She’s a super star to me , she can do it all , and do it well. If I had to choose a new big 3 based off consistency and talent and star power it would be Nicki Doja And Megan . I think they’ve pretty much got the whole package . I think Doja can out perform and Dojas animation also sets her apart . Even though you can tell Nicki is her inspiration Doja still sounds like Doja .. that’s how superstars are
So glad you mentioned this. Very early on I saw the Nicki influence in Doja, but she doesn’t mimic like others and it sets her apart. I def agree on the superstar thing!
@@peachberrypieI think lyrically Megan has been doing a great job of expanding her versatility especially on traumazine and her flow abilities on MEGAN that nobody wants to give credit to, however production wise I would also love for her to be more versatile if she could do all those things and maybe get a doja collab that 4th album would be perfect 💖😫 Tina Snow is my fav project from Megan fs I’d love a Tina Snow ll in the future although I think her best project is easily traumazine imo
People can say Doja is not a rapper But she can rap and is more musically talented + versatile than most of the Best female rappers in the industry. She doesn’t seem to care much about being the best rapper, as she shouldn’t.
The thing is Doja doesn't need to prove herself as a "rapper" because she's bigger than just rap. Let the one track minded folks debate about her rap skills when she's an all around versatile well rounded artist because that's what you really need to make it in this industry. Being a one trick rapping pony doesn't get you nowhere in this industry so us Doja fans are just fine with that. They can have "rap" because we know Doja is bigger than rap and they can't take that away from her. So go ahead let them debate it won't change anything....Doja is in her own lane.
Doja is a rapper, Doja is a singer, Doja is a dancer, Doja is an entertainer. Her raps aren't on the same level of raunchiness as other female rappers but she does have bars, good word play, flow, etc.
idk i think doja is pretty raunchy depending on the song, but i agree that shes like 7-10/10 across the board and she'll always be skilled. Like you said, doja is a rapper and more and i really hate when people try to dock her on talent/skill cause she has it like ppl try to say she doesnt have a pen and is always saying nothing which just isnt true
Doja Cat has always been rapper. I see her as the female Tyler the Creator where she’s not just limited to one thing. I don’t get how there are other female “rappers”who don’t even write get that title but Doja gets pushed to the side. What I like about Doja and her rap style is that she has fun with what she writes and it turns out to be a bop. There’s so much creativity and versatility while most of the other girls rap about the same thing. Not to mention most of the other girls want what she has. She not one note at all and it’s always refreshing to hear her spit into the mic no matter how silly it is. It almost reminds me of a young Nicki not from a rap perspective but from a creative one where Nicki used to show off her versatility and range. Doja deserves her flowers as rapper because there’s not a whole lot of of female rap albums that was not making as much noise as Scarlet. Let her do pop, rap, and rock because she can. Let artist be artist.
So glad that you brought up Tyler the creator 😫💖 I feel like a lot of Doja cats early music/her roots are definitely inspired by og Tyler being more of a experimental/hiphop/electronic r&b sound especially with her SoundCloud music and “purr” I wish she would’ve stuck with that sound just a little longer but she evolves as an artist and moves on from sounds and gets inspired EXTREMELY quickly wich is why she’s so versatile and why I love her so much she’s always exploring 💖 also reminds me of how bc of Igor and flower boy Tyler the creator gets categorized and compared to being a pop artist like Doja when he’s not he’s just an experimental artist 💖
Fun fact she went to a few parties around 2014/2015 with Tyler the creator and earl sweatshirt, she also once posted herself buying the vinyl for wolf 😭💖
I personally have been under the belief that she's the best female rapper right now ( of her generation) because of the immense talent that she has. It's hard to stay in one lane when you're that creative. For me the only real right round competition she has right now is Doechii. It's up to TDE to get her up there like they've done SZA & K-Dot
I feel like this new Doechii mixtape is going to be the ONE for her. I'm thinking all these Swamp Sessions tracks are gonna be on it and those videos are being shared by everyone. It will actually shift the focus to her by anyone unaware. THEN after that she can do a collab with one of the people everyone already knows and boom she'll be rightfully recognized by the masses.
Doja IS A RAPPER, just because you sing in alot of records dosnt mean you arnt a rapper. This is the same conversation that the gp had with Nicki in her Pink friday era.
@@redluv123 i mean it’s true tho, beyonce is no doubt a singer but she was rapping before any of the rap girls were even thought of and even she doesn’t get the credit she deserves for putting them onto RAP-SINGING
she has always been seen as a rapper to me, she just adds some pop and r&b elements into her music. she is extremely diversified, thats why people confused and discredited her. its also one of the reason there is so many rap tracks in scarlet.
I will admit that I was slightly disappointed with the Scarlet era initially. I didn’t like how much Doja clearly let fans, haters, and Stan culture get to her. And the era had overwhelmingly negative vibes. Still, I was quickly able to appreciate that Scarlet is probably the best and most creative female hip-hop project from a mainstream artist we’ve had for at least a couple years. And no matter what anyone has to say about Doja, she clearly ain’t going no where. Even with all the criticism and backlashes and fan divisiveness, she was still able to put out a feature-less chart stable album with a couple substantial hits, headline Coachella and have her first tour be a success. As far as the tired “real rapper” debate, there are a few female rappers from a pure lyrical standpoint I prefer (Latto definitely ain’t one of them). But no one is sounding like her and bringing her unique blend of wordplay, storytelling, flows, melody, hooks, production. I would like her next era to be both more positive and more sonically “out there”.
