tried just seem to send one very short note at a time, which is fine for plucks but when I turn the attack up, nothing plays. Presumably I need a way to set the sequencer for longer notes or tied notes, to give the output time to trigger a long attack pad type sound. Do you know which sequencers do this? 2/ I'd love to get VCV Rack talking to my Matriarch (and M32+SH) and from what I can tell I need an expert sleeps ES-8. However for that to work, I'd also need a case and all I really want is the converter. I wondered if you knew of another way to do this? Many thanks - love you videos :)
Hi! About the gate length, there are a few things you can try. For example, there's the Dgate module from BogAudio that will convert short triggers into gates. You can also try a dedicated sequencer like the Phrase Sequencers from Impromptu. They have built in glide and tied steps that you can add. If you want to send CV out of VCV, you will need a DC coupled interface. ES8 is an option but you can also get something like a Motu interface, or maybe you already have an interface with DC outputs?
@@Banquet... Well, if you have the 18i20, have a look at this - www.modulargrid.net/e/boredbrain-music-optx It's an ADAT module that you can use with a small case.
