Thanks for this. Just followed your guide to replace the breaks on my boyfriend’s car. Very well explained and easy to follow.

I always need to take the cover off the brake fluid reservoir, to be able to compress the piston. Compress it slowly, otherwise it may shoot the fluid out.

More torque specs would be nice. I think lug nuts are 80ft lbs

What causes the front brakes to shudder as you depress the brake pedal going down a steep hill? My Nissan is a 2016 with about 50,000 miles on it. I reckon the pads need to be replaced? Thanks for your great tutorial video!

Probably warped rotors. I believe it almost always makes sense to replace the rotors at the same time as the pads.

I use Silicone paste instead - a lot of other greases break down the rubber boots.

A good choice for lubricating brake caliper pins is a synthetic grease that is specifically designed for brakes. It should also say it is safe for all brake hardware rubber. Such greases are formulated to have a high melting point, low volatility, and good lubricating properties. Some popular brands of brake caliper grease include: Permatex Ultra Disc Brake Caliper Lube, CRC Brake and Caliper Synthetic Grease, AGS SIL-Glyde Brake Lubricant, Super Lube Silicone Lubricating Brake Grease.

can I just change the brake pads and keep using the same rotors?

You'll need to bring the rotor to get resurface to local auto shop like orielly. Purpose is to have even surface before you put new pads on. If your car still new then you can use digital caliper to check thickness of rotor and check for round thickness .

As darkside206 said, get them resurfaced, also known as "turned." If you don't, you'll greatly reduce the life of the pads from what I understand.

Yoou often can if the brakes were working well & not pulsating, but you''l have to take the rust lip off the edges of the rotor where the pads don't rub or you won't fit the new pads in. This will take either a wire brush on a drill or possibly a grinding stone. Many also sand the rotor surfaces to break the glaze.

You can get them turned or just keep padding. After you pad a time or two you'll see how super easy it is and pads aren't expensive. You'll know after padding if or not your rotors need replaced by how they feel.