@@liteflightify oh srry if I didn’t understand 😅but I’m trying to say that I agree doja is talented but that’s why I didn’t like Scarlett..I just don’t think you can put out something like that with Amala being in her discography
Doja is the next thing next to Nicki Minaj. She's everything the other rap girls aren't. She's a rapper, singer, and producer. TOP 3 NICKI MINAJ DOJA CAT DOECHII
Support is money. I can no longer separate the art from the artist. I cannot fund foolishness. I irks me to no end that she is very vocal in stroking neo nazi egos and her general antics. I was here for the music, and now I can't even have fun. And it's no hate, 'cause I'm the first to admit she's very talented.
She's such an iffy person, but girl if she isn't one of the best in the game right now. This girl can dance, rap, sing, produce, AND she got a fire pen. It's a weird spot because sometimes it's hard to look past her weird antics, but she deserves all of her praise and more when it comes to being a stellar artist.
I’ve been obsess with Doja lately. I’ve been following her since early on in her career and she just keeps getting better! She’s as solid as Nicki imo. On another note I’m hoping Flo Milli starts getting more recognition cause she’s so overlooked and underrated
I think Doja HAD everything. Without all the drama surrounding her she should be the n1 female rapper. I was one of her earlier fan but the whole scarlet persona WASNT it I didnt even listen to the album because of everyhting she said. I think if she was able to dabble in both genres without degrading pop it would be just perfect... Kiss More is still one of my fav songs but I'l give Scarlet a listen. Honestly I am waiting for her next era to see if she is still denying her earlier work or if she acknowledges it and accept who she is as an artist. Truly at the end of the day the internet bullied her for nothing
Scarlet is a fantastic album her best yet imo but unfortunately she has a hard time appreciating her music and being proud of herself and what music she makes and what she comes from I’m not sure if she’s super humble or just grows out of interests very quickly or if she hates her old music bc of where she was in life like she hates purrr and amala and she said so high and go to town were awful and cheesy songs 😭😭 she said she hated amala when hot pink dropped and she said she hated planet her and hot pink when scarlet dropped and she’ll probably hate scarlet once her 5th album is released I hope she’s able to come to terms with herself as an artist and all of her work and where she’s come from and be proud of everything for the good and the “bad”
@@dojaudrey7232 I love ur pov on this ! I just downloaded the album I am going to listen to it later today ! I really think the industry and the internet did her wrong by not recognizing her as a rapper like Nicki was (going from pop to rap and etc). She always had a genius way of making music (Doja) and sadly as an artist myself you do usually hate your earlier work. But there's always a point where you accept it and cherish it (exemple Ariana Grande who couldn't even feel happy when listening to like Break Free). If she takes time for herself I am sure she is going to revisit her work and finally in her 5th studio album accept herself. Obvi she does whatever she wants but fun bubbly songs with rap isn't always bad. We are in a point in female rap where only a few don't make twerk anthems or hood music(Doechii my queen is the exception). I am hyped to See what Doja got
Milk is so amazing 😩 I think her verse from cannibal tho from 2013 is top 5 rap verses she ever did from the rhyme to the flow to the lyrics they’re all chefs kiss 😩💋 now her absolute best rap verse is definitely from woman
Now that we do see so much more of her I think it's in between, she feels alternative in a way but not a rock way. She does what she wants from now on hopefully
i view her as sort of the female rapper lane nicki paved. to make female rap in a way that it’s not hyper personal. so it can become more mainstream and stuff. like i think she will be viewed as a female rapper who paved the way for female rappers to just have fun. bc the lil kim/nicki/iggy era brought talking your shit and being the best. but i respect doja for not doing that and just doing her own thing. and i think that is what future female rappers will copy from her. more her business moves and stuff opposed to lyrics. i don’t think doja really wants to be like a rapping super hard with all these flows and shit on a beat. i think she wants to make music that makes her happy and be taken seriously as a female rapper.
