    Actually, you can hit Zeon from 8 different directions! Peter from the top, Jaro and Eric from the sides with Mist Javelins, Bowie from the front, Jazin and Taya from either side of Bowie with Atlas 2, a Master Monk with Blast behind Bowie, and Slade behind her with Japanese Bolt 4. I can put Zeon down in 3 Rounds on any setting! Note, my guys are level 40s or high 30s.

      I wonder if he meant that you only fight Zeon in one place. Dark Dragon had 3 heads, but neither of them move around, iirc.

    • @bladestar2322
      @bladestar2322 Рік тому +2

      Both fights are pretty easy considering neither enemy can move. Strategy is only slightly different. In Shining Force 1 you more or less send 6 after the left head, 6 after the right head. Then double team the center head. In Shining Force 2 you just gang up on one head. I'm now at level 55 and I put Zeon down in one turn.

      Make it all 12:
      Kiwi and Skreech to the sides of Zeon if you give the Pegasus Knights Chester and Jaro a ranged weapon. Peter takes the back. 5 people on the flyer only parts. Bowie, Rick, and Slade facing Zeon. 3 people directly in front. The artillery guys Rohde, May, Elric, and Janet. 4 people on either side of Bowie.

    • @bladestar2322
      @bladestar2322 Рік тому +2

      Screech and Kiwi are useless, they won't survive the fight against Galam! And I now have Bowie at 55 and the others at 45. Only takes 1 round and Zeon doesn't get a turn! I personally call the And More Fight, 'Saving Lemon from Hell'.

    Shining Force (One) had the initial intriguing story and plot. I wrote a whole expanded lore universe fictional game world setting because of how much I loved the original. But SFII definitely has the better game mechanics and user-friendliness. (Also, I HATE the ending of SFII. I ship Bowie/Sarah. They had over FIVE YEARS to fall in love. The princess was a bimbo and Kazin was a untrustworthy womanizer.)

      @@Xero-Studios - I wouldn't want to interfere with your own fandom ideas, but to note, I also took a lot of inspiration from the Game Boy Advance re-release of Shining Force. It had some of the original story that had been cut when it was first released on the Genesis. Basically, the 'Ancients' were the same race as Domingo, peaceful people who knew how to mix Magic and Technology. In one of their 'experiments' they accidently created a negative inverse of 'Bright One' (basically, the stars in the universe are living god-beings). This 'Dark Sol' was something so violent that the Ancients didn't know how to deal with the malevolent intelligence. So the gods helped the Ancients create two new life-forms who's purpose would be to be to create the concept of War: Fighting In The Defense of What You Believe to be Right. These two 'Warmasters', Max and Kane would help the Ancients develop technology, magic and weapons to fight against the unnatural taint that was the Dark Sol, leading to the creation of new machines, robots, and eventually, a means to create the Absolute Weapon: The Chaos Breaker.
      ...And things go from there. Again, just the basics, don't want to interfere with your own ideas.

      @@MRDRK1 So it wasn't that Dark Sol, Zeon, and literally Satan had a fight for leadership and Zeon proved the strongest to lead the devils?

    • @MRDRK1
      @MRDRK1 Рік тому +4

      @@dansmith1661 - No, the Dark Sol was the 'original evil' as it were, with the 'dark dragon' being a type of body it created for itself to help it cause more destruction. The ancients managed to separate the controlling conscience of the Dark Sol from the dragon body and seal them separately, but remnants of the Dark Sol's mind splintered from the battle, with one piece escaping to pocket dimension plane to take a new bodied form (Zeon) and proceeded to spawn hoards of monsters (devils) to try to sow more destruction while trying to restore it's main mind and power. But this form was also eventually defeated and sealed.
      Took a bit of inspiration from the origin story of Aku from Samurai Jack on this.

    Shining Force 3, specifically Scenarios 1 & 3.
    I really loved SF3. The genesis SF games are good too, but they just aren't as epic as SF3. Those 32 bit graphics were just perfect, and that "Seizure Dragon" summon, aka Tiamat.
    I feel SF3 is much better than SF1/2 and pretty much all other Tactics JRP's.

      @@Alucard12456Each Scenario was a fantastic game. The main reason I put scenario 2 at the bottom was because since scenario 1&2 overlap considerably, you sort of know the plot.
      However I did enjoy the level where you defeat your first vandal in that spooky mansion. I think that was scenario 2.
      I also really loved Julian as a protagonist and importing him after scenario 1&2 really meant a lot to character building in my opinion.
      But man, that dragon summon spell in scenario 1. It almost gave me a seizure with the red and blue strobe light effect. I noticed that they toned this down in scenario 2 & 3.

    The level up stats in SF1 are either crazy or zero, which really skews with the long term usefulness of characters, especially if you promote them early and with terrible stat gains that don't make them appear powerful off the bat.
    SF2 is 1 point in everything (except Kiwi) with an occasional 2 before promotions, and more 2s or 3s after promotion usually depending on if the character uses weapons or is defense oriented. Some characters will always get certain stats like Kazin will get 3 agility as a Wizard and Chester is made of paper, but will gain tons of health and survive any single attack.

