They seem bemused and dismayed that a dog is trying to befriend it, as if a serf would dial up the king and say “hey bud, let’s go play tennis.” I think it may boil down to boundaries. Cats are obsessed with maintaining them, and dogs with overcoming them. Cats always seem so aloof, even snobbish, definitely standoffish. But always monitoring the environment as if deciding on everything in its surroundings as either serving its requirements or interfering.
@@AnonYmous-ry2jn well that was a cats job when we domesticated them - to guard the territory. since cats are.. territorial. similar to dogs, but dogs were more our hunters - go into the rabbit hole to fetch us a rabbit for some rabbit stew! cats guarded everything within our, their territory. the garden, for the bunnies, mice. inside the house for any pests, rats, and the like.

I’m a cat person but that puppy is so smart, even tho he’s young, he knows not to be overbearing towards the cat, that takes a lot of self control, mostly for a young puppy! And the cat responded well, didn’t lay hands on him, those two are going to be the best of friends!

The kitty is at least giving friendship a try. The cat at least feels comfortable to stay close to the puppy. So much so that it’s willing to sleep next to the puppy. I think they will be close friends as the grow older together.
I remember when I first introduced my Great Pyrenees to my cat. He was 8 weeks old and already larger than her. It did not go nearly as smoothly as this adorable encounter.
Man this cat was way more patient than the one I used to live with. That one just never gave my dog a chance. She'd always scratch my dog for getting too close. And my dog would have gladly been friendly to her if only she had a chance.