Doja and doechii are some of the most talented female rappers when it comes to singing I think the reason Doja isn’t viewed as a rapper is cause like Doja doesn’t compare when it comes to like cardi lines, or like Nicki lines or Megan lines but she is defiantly a rapper in my eyes and I think doja will defiantly start to do more rap stuff which I kind of am sad abt ): but atleast we have doechii
I feel like I love her artistry and talent but sometimes in someways when it comes to rap and her personality and the people she seems to relate to more naturally her being a rapper feels like cosplay. It’s like I almost don’t feel like she truly likes being black for some reason… I don’t think it may be her fault though. Mixed people have are raised complicated sometimes from childhood. I don’t think she should have to but I would like it if she can really introduce her blackness to the world if she has blackness but if she doesn’t I don’t want her to lie about it. I want her to be unapologetically herself and heal from that if there is something she needs to heal from . Be herself would be the blackest thing she could do to me. She’s like a theater kid… but so was Nicki… but Nicki’s essence is blackness. Dojas I feel is not. I feel like I can tell she’s a black kid raised by white people… but I want her to stand on that if I’m right and don’t get offended when black people disrespect and diminish her blackness and instead give black people in the world to catch up to her because black people have alot of healing to do as well. I just don’t want her to push us away because we offend her with our analyzations because In the end no matter what She IS Half Black.. but she Also Half White. Dont let the world split you in 2 and tear you apart… but also forgive and don’t hate them because they try to make you prove a side . No need to be Jaded when your Doja. Just have to except and love being Doja. Mixed NEW BREED
@@ElaineSade I said “IF SHE HAS IT”. Anyone who has blackness I assume would know what I am speaking about. Introducing your Blackness is kinda like what Beyonce did in the formation era… she reminded the whole world she was black. Do you remember the skits on snl about it..? The viral conversations about Beyonce introducing her blackness? Please try to keep up. Dont pick apart what I said and ask questions on just the part you picked out because it won’t make sense. Read the whole thing use your brain and then you may get it. If not then maybe I’m saying it wrong … or maybe you just don’t I’m wrong period. The point is for her to be unapologetically herself.
@@RayJamil my question wasn’t an attempt to pick apart your comment I’m genuinely curious. The word introduce may be throwing me off a bit. The words “Empower” or “display” make more sense in this context, if I’m understanding correctly. Reading your initial comment felt like I was reading one long train of thought. I’m only trying to make sense of it 😕
@@ElaineSade so you do understand? Anywho… honestly I do think I mean introduce because it’s more blatant and “matterfact” because I have dealt with type of issue myself. Empower and display seems performative. Introduce feels like “Here Iam.. Nice to meet you.. ok Bye back to doing me” (Hope that explains better)
Because she’s so versatile, she’s her own kind of artist entirely. I believe she can do any genre of music outside of rap or pop if she wanted to. Also have to bring up the fact how she can body her own songs without a feature yet is a great feature on other artists songs. The music videos are always creative and visually appealing. She an everything kind of artist which is why people struggle having a category for her. I love artists who are music chameleons. I commend her on always shaking things up and doing the unexpected.
Doja is one of her few remaining creative talents left. She makes her music and mind her business. When she feel people too much in her life she find a way to get cancelled but will still drop a banger. The definition of an Artist that can’t be controlled 💖
As a person, meh BUT what good artist isn’t insane? She’s incredibly under appreciated when it comes to how talented she actually is. She can dance, come up with GOOD harmonies (Brian Wilson ass shit), uses her voice as an actual instrument, good songwriting, good dancer, wakes up a crowd like it’s nothing… and she’s been pretty good since she first hit the scene 😭 She’s popular but insanely talented and deserves wayyyy more recognition for her ability to write, rap, and perform. She’s an ARTIST. Love her music, aesthetic, and the art she gives us, even when she’s being problematic and annoying. She’s an icon in my eyes and I hope she sticks around.
I’ve been a Doja cat fan for yearssssssss. I’ve always considered her as a singer and a rapper! I understand why people don’t wanna view her as a rapper. But let’s be real! She’s a multi talented artist! She’s a rapper and a singer! I hate the backlash she gets because he’s a GREAT artist
People hate on doja cause shes in her own lane and does it veryyyyyy well I respect doja as an artist I kinda side eye her a bit cause of things but she's cool on my list
She's not a full time rapper nor full time pop artist She's a pop rapper Songs like Agora Hills explains Doja genre, Sings in the hook and raps in the verse Pop rap is the genre I can say doja is queen off
Wrong. She can rap. She only did the pop shit as a cashgrab and now is really rapping. She did rap songs like tia tamera and Rules b4 slowly entering her pop era. To answer ur question of why shes "ashamed"...shes annoyed not ashame. You must've never seen her look so pissed n annoyed when having to perform SaySo 100 times! Thats why she wants to prove she can rap too n not only make cashgrab pop songs.Hope this helps!
@@cami_wsgat this point everyone and their momma is a rapper. Those “cash grabs” paid her bills and made her songs chart. I tried listen to her “rap” song… she should stick to pop music that occasionally raps.
@@Ladyfloats Never heard them rap b4 but tbh i think ppl dont accept her bc shes not black enough to them...Maybe if she was like Flo mili or Meg then ppl would take her serious. She can rlly rap n sing idk why she cant do both n still please/entertain ppl. Everyone has to complain abt smth, had she not changed...ppl would've complained regardless lets be honest there's nothing u can rlly do to meet an audience standards. :/
Doja Cat to me is beyond a rapper but a ARTIST. And a lot of people don’t want to admit that but in performances and lyrical content no one is touching her in the rap game and even in pop.
She’s not there yet. I think if she never did this evil witch/devil stuff the industry and the people would be more open to her. On top of this she is a THREAT so she will have a very very hard time gaining respect. She’s a rapper she started off as such and will always be. People aren’t ready for a new rap sound, they did this to Kanye too. Now look at him.