      I have a team that I've been using for 25 years. Bowie, Jaro and Eric as Pegasus Knights, Jaha and Lemon as Barons, Sarah, Karna, and Sheela as Master Monks, Peter, who's a badass, Kazin and Taya as Sorcerers. Taya isn't very popular, but she's worth it if you get her up to Neptune 2 and Atlas 2. I can take Zeon down in 3 Rounds! Sometimes lose no one, sometimes half my team. I build up a lot though, even earn levels 1 point at a time if I have to. Bowie is usually at least early 40s, everyone else mid-30s at least. That's when even the most powerful henchmen are 1-pointers.

    5:52 NITPICK WITH SPOILERS: You get a preview of Zeon at Creed's Manor when he goes into the basement to call upon the evil spirit. The hilarious thing about that is this whole plot point can be skipped by exploiting a glitch that allows you to get past the cave-in in New Granseal. When I watched a speedrunner do that, I was thinking, "he just skipped the hardest battle in the game".

    I prefer SF1 far more, it just felt like a far more serious game. The sequel felt a little dumbed down and… one big pet peeve I had for the second game was how the main character felt like he had no agency. It felt like Peter was constantly speaking for you and that quickly got on my nerves.
    I also preferred the art style of the first game more, left less cartoony and I preferred the grittier feel.
    I agree some mechanics worked better in the sequel. In terms of enemies, one of my favorite was in the first game - General Elliott, wish he showed up in more than a single battle.

      The first game has weird balancing though.
      Chapters 1, 2, and 3 have a nice difficulty curve.
      Chapters 4 and 5 are insultingly easy.
      Chapter 6 has a significant difficulty spike and the game curves nicely from there.
      Then there's Lyle, Bleu, Adam, Alef, and Torasu joining your party ridiculously underleveled.

    Really hard to put a definitive reason for me, but SF1 is just superior. While some of SF1s music is repetitive, I feel it is way stronger- SF2s music felt really campy to me until the very end- I wish they had more of those "Zion-like" tracks in the game. I think I felt a great disappointment when you finally fight Gesph, who is basically the main bad guy throughout the entire game, and they have the hokey generic battle music.
    There was just a generally "campyness" to SF2 that I couldn't shake. I felt way more invested in SF1s plot; I felt SF2 just threw a bunch of bad guys at you that didn't have a lot of reason behind why. You fight a bunch of chess pieces, a friend that turned bad- none of it really fit.
    I think a lot of it was probably the impact of the first game for my life as well. SF2 had a ton to live up to, and I just felt like they didn't do much of anything innovative. The leap from Megaman 1 to 2 was HUGE. This didn't feel like that.
    And this is an INCREDIBLY minor nitpick, but the all caps locks for the characters was weird to look at all game.

    • @Xero-Studios

      no this is totally fair. its been a year since i've made this video and I find myself having switched sides and liking the 1st one better now as well. Strangely I have no desire to replay the second one, but the first game keeps popping back up in my mind to return to.
      I do feel both for sure had their campiness to them but I can agree SF2 was more campy. on top of that the characters of sf1 I still think about, whereas the characters of sf2 I rarely do.
      I think the overall added flash and gimics had me into sf2 more. but the heart and storytelling of sf1 lasted in the long run more so then sf2

    Good comparison! If it were me, though, I'd give the point to SF1 on in-combat character sprites. Shading and detail matters less than style, and SF2's skinny-limbed goofball designs just can't match SF1 for coolness. Compare Zylo vs. Gerhalt or Max vs. Bowie: the first game's characters just look *cool* when they attack, whereas their SF2 counterparts look kind of awkward by comparison.

    Levels are more vast than shining force 1. Shining Force 2 minimum promotion level 20 and maximum promotional level 40.Level up stats are more straight forward. (less random stats growth). For leveling up style. I give Shining force 2.
    Promotional classes, I give that to Shining Force 2. Knight, priest, mage, archer, warrior have promotional options. Couple bad thing that there is slight gender gap. No male priests to promote to master monk and on female knight and pegasus knight. Would be nice if they just add a monk itself than promote to master monk.
    Enemies later on do give more damage and it could be harder later on especailly those who want to promote at level 40. I still give that to shining force 2.

    The story for SF1 is much better mainly because in SF2, the King and the main hero have the frustrating don't know or don't care look. Also in SF2, it is way much darker and it is very discomforting.
    For game balancing, SF1 is better because SF2 promotion makes a mistake. The promotion is supposed to be 30 instead of 40. However SF1 has the 0 gains per level which make it sucks.
    Characters in SF1 are actually way stronger and more memorable except for the archers. SF2 archers are stronger. Many of the SF2 characters have lower movements compared to SF1 for example, centaur archer only have 6 MV in SF2 but in SF1, there is MV7, birdmen in SF1 have 7 MV but in SF2 there is only 6 MV etc.
