- LEGO advent calendar season is back for 2023. Join me for the annual LEGO advent calendar door opening spectacular as I open every door on all 2023 LEGO advent calendars including Star Wars, Harry Potter, Friends, City and Marvel Avengers. A Christmas tradition since 2017, I will be opening every LEGO advent calendar door each day until December 24th and judging all 120 gifts before declaring LEGO advent calendar of the year 2023. Would have placed Friends above Marvel on the basis that there is at least a tiny bit of play value with the Friends pet food. But yikes, for both calendars I'm not even sure you can call it 'filler' if it doesn't even fill the space behind the door!

I think the cape is a pretty strong contender for worst gift of the year. A least you get a few things with Lego Friends. One item behind a door is pretty cheap.
Apparently the Star Wars calendar celebrates the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi, which is why we're getting so much Endor stuff. And 20th anniversary of The Clone Wars.
Worst gift of the year. Definitely not an aspirational title but could be fun for the Christmas Eve finale.

Marvel would’ve deserved last place for sure today. They were not “cape-able” of giving us a figure with it? That’s just cheap… But HP got first place so it was a good day still 😄 … and poor Cedric 😂

Hammy deserves justice. Heartlake city’s pet food options have way more playability than a cape with no minifigure
Oh Avengers, no! At least it is red. Are we to imagine it's a cloak of invisibility and the minifigure is really there. That's all I have to say.
The chicken walker ATST looks good from Star Warrs. These mini builds are growing on me.
Yay! A Rosmerta minifigure to go with out Potter Hogsmeade theme. We deserved redemption and a goblet however I'm still hoping for a Butterbeer.
The food-stuff from Friends is cute but will it beat the cape? I doubt it.

I will put the at st above the minifigure today. I know it's controversial but I liked the build more than the minifigure who is even a repeat only with the colour of the pants switched. So Star Wars 5 points, Harry Potter 4 points, City 4 (3+1) points, Marvel 2 points, Friends 1 point. Total : City 59 points, Harry Potter 55 points, Star Wars 55 points, Friends 53 points, Marvel 50 points.
Also a big fan of the Star Wars build. On another day, that could have easily won.
I had to go and check that the Avengers one wasn't missing something. Very odd to put a cape alone and even stranger to give the cape before the figure.

I think it is because they are trying to say the minifigure is invisible.

I think Marvel is trying too hard to give us something from every Avenger. It's like the garage sale of memorabilia. Star Wars is giving us a lot of playability in the end with the Endor sets.

I figured the cloak might have some standalone purpose, but expect that would have been lost on many of the people who bought the calendar.

I almost agree with the points, only having the last two places swapped (at least there was a little bit of building required in the Friends gift...). Looks like we will get a Strange minifig tomorrow (as well as quite likely some furniture for the pub).

Friends got robbed. Yes, I agree 99% of the time. loose elements would be given last place. But thanks to that cape, this should be the exception. I am sure a lot of people give the AC's a glance to see which minifigs they will get before deciding whether or not to purchase. Probably very few who went with Marvel even floated the idea that the cape would get its own day. This might be a new low across all themes.
It seems like every advent calendar has to have a fireplace, a snowman as well as a Christmas tree.

yep, fireplace, tree, snowman and usually a santa on the 24th. All the staples of lego advent. So theres really only 20 "mystery" gifts, unless you look at the box art

Not really related to the calendars but I found it quite fun that one of the stores I went to yesterday was playing the same music as the ones you use in these videos. Also, I wonder if there will still be a surprise Harry Potter figure in the calendar, or will we be getting Malfoy on day 24?

harry potter stepped up after the disaster from yesterday
After opening mine today I knew where the friends would be. Going to say I’m seeing a little bias to Star Wars cause the standard mini builds in the Star Wars is getting far too many points. I would have got a Star Wars one but I hate the mini builds, it’s just tiny parts after advent that I’ve already got loads of and they are all grey.

Cape was a sad gift. Should have been last as it spoiled the next day. At least they could have reversed the gifts… I am so happy that HP won the day. But I don’t see him winning. I see a lot of spoilers coming up on the cover of the advent calendar picture (worst as spoilers ever). And it looks like Draco is going to be last. Sad sad sad

I think you forgot to judge the cape gift on its own merit. How are you gonna play with a cape? pet food was a decent gift for a pet themed calendar

Ahh come on 😂 we know you don’t like Friends but letting them end up behind the cape is just petty. Don’t get me wrong - both are terrible gifts, but at least Friends had a decent amount of parts. The cape should have been an accessory to a minifigure, they’re just being cheap here, also considering the Marvel calender is more expensive than the Friends one.