Doja Cat is very multi talented but I do believe that her most exceptional skills lie within her rapping ability. Secondly her genius lives in her ability to produce with fun harmonies and add adlibs that tightly elevate her rapping. I think her aesthetics and her dancing and humor and personality are very good marketing for her rap abilities but her rap abilities are 100% the thing that makes her exceptional and not just some popstar with good taste. let’s not forget that when she dropped rules she was being compared to Kendrick Lamar because of her ability to flow and ooze personality. You don’t just get compared to Kendrick Lamar if you’re not a rapper.
as a long time fan i remember doja complaining her first album Amala being put in the RNB category and insisting that she is a rapper.. i consider her a rapper bc thats what she consider's herself and im not under the myopic impression that rap is devoid of nuance and creativity.. to be an artist is not to divorce one's self from rap
Not to compare but to be fair. Nicki Minaj was in pop for years on end and we looked at her the same way we're looking at doja. I understand her mistakes and all that she did with gucci but as soon as she made it out of that she went straight to pop with super bass and from there it took off for years, Doja cat... Her lyrical ability Her versatility and her artistry alone is more than enough. Like Tyler said, we need more artists to be passionate about this craft. That we call a hip-hop, cause not enough people are taking it As Serious anymore because of the people we're allowing The record labels to put in our face. In my opinion.
She will be among the most celebrated new female pop stars in recent years. He is one pitch above her counterparts. And the best thing about her is that she is not lazy. If she is making a song. She make sure to give her hardwork, not those 1.5 minutes jingle (where half of the song is just beats
Idk what she is tbh I really don’t listen not cause she ain’t talented but because I firmly stand against the whole chat rooms with nazis stuff I respect the hell out of her pen tho she has great songs and verses but I can’t listen to nothing without thinking about the idea she might not really like black people or black culture frfr
I think she’s one the best rapper we’ve had in a while. I also feel like with Doja. She doesn’t really take it as serious and I feel like if she did take it as serious she’ll be in these rap beefs and who said this and who said that but I feel like because she is a rapper who sorta kinda knows her place and knows her lane. She just raps and found a middle ground but if she does take it seriously I think the conversation will switch.
To me, Doja is very balanced as an artist and is strong in all three areas (singing, dancing, rapping). Ironically, I think that because she's a well-rounded, hybrid talent that she sometimes gets overlooked in conversations that concentrate on a specific talent. For example, I watched a channel discussing girls in pop who can dance. Normani, Victoria Monet, Tinashe, and Chloe Bailey were discussed and compared. Doja was brought up peripherally and praised for her ability but wasn"t included in that core conversation. She also gets left out of singing conversations, and I have heard people downplay her as a rapper. I would be interested to see if Doja can act. If so, she should follow the route of JHud, Fantasia, and Lady Gaga and put herself in EGOT contention.
Some of the people doesn’t want to call her or label her as a rapper cuz Doja isn’t relying only on her rap skills but also her vocal abilities and her exquisite performances. It’s rare for a female rapper to be like that, that’s why people aren’t claiming her, well I don’t want to call her a rapper cuz she’s an Artist (rap, sing, creative, produce her own music and a performer). I hope her and Doechii will do a collab cuz i’m a sucker for it.
You cant be one foot in, one foot out and be mad when you dont get credit. Doechii is similar to doja in many ways but is unmistakably a RAPPER first. Doja is an artist who can rap but i think its time to leave her out that convo.
People said the same thing about Nicki during the Roman Reloaded era, even after rapping on every track she did - so has Doja, every "pop" record everyone claims is solely pop, Doja is rapping on every single one!
I feel she is more of a rapper who has a lot of pop music or very hip hop to me. She can do it all and perform. I hate to see when other rap performers are talked over doja when they can't hold a candle to her in categories of rap, flows, performace, production, album eras, and visuals.
Doja SHOULD be the face of female hip hop. She’s pretty much got the entire package and isn’t limited in subject matter or beholden to ghost writers. Her biggest issue has been some problematic things she’s done or involved herself in.
The Big 3 Is Nicki Doja and Meg idgaf what anyone says Nicki is The Queen and Meg and Doja are her daughters aka the princesses 👑✨💛💖Unfortunately Meg got some mommy issues 😔💔…
THE FACT THAT SHE DOESN'T"T UNDERSTAND THE TERM MOTHER , Is so strange. She is a person who creates music. She BIRTHS sh*t into the world. If You skimmed anything on psychology, It's understandable that this term has become popular. PEOPLE FEEL LIKE her music gives them what they need. She said in an interview that she thought it was a term of subservience to her fans and others. That's a big disconnect. There is negativity thrown at her but Her focusing on it, mixed with her "sense Of humor" getting her in trouble Creates this obvious pattern of disconnect. Her music may not be for other people at all and it has everything to do with her soul journey but it has an effect. We are all connected. I remember there was a time where katy perry made fun of lady gaga for being to loving/warm/nice to her "little monsters". I guess katy thought that It's fake, which makes sense with her current state. Lady gaga may not be perfect , but she tried to connect to the world and made a bigger impact. It's understandable to snap and not be nice, she(doja) is in a unique intense situation. People say she's allowed to be mean, Not educate herself, and say whatever she wants But I think It would make her more powerful if she became more Aware and connected. She probably wont have any long term cultural/societal impact if she doesn't understand How to handle this gracefully yet. Kendrick Lamar may not be graceful all the time but You can Tell he knows , I am me but I am also connected to everyone else. I'm a fan of her , she is a star. SO TALENTED !!! And I have critical thinking skills too , I am aware that people I like have flaws.
