I was there!! 😍
Incredible and anthologic representation... Rebeka and Tezier at the summit of thais in a wonderful staging... All is available on French TV website for free, with VPN
Une très grande Thaïs ! Avec un merveilleux baryton Ludovic Tézier. Du grand art.🥰
Can’t wait to hear her live again.
Without entering the questions of belief factually "Thaïs" deals with topics still very much present in our societies -if not more - such as fanatism, fear of getting old, fear of death.. ; milestone production of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. Marina Rebeka and Ludovic Tézier are just marvelous singers and actors as well the "Nicias" of Jean-François Borras and all the protagonists of these remarkable performances.
Fantastic flight of fancy! Both so intense😢❤️!🙏
For the ones who have not seen this opera, the link is in another post just below. The entire video...
I was in Monte Carlo to see it on January, and I finished crying at the end... Rebeka, Tezier and Borras great interpretations!
Another surprise. She is delightful. Wonderful in fact. Thank you.
She is fantastic!
What a beautiful opera by Massenet. Thais plot is based on Anatole France ‘s novel; who finished it during his stay at Buenos Aires City at Argentina.
I read the novel and is so emotional as the opera
💖🌺♥️🌷❤️
Magnifique interprétation d'un rôle si difficile.Mais ici justice lui est rendu ,tant vocalement que sceniquement .
Stunning! So often, "director's concept" is a forced superimposition on the music and drama, but here, it works beautifully, especially with the spectacular singing and Tézier's acting.
Both Marina Rebeka and Ludovic Thézier's singing and acting were exceptional indeed.
Wow!!!! ♥️♥️♥️
indeed!!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
According to the score, it only ascends to D6 from B6 unless she transposed it. Still, excellent singing.
Oui je crois que cela monte jusqu'au contre ré mais pas au mi bémol .
The Eb is in the laugh I think
First!
For me her best role.
May be for you, but it is only one of her numerous great roles.
For me not, she is wonderfull in Thais, but I think she is even greater in Maria Stuarda or Anna Bolena, and as good in Norma
@@davidgray5964 She just has such a cool. languid temperament, for me I need more fire in the Italian roles. But in French repertoire, her temperament matches the vocal ability. Obviously everyone will have their own preferences, which is why I said "for me"!
@@greatmomentsofopera7170 I heard and saw her in Donizetti queens rôles and I think she has the personality for powerful ladies, or character like Norma. But it's only my feeling of it, I surely don't have your culture of all the past performers in the past
@@greatmomentsofopera7170 Marina Rebeka a " cool, languid temperament"!! LOL. Vous plaisantez j'espère!! 😏
Absolutely wonderful. Where was this?
In Monte Carlo, four représentations in January 2021... You can see the entire opera on a link somewhere here in a post. Or see many arias on UA-cam, the most famous moments. Just put Thais Rebeka Monte Carlo
@@davidgray5964 awesome! Thank you!
I was in the theater there at the second show... It was extraordinary
@@davidgray5964 I can only imagine!
@@operaloversabater3690 watch it and hear the public reaction at the end 😍
I think she is at her very best in French Romantic rep :) I would love to hear her sing Esclarmonde... I think she could pull it off :)
a la dame Joan where she sings it in Turandot mode? Please no it will ruin her Voice... a more Lyrical Esclarmonde will be Gorgeous for her indeed... (and I dont think she has a G6 in her throat (she has an F6) - Massenet wrote a G6 for Sanderson I think).... Cant wait till she releases her Studio Imogene... it is a role that fits her like a Glove
Marina is actually the best in Thais, but even in Donizetti queens, Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda,... Cause her voice and personality match completely with these roles... I saw her in Monte Carlo recital in February, she was fantastic... Also she is for me the best Norma at the moment, and surely Imogene (Yoncheva Imogene was good enough but not really a belcantist and missing the highest note)
No, not a la Sutherland, a la Rebeka :) it would be more lyrical but we know she has the voice to stand up to a big orchestra. And peh on the G6. We know she has an F though, which is also in the score... I think it would be thrilling, albeit in a different way. And indeed she's a perfect Imogene.
@@nathandavis3002 besides the G6 there is a F6??? Where??
It's in the same high bit as the G6. Unlike the G6, which is written optional (can't remember the musical term) the F6 does not have an alternative written.
Her French diction is a bit warbled but this was LOVELY!!!
As far as the staging goes, I think that the whole concept is wrong. Thais is not a religious piece, quite the opposite. The novel ends with the monk raving over Thais's body and cursing his faith, while the nuns flee screaming, "A devil!" Ok, Massenet did not take it that far, -I guess because the Catholic church had already banned the novel, but here we go to the other extreme, showing some kind of religious ecstasy, with Athanael (or Paphnuce in the novel,) meekly lamenting Thais's death. Shouldn't some effort be made to show that he has changed?
She is a really good singer in the literal sense of the term, and I do admire her artistry and I thank her for the repertoire she courageously tackles, but I find her timbre unattractive. It's fine for the Donizetti queens for instance but I do prefer a creamier voice like Fleming's for Thaïs.
But this is just personal taste of course.
Yes, a very personal taste of yours...
@@claudineshafa5546 Exactly, personal, that's what I've said. But thanks for repeating it!
