Top job Stu, great video. I tried this some years ago, (testing the glide) with simular findings. I found that fuel weight played the biggest factor, flaps were pretty pointless and I also noted that the asi and vsi (vsi especially) are at best just a guide , even opening the dv window would change the results due to change in cockpit static pressure, which affected the instrument readings due to no external static port. Top job anynhow, keep them coming buddy

Hi Alan, thanks for that, I think it is fairly academic really, as when I have had the engine stop for real, I flew faster to ensure I could turn safely without the risk of stalling a wing. Hope you noted your starring role in the `titles,` I`ll make you a star😉

@@MALPAS29 I did , to be far it is an awesome shot you took of the purple peril, best I've seen of a shadow in flight in my opinion

Hi Stu, another great video. I did some glide ratio experiments in the C42 a couple of years ago. Best glide is acheived at best lift drag speed which typically equates to VY. Min Sink on the other hand is achieved much slower somewhere near VX. You stay aloft longer but the glide angle is steeper. So on the C42 this was about 60kt and 40kt respectively. I wasn't brave enough to switch the engine off but from memory the figures were (very appoximately) 7:1 at 70kt, 5:1 at 50kt and 4:1 at 40kt

Not that brave, about three miles of empty beach and within reach of the airfield, just like to have a back up. That said it was reassuring each time the engine started🤣

A really interesting exercise, Stuart - thanks for going to the trouble of making a video about it. P.S. The Shadow is becoming more appealing to me by the day - they are incredible aircraft.

Very interesting testing. Are you at minimum weight or MTOW? I was surprised to see those large containers in the rear cockpit.

Hi Simon, thanks for your comments. The large containers in the rear, are actually fuel tanks. I was about 2/3 of MTOW.

Thanks Stuart - really interesting flight. Is the ASI accurate eg you have a proper pitot static system or do you use CAS v IAS? Just wondering as I optimise my speed during short final!

The POH, states there is an inaccurate of about 5mph to indicated airspeed, it does have pitot tube and static via back of instrument in cockpit.