Doja is clearly in the middle but it seems to bother her that she isn't taken seriously as a Emcee she's one of the most successful singers/ rappers from California and she's not even in the conversation I never heard any hip-hop artists mention her from her State.
Doja is a very under appreciated artist, people see music is such black and white, like god forbid a queen dips her toes in rap and pop alike. People are mad they don’t have her versatility, and call me kitten or Stan, but I personally think Scarlet2Claude, completely beat Magen’s newest album (who currently is hailed as the queen of rap) in terms of sound, and imo Doja clears most modern female rappers, with the only competition I see being Megan (btw no shade to Megan, I love her music and she’s amazing I just like doja more.) Doja’s entire new album is amazing and shows a side of her we rarely get to see, tracks like, acknowledge me, OKLOSER, gun, shutcho, and omg the peak of her album Skull and Bones, are the best songs out there as of now… TLDR, people love to hate, and they’re jealous of ability to master two ceperate genre’s of music, it’s just a shame that pop is so hated because it’s considered ‘normie’ or ‘vanilla’ like rap artist be acting like those pretentious classic music nerds who hate keep their music and act like other music is trash… please
Scarlet was better than some rap releases we got from other women in the game this year for sure and that's why she deserves her flowers. When they do pop, it's seen as a cash grab and not always well received. Doja excelled at pop AND excelled at rap AFTER that. They can't say that and that's what separates her from them. Also, I've never heard people say Doja "sounds the same"
I don’t think she has to choose or fit in any one box. She can be both a rapper and a pop artist and she can probably evolve to other genres too. And for the record, I don’t expect she’ll have “cultural impact” either (6:17) because she’s not trying to.
2 Reasons why she’s not seen as one: 1) she’s not a great/good rapper, like let keep it real I generally feel like you aren’t a true hip-hop/rap fans if you actually think the girl is a great rapper, being a lyrical rapper means you are not just great at rap lyrical technical aspects (metaphors, punchlines, wordplay, double entrendes, storytelling) but being great at that those things and saying something and/or multiple things that are compelling, entertaining, thought provoking, etc, you’re proving a point. Doja’s consistent good rap skills is her flow, everything else is below average or straight bad, Scarlet proved this in particular like she was doing her best at being serious but all it proved is she’s can’t be, I mean literally compare her rap skills to the best female rappers of this generation like Megan thee stallion, Latto, little simz, Tierra whack, flo milli, doechii, noname, etc and you will see how badly overhyped/overrated she’s been placed on 2) she’s a pop artist, Doja is a rapper but she’s not a hip hop based music artist, she’s a pop artist, the thing is pop music itself isn’t a genre the same way rap/hip hop, country, reggae, jazz, rock, R&B, gospel etc are undeniable distinctive genres, pop music is more of a concept where you make music that is trendy or popular and make it patable to a mainstream audience. For example, look at how Ariana grande did her albums sweenter, thank u next and positions, at the time trap music, alt-R&B and indie pop were dominating the charts and streaming playlists, she incorporated those sounds into her music, does that mean we start putting Ariana as a trap artist or even a R&B artist? HELL NO 😂. Doja, she fits the same bill for sure, through each of her records she’s undeniably a pop artist and there’s nothing wrong with it but if you want to put her in the rapper category for that, then you might as well put post Malone, kid laori and lil nas x in the same category with 21 savage, lil Uzi vert, JID, NLE choppa, if we’re gonna go there. Add that to the fact that she’s not a great/good rapper, at this point you start to boil down the fact that Doja is a pop rapper or a pop singer who raps. If we’re gonna keep it real, I feel folks only put Doja in this place bc they want a patable girl who blur the lines between making digestible pop music and being a easy, average lyrical rapper, people put her on a pedestal bc of her “versatility” which anyone who truly love pop music knows that the key element to being a main pop girlie there are plenty of legit female rappers who experiment hip hop with different sounds, genres and styles while maintaining their roots to hip hop (ex: neneh cherry, M.I.A., little simz, azealia banks, Nicki Minaj, doechii, Angel haze), not to mention I feel colorism plays a factor to why there’s such a push to make Doja be seen as this queen of rap successor bc lizzo is no different than Doja but I don’t see folks pushing for truth hurts and about damn time as rap songs, in fact the minute it was suggested lizzo was a rapper everyone came together to it known she’s ain’t a rapper and that’s she’s just as much of a pop star as Ariana grande, she’s not given that privilege to play the duality of it the way Doja is given. I feel with Doja folks just need to be honest on her
