Absolutely superb, that was like stepping into a time machine, what rich rich history we have!!! Fabulous presentation from Professor Bartlett. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I really am enjoying this series. Henry III has a pretty interesting story, and there’s not a whole lot on him, he wasn’t one of the flashiest Kings, for sure. But I’ve found they ALL have interesting stories. Thank you! Holy cow, I just realized that you’re one of my favorite presenters!🙈 (I usually just listen whilst I do my work, or as bedtime stories🤭). I’m so happy you’re on UA-cam! Brilliant! 👌👏
I've enjoyed Professor Bartlett's documentaries on the Normans, Plantagenets and Inside The Medieval Mind, before now. This talk on Henry III was a great listen and it's great to see that you have several lectures by this man. Many thanks The People Profiles.
45:43 1265 - Two knights come from each shire to represent the county . Plus two Burgesses come from many of the towns. Beginning of the House of Commons . Parle as in Parliament . Its in French because the nobility spoke a dialect of Aquitaine French . .
I find these videos are good companions to the documentaries, so you have two variations of a documentary. Recommended this channel to friends for a long time, I don't complain about poor TV history channels if I can still find a good documentary right here.
The albigeois crusade was mostly a massive land grabing operation to replace the local aristocracy ( The house of Toulouse, the Trencavel of Béziers and their vassals)
Excellent! I have a much better idea of the conflict between Henry & his barons, & the Provisions of Oxford, etc. I've always had a sort of metal blank about Henry, & somehow, learning more about the events of his life hasn't changed that much- I think it's cos I can't get any sense of his personality whatsoever, so clearly I have to learn more.
I have a question: Was England really named "England" at that time? So we have Counties and the Realm of the Plantagenets. In that sense, I gess we can´t name England as England a Nation...
Robert Bartlett probably feels he could make a good king or great historical figure, yet he’s likely scared of young black and Asian men he passes in the street.
An interesting insight into Henry3, but OMG, the prof's voice and demeanor brought back every college class I slept through. It's clear that he's well-versed in his knowledge, but his asides, details, and droning on and on slammed my eyes shut.
John gets such a bad tar, and I'm not saying it isn't deserved, but people forget he inherited a mess to. The beloved Richard was actually a pretty shit king. He was a great warrior, but a shit king.

Absolutely superb, that was like stepping into a time machine, what rich rich history we have!!! Fabulous presentation from Professor Bartlett. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very informative and interesting, a King we don’t hear about very much compared to the more famous dynasties. What a complicated personal life.

God, I wish I was in your history classes. You are a good storyteller.
This fellow is engaging! Dunno why, but without any graphics or razzle dazzle I'm listening all the time.
This is so wholesome and informative! Thank you for a wonderful video!
Very well explained, professor Bartlett kept this riveting throughout . His documentaries are always worth a listen

Simon: “Call parliament or you will end up like Charles the simple “
Henry III: …okay>.
Thank you, this was excellent!
Loved the presentation, always fun to learn more about my 21st Greatgrand father.
He’s probably everyone’s 21st great grandfather.

Professor B is a treasure
Fascinating to see the beginnings of present day democracy in Britain

Was he edward the longshanks father?
Yes
The albigeois crusade was mostly a massive land grabing operation to replace the local aristocracy ( The house of Toulouse, the Trencavel of Béziers and their vassals)
Very informative
….Like father, like son…..
The story about the horses and escaping is the same story on how Edward IV escaped from the earl of Warwick...... Great minds think alike I guess

Okay, I think I've got this. Thanks.
I want a poll "England (or France or both) of this period vs Mongols. Who would've won?".
What we’re gonna do is go back, way into time.
I have a question: Was England really named "England" at that time? So we have Counties and the Realm of the Plantagenets. In that sense, I gess we can´t name England as England a Nation...
Simon says put your hands on your head
Brilliant thank you 🙏
Henry III was, a very flawed ruler.
His son was far better.
The true crime girlie's would love this.
Haughenschtaffen sounds more German than Italian.
I love these but seriously can we please have some about other races of people?
Cutting up Simon de Monfort reminds me of how Richard III was curcified after his was killed in battle
I don’t think so.

Try the History Channel then. Lots of arm waving and shouting there.
Robert Bartlett is the historian's historian for this period. I attended one of his lectures many years ago and found it fascinating.
