Grazie
I was taught by an Italian artist , Frank Covino ,in the USA, who taught his students a method of LEANARDO dI Vinci ....the underpainting , was in charcoal and ,perfect ,with careful value , realistic, then a VERDACHIO greenish first.... can't spell it all correctly ,but I AM SURE you know what I mean, this under painting , was done with chromium Oxide green , graded in ten values light to darkest , and perfect as one can , and finally the color , done a third time , each color in 10 values , no complimantaries mixing , pure color and mixed with neutral grey also with ten values ,all pre made , so that underpainting and finally colors were ready , before each layer was started. Which makes for clean painting .You can find under franks name some of his painting on UA-cam
I sincerely wish I had the opportunity for a painting education like that. I have studied the Renaissance masters all my life with Da Vinci being my hero.
This video is priceless especially for self taught artist like me 😁, the small critical tips lies in long video details which is very very important. and don't worry about your language, it is very clear and understood specially by non- English speakers. I much appreciates the effort you put in this video, waiting with interest for the next video👍
I don't know what you are struggling with at the moment, but I had to thank you for showcasing your work even through the hardships you currently face. This is stunning and very helpful as well. I always come back to your videos to really cement into my brain the entire process of creation from start to finish. With apps like Instagram, which showcase short-form videos, its easy to fall into comparison of how long it takes me to complete something versus another artist's work. These videos remind me of the truth: hardwork, dedication and time always pay off. Thank you again.
Hi. Your quote about nervous system of ancient masters and contemporaries we are is one of the more valuable i’m hearing around. About fear of following masterpieces there must be no dubt: the real motivation is always a great love for them.
I've been so unmotivated lately and constantly distracting myself by means of mainly the internet, not getting anything done, school or art wise. This has inspired me to just take some time to actually concentrate on something and moving forward I want to take more time for my own art again. Thank you for sharing your process! The painting is so astonishingly beautiful
Judging from the comments, we have all fallen under your spell - the melodious voice, the care for and love of what you are sharing, are a balm. Thank you for your knowledgeable guidance. 💐
Good evening, Thank you Antonis for solving my problem of access to videos, Byzantine iconography lessons. I am very happy and can’t wait to start learning with you.
Thank you for sharing a long video of your process. I like to have more advanced painters alongside me as I paint , for like minded motivation, good tips and reminders, but mostly the company which allows me to still focus on my canvass. Very relaxing. I am also grateful for you doing these in english.
I'm very glad, that I found your channel and beeing able to see someone still performing this technique. Actually you are the first person I see still working with this particular tempara technique. It is very interesting for me, because I work a lot with very similar techniques. I studied the work of Hans von Mareés a lot and wrote a book about his painting technique. In some stages of his work he is using a very similar tempera technique. I reconstructed a big Triptych of Mareés which was lost after 1945 using a very similar technique. I didn't know Corregio was working in a similar way too. Great work with a lot of deepth! You don't see that often today!
Thank you for sharing your painting with us. It was fascinating to watch I am inspired to try and paint a master copy, its way beyond my capabilities but i will have a go. And when it goes wrong, i will try another one and enjoy the process. Thank you.
The longer your video, for me is more interesting because you share the process and the way it is done. it's a great opportunity for me to watch and learning from you because classic painting is my Passion.
Your accent makes me concentrate more on your message . I clearly understand better while listening more closely. Your a wonderful teacher and Artist 🎨 ❤️
I'm glad I found this video. You mentioned Christ earlier. I've been trying to deatch from worldly things. Things that are bad like youtube, video games, movies, exct... But we all need recreation. A way to re-create one self. My grandpah told me to draw and paint and I've been scared to do so for various reasons. I prayed about it too and this video feels like an answer to that. I appreciate the longer full process video and im going to try painting now. Thank you!
thankyou so much for sharing this beautiful video. I enjoyed the whole thing and will explore more of your amazing art now! ps. all your comments were useful and I relate to all the artistic conundrums (like procrastination before heading to the studio to paint!!) xx
I have just discovered your posts. I must congratulate you. I find your videos so interesting and helpful. My great love is art. Your technique and commentary is superb. Thank you so much. I'm inspired to start painting again❤
Antonis, I really appreciate that you share your painting processes with us and I have come to admire your skill very much! I always look forward to your new releases! I hope you can overcome the struggles that you're dealing with right now. Be healthy and have a good rest of the year! :-)
You have definitely inspired me to attempt more portrait studies and utilize those techniques. With so much saturation of ai generated portraits I really want to start gifting family members actually paintings of them in these styles. Thank you so much for sharing your art with us.