Can you pin UA-cam comments? You gave the OP a direct and clear view as to why Doja isn’t perceived as a rapper and I can go deeper and say that she has zero connection to the black community which makes it hard to believe that her rapping is authentic. Doesn’t go to any black spaces ,nor does she date black men, and she has no black relatives that she actually know, but yet she has a whole song titled “N words ain’t ish” and black content creators, especially female ones like refuse to dive into this because they like you said, want to like her so badly because she gives them digestible pop rap music. VERY strange
you said alot, however you’ve said everything i don’t have the energy to say.. well said ! in my eyes i think this is obvious however people really have watered down the term RAP & now we gotta sit an explain what a rapper is. shits crazy. by the peoples logic, chris brown is considered a rapper then. lmao wtf
@@oracleoflinoori 100% agree I feel it started with cardi b when she admitted to not writing her raps and not wanting to take the genre seriously and it’s been a domino effect since, I feel people particularly downplay the meaning of rap among black/mixed with black female rappers bc they still see it as a niche subgenre when it’s not actually lol, they don’t want to challenge the preconceived notion of rap music being seen as a man’s sports when in reality when you look at history of hip hop, it’s never been a man’s sports, black women have always major pioneers to the genre and overall culture just as much as black men have,
Doja Minaj, Doja Lamar, Doja Badu, Doja Em… which one will she be… since people constantly place her behind Nicki. Even tho Nicki clearly said and this is very true( between me and them it’s a GAP) Nicki is a rapper that can do pop. Doja is a singer that DOES rap. And I hate how people overlook the backlash a rapper got for doing pop and opening doors for artist like Doja to be artistically expressive.

@@OGseoulite I’m pretty sure they’re talking to the people who downplay Doja’s craft.
I can’t wait until her next era. Her rhymes on the deluxe version of Scarlet were great
Omg same! She goes all out with her eras and themes. I love it.
She’s a super star to me , she can do it all , and do it well. If I had to choose a new big 3 based off consistency and talent and star power it would be
Nicki
Doja
And Megan .
Totally agree, only thing about Meg, she isn't as versatile as the other two, but her rapping abilities are in line with Nick and Doja.
@@peachberrypie agreed meg needs to work on the versatility
Love the nicki influence so much, like you said she still sounds like herself and the ryhmes are her own ideas
Okay, period! 💯
Doja is a rapper, Doja is a singer, Doja is a dancer, Doja is an entertainer.
Her raps aren't on the same level of raunchiness as other female rappers but she does have bars, good word play, flow, etc.
Have you listened to Cyber Sex 💀
idk i think doja is pretty raunchy depending on the song, but i agree that shes like 7-10/10 across the board and she'll always be skilled. Like you said, doja is a rapper and more and i really hate when people try to dock her on talent/skill cause she has it
like ppl try to say she doesnt have a pen and is always saying nothing which just isnt true
Tyler the creator was also spotted dancing and bopping around at Coachella when Doja was performing balut 😫💖
Well-stated 🎉
@@paulbarnes8732 yep, hopefully
Doja IS A RAPPER, just because you sing in alot of records dosnt mean you arnt a rapper. This is the same conversation that the gp had with Nicki in her Pink friday era.
i wouldn't put doja in any category, she's just an overall artist to me.
People sleep on Doja. She does it all! D3mons got layers to it! She's an all around performer😌
Cyber S3ggs was my first intro to her 🤣
Cyber used to be everywhereee on the internet. 😂 I miss that era.
Hot Pink was her best album. Idc if she hates it 💯
Deluxe Scarlet was really good. I don't get why people hate that album. Doja is a rapper. If Beyonce is a rapper. Doja is too. 😂
Beyoncé the rapper 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 oh god no please no one feed that into an AI machine
That’s how I see her. She plays with so many sounds that people assume she is everything but rap. Scarlet was very rap.
@@tripleohceeyay thanks for replying me!
Lawd I’m glad I’m not the only one…this era was underwhelming but the visuals are good

TOP 3
NICKI MINAJ
DOJA CAT
DOECHII
I loveee your top 3. We don’t talk about Doechii enough!
You hit the nail on the head w. She’s a rapper who makes pop music for fun. That’s how I’ve always seen her, kind of in that alternative rapper lane
So glad you said this. We’re deep in the era of pushing antics to the side while still supporting celebs and artists.
It's weird to me that people think that the doja cat isn't a rapper, but ice spice is.
I’ve been obsess with Doja lately. I’ve been following her since early on in her career and she just keeps getting better! She’s as solid as Nicki imo. On another note I’m hoping Flo Milli starts getting more recognition cause she’s so overlooked and underrated
People just hate versatility! Putting people in a box is more comfortable 😊
Doja to me is like the modern Missy. Versatile, electric, creative af and highly talented. I can see her getting her true flowers much later

I got introduced to Doja via Moo, then Tia and Tamara and Amala… and she’s always been a rapper to me
Doja and doechii are some of the most talented female rappers when it comes to singing I think the reason Doja isn’t viewed as a rapper is cause like Doja doesn’t compare when it comes to like cardi lines, or like Nicki lines or Megan lines but she is defiantly a rapper in my eyes and I think doja will defiantly start to do more rap stuff which I kind of am sad abt ): but atleast we have doechii
I can’t wait to see dojas new music further though
She’s literally the BEST mainstream female rapper she’s just not particularly accepted in “the culture” because of her past
Scarlet is one of my favorite rap albums of the 2020s
DOJA IS THE MOTHERRRR 🔥🔥🔥✨✨😭
Doja isolates herself from the black community so we give her the same energy. It’s that simple
Doja is my queen of rap, the most streamed album by a female rapper she deserves it
I feel like I love her artistry and talent but sometimes in someways when it comes to rap and her personality and the people she seems to relate to more naturally her being a rapper feels like cosplay.
Omggg you really summarized what I’ve been noticing for quite some time
How can one introduce their blackness to the world?
@@ElaineSade I said “IF SHE HAS IT”. Anyone who has blackness I assume would know what I am speaking about.
Nice to meet you.. ok Bye back to doing me” (Hope that explains better)
she's already on the way to DC5 and we're excited!
Okloser and acknowledge me are on repeat for me. Her bars are unmatched 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
I’m sorry but her bars were weak this album
Doja is one of her few remaining creative talents left. She makes her music and mind her business. When she feel people too much in her life she find a way to get cancelled but will still drop a banger. The definition of an Artist that can’t be controlled 💖
As a person, meh BUT what good artist isn’t insane? She’s incredibly under appreciated when it comes to how talented she actually is. She can dance, come up with GOOD harmonies (Brian Wilson ass shit), uses her voice as an actual instrument, good songwriting, good dancer, wakes up a crowd like it’s nothing… and she’s been pretty good since she first hit the scene 😭
She’s popular but insanely talented and deserves wayyyy more recognition for her ability to write, rap, and perform. She’s an ARTIST. Love her music, aesthetic, and the art she gives us, even when she’s being problematic and annoying. She’s an icon in my eyes and I hope she sticks around.
Ever since Attention, she’s a rapper and a pop star to me.
Shes a beautiful half black queen 👑 and she is talent she is the bar

Doja Cat to me is beyond a rapper but a ARTIST. And a lot of people don’t want to admit that but in performances and lyrical content no one is touching her in the rap game and even in pop.
I view her as a versatile artist which includes being a rapper
She’s not there yet. I think if she never did this evil witch/devil stuff the industry and the people would be more open to her. On top of this she is a THREAT so she will have a very very hard time gaining respect. She’s a rapper she started off as such and will always be. People aren’t ready for a new rap sound, they did this to Kanye too. Now look at him.
Doja knows absolutely everything but she not a main singer, rapper or performer in the specific categories, for example in kpop she's the center
Jack of all Trades in my opinion
She can even paint and create
Not to compare but to be fair. Nicki Minaj was in pop for years on end and we looked at her the same way we're looking at doja. I understand her mistakes and all that she did with gucci but as soon as she made it out of that she went straight to pop with super bass and from there it took off for years, Doja cat... Her lyrical ability Her versatility and her artistry alone is more than enough. Like Tyler said, we need more artists to be passionate about this craft. That we call a hip-hop, cause not enough people are taking it As Serious anymore because of the people we're allowing The record labels to put in our face.
In my opinion.
exactly 💯💯
She is my favorite female rapper tbh
Scarlet was okay-good, but I feel like not enough people have talked about Claude. I thought those songs were amazing
She will be among the most celebrated new female pop stars in recent years.
He is one pitch above her counterparts.
And the best thing about her is that she is not lazy.
If she is making a song.
She make sure to give her hardwork, not those 1.5 minutes jingle (where half of the song is just beats
Doja cat got a actor who’s about to potentially get his first Oscar next year …my sister has leveled it up dc5 is gonna do it
Idk what she is tbh I really don’t listen not cause she ain’t talented but because I firmly stand against the whole chat rooms with nazis stuff I respect the hell out of her pen tho she has great songs and verses but I can’t listen to nothing without thinking about the idea she might not really like black people or black culture frfr
Doja is an artist who can rap but i think its time to leave her out that convo.
her lyrics are so witty on her song cyber sex lmfaoo so funny i love her prob my fav female rapper/ artist

She’s a multitalented rapper
What Doja cat is for the rap girls is what Gaga was for the pop girls…it just wasn’t seen before.
Doja is the definition of a music artist
I think Doja is in between. She’s one of the most versatile rappers. Also a great performer. Scarlet grew on me & I appreciate it much more now.
Doja cat is really versatile when it comes to her music so it’s hard to say
Doja SHOULD be the face of female hip hop. She’s pretty much got the entire package and isn’t limited in subject matter or beholden to ghost writers. Her biggest issue has been some problematic things she’s done or involved herself in.
I think a lot of people stopped rocking w her bc isn't she a notsee??