I cannot wait for Salvator Mundi you are going to post it here and see which techniques you used and how it turned out. When you will post it? Thanks for informative content!
Thank you so much for uploading this video.. your work is beautiful.. and i really liked the part where you mentioned that you didn't know what you were doing just using your intuition.. it is encouraging ❤ I wanted to know a little more about using varnish in between layers so that the pigment doesn't dull and get absorbed by the surface.. also some more specifics of the materials you use... Thank you once more 🤗
Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful process of guiding like a real master ,as a machines myself is a real time well absorbed by the orients..
David Hockney has a book showing ,indeed proving many of our famous painters and paintings used the camera obscurer, Even I buildings and portraits , and he made a film probably here on UA-cam , he proves it , by setting up the types and size camera obscures know in different centuries , either right before the actual building still extant or setting up a portrait similar to the artists portrait and leaving us in very little doubt these great artist did this or that famous painting using the camera Obscurer ....pretty interesting and enlightening
Use a projector, use a carbon copy, use a glass table with a bulb underneath. But before learn to draw an apple properly without any aids. All the old masters dedicated their whole lives to painting from a tender age to their last breath. It's not that they could not paint. It's just that they found it convenient while doing a commissioned professional artwork to incorporate these methods. Even the so-called good-for-nothing abstract artists who are thick headed or lazy to learn the traditional methods of painting should see Picasso's old artworks. He was a fantastic artist who could draw beautiful realistic paintings even before his 12th birthday. As he progressed throughout his journey, he matured and developed into abstract art. I've seen people look for faults, shortcuts, special paints, and mediums and think that these things can make them a wonderful artist, but if you do not know the abc's or the grammar of art, and you begin to write a poem, it will sound something coming out of a woman from a brothel. And please do not have the audacity to call it "modern art".
😂 I don't know why but when you say my name is antonius i just remember the meme my name is giovanni georgio but everyone calls me georgio! By the way love your paintings! ❤ I have learnt so many skills from you!!
Salve. Bel video davvero.
Antonis your techniques and video are excellent, I love them. Can you do oil over tempera? I am sure there is a technique with this... Are you greek? do you have a studio ?
For my education how many layers of paint can you apply before painting becomes sculpture. He just kept adding layer to the forehead I expected a 3D image at the end . On a more serious note this was very interesting to watch thank you
good day would you like to make a video on UA-cam I really want to learn how to paint folds in clothes. A good example would be a video with Maria in a beautiful long skirt or dress in shades of blue. Think, for example, of Jan van Eyck or Rogier van de Weijde. I think you can do that very well when it comes to medieval costumes. You are talented at that. I personally cannot find anything on UA-cam with videos on how to paint medieval costumes. hope you will make a video about that. nice day
Beautiful work This to me is how painting should be, I like painting in this style . Photo realism is in my opinion is boring , skilful but boring to look at
I'm a regular youtube watcher but this is the first 2 hour watch I have ever done, truly inspirational and meditative watch....

I’ve always thought the flesh tones of Correggio’s Io were about as good as it gets in terms of a model to copy and learn from. Thank you!
Thank you for a very informative video. 1:07:15

Hello.
Please tell me about the reason for using the stick during painting. Thank you
thank you !
I wish you would tell us what you are using as a medium when adding the layers or paint. And also the colors you are using.
Very nice
Would black India ink also be used in the underpainting?
Salve. Bel video davvero.
May I ask at the point of 1 hour18 minutes, when you were about to blend the colors, were you still using tempera or already applying oil colours ?
Antonis your techniques and video are excellent, I love them. Can you do oil over tempera? I am sure there is a technique with this...
Are you greek? do you have a studio ?
If the layers are thin, you can put oil on everything and anything that is sticky enough on oil.
hi, when you use the brush for the whoite cross hatching, is it a hard brush?
Νo I use only soft brushes
What medium do you use please?
For my education how many layers of paint can you apply before painting becomes sculpture. He just kept adding layer to the forehead I expected a 3D image at the end . On a more serious note this was very interesting to watch thank you
👍👌👏thank you for the excellent explanation of Caravaggio's technique