Doja can rap
@@cami_wsg but yet she’s not a rapper. Being able to rap sometimes don’t make you a rapper
Doja is clearly in the middle but it seems to bother her that she isn't taken seriously as a Emcee she's one of the most successful singers/ rappers from California and she's not even in the conversation I never heard any hip-hop artists mention her from her State.
She’s also a fashion trendsetter
She is an artist
Doja is a very under appreciated artist, people see music is such black and white, like god forbid a queen dips her toes in rap and pop alike. People are mad they don’t have her versatility, and call me kitten or Stan, but I personally think Scarlet2Claude, completely beat Magen’s newest album (who currently is hailed as the queen of rap) in terms of sound, and imo Doja clears most modern female rappers, with the only competition I see being Megan (btw no shade to Megan, I love her music and she’s amazing I just like doja more.) Doja’s entire new album is amazing and shows a side of her we rarely get to see, tracks like, acknowledge me, OKLOSER, gun, shutcho, and omg the peak of her album Skull and Bones, are the best songs out there as of now…
TLDR, people love to hate, and they’re jealous of ability to master two ceperate genre’s of music, it’s just a shame that pop is so hated because it’s considered ‘normie’ or ‘vanilla’ like rap artist be acting like those pretentious classic music nerds who hate keep their music and act like other music is trash… please
whattt pithfork ranked scarlet a 5.9 but gave miss poopy a 7.6 ???
Shes definitely in the middle i acknowledge her as both either way shes undeniable.she that girl
Doja is a rapper ❤
she’s an artist so glad we got to talk about the thing about doja
2 Reasons why she’s not seen as one:
1) she’s not a great/good rapper, like let keep it real I generally feel like you aren’t a true hip-hop/rap fans if you actually think the girl is a great rapper, being a lyrical rapper means you are not just great at rap lyrical technical aspects (metaphors, punchlines, wordplay, double entrendes, storytelling) but being great at that those things and saying something and/or multiple things that are compelling, entertaining, thought provoking, etc, you’re proving a point. Doja’s consistent good rap skills is her flow, everything else is below average or straight bad, Scarlet proved this in particular like she was doing her best at being serious but all it proved is she’s can’t be, I mean literally compare her rap skills to the best female rappers of this generation like Megan thee stallion, Latto, little simz, Tierra whack, flo milli, doechii, noname, etc and you will see how badly overhyped/overrated she’s been placed on
2) she’s a pop artist, Doja is a rapper but she’s not a hip hop based music artist, she’s a pop artist, the thing is pop music itself isn’t a genre the same way rap/hip hop, country, reggae, jazz, rock, R&B, gospel etc are undeniable distinctive genres, pop music is more of a concept where you make music that is trendy or popular and make it patable to a mainstream audience.
VERY strange
you said alot, however you’ve said everything i don’t have the energy to say.. well said ! in my eyes i think this is obvious however people really have watered down the term RAP & now we gotta sit an explain what a rapper is. shits crazy. by the peoples logic, chris brown is considered a rapper then. lmao wtf
@@lynnpear20right I forgot to mention her connection to black culture as a contributing factor thanks for pointing that out
@@oracleoflinoori 100% agree I feel it started with cardi b when she admitted to not writing her raps and not wanting to take the genre seriously and it’s been a domino effect since, I feel people particularly downplay the meaning of rap among black/mixed with black female rappers bc they still see it as a niche subgenre when it’s not actually lol, they don’t want to challenge the preconceived notion of rap music being seen as a man’s sports when in reality when you look at history of hip hop, it’s never been a man’s sports, black women have always major pioneers to the genre and overall culture just as much as black men have,
@@Kevin-rg3yc literally hitting the nail on the head🎯, this has all become one sorry ass money grab
But people think Lizzos a rapper 🙄
They don't call her a rapper either don't act like she wasn't on social media getting mad cause people didn't want her in the female rap categories
@@crazymtfcrazyblue3142 I didn’t ask you
Doja Minaj, Doja Lamar, Doja Badu, Doja Em… which one will she be… since people constantly place her behind Nicki.
Nicki minaj stans try not being annoying and put down any female rapper that isn’t her: impossible challenge
Not Doja Lamarrrr😩
@@pizzadogmaI’m a hip hop stan. But a Nicki Minaj hater will reveal themselves EVERYtime
Doja Cat is a great artist
She did what Nikki has been trying to do. Sing, rap and make great music.
Doja is a truly unique artist compared to everyone else
@@lynnpear20girl just say u love nicki, u think any criticism is hate and that shows u are a stan. I really only call out her stans because they,re annoying. They want everyone to be grateful to nicki and if they dont succeed its always has to do with their ties to nicki
That girl is a rapper with alot of pop hits which she raps on…if her hits were rock genre we wouldnt be calling her a rockstar star now would we!!! Come on people…
I hate to bring Nicki into this but when I seen Nicki do pop i said to myself this is rapper that can do the hip hop and toe to toe with the men but she can also do the pop music and it feels natural with Doja I look at her as an artist but I don’t like her straight up rapping I prefer her rapping over a pop beat with a catchy chorus
I just consider her an actual ART-ist! She can do it all it's more so about the ART of the music with her not much the category it falls in.
