1. The Shaekh is responding to a fatwa of the Ahbash that states - “If a man says to another man with a fat stomach - you are pregnant like a woman; then he has blasphemed”.
2. The Ahbash use the following Quranic verse to justify their claim: (No female conceives or gives birth except by Allah’s Knowledge).
3. The Shaekh states that this fatwa has no valid weight in the scale of knowledge.
4. He explains: each verse of the Quran has a meaning which is understood by scholars through merely reading the verse, and another meaning which can be inferred from it. For example, in reading the verse: (Say not to your parents “uff”), the scholars understood that it is impermissible to say “uff” to your parents. They also understood an inferred meaning - that it is impermissible to do anything which is higher in harm than saying “uff”, such as hitting them.
5. The scholars said that ‘inferred meanings’ can fall into multiple categories, one of which is (مفهوم اللقب - Mafhoom Al Laqab). For example, a verse in the Quran says: (Muhamad is the Messenger of Allah). Applying (مفهوم اللقب - Mafhoom Al Laqab) would necessitate that there is no Messenger except Muhamad. However, the scholars have said that this category of ‘inferred meaning’ cannot be substantiated and therefore any claim built upon it is invalid, in agreement.
6. Similarly, the verse: (No female conceives or gives birth except by Allah’s knowledge), has an inferred meaning - that only females conceive, however, this inferred meaning falls into the category of (مفهوم اللقب - Mafhoom Al Laqab), and therefore this meaning cannot be substantiated from this verse.
7. Furthermore, the reality disproves this claim because there exists some species of creatures where the male conceives, such as seahorses and pipefish.
8. This clarification is only to disprove the principal which the Ahbash use to make takfeer, and not to prove that male humans conceive.
9. The Shaekh then goes on to explain one of the main errors of the Ahbash, which is to make takfeer based on inferred implications of a person’s statements. The scholars have said that inferred implications are of two types: (directly inferred implications) and (indirectly inferred implications).
10. Directly inferred implications are implications which can be understood directly upon hearing a statement and do not require introductions to be perceived. For example, when the word ‘blue’ is said, there is a directly inferred implication perceived, which is that ‘blue’ is a ‘color’.
11. Indirectly inferred implications are not understood directly upon hearing a statement and require introductions to prove. For example when the word ‘triangle’ is said, there is a indirectly inferred implication which can only be derived through mathematical introductions, such as having a sum of 180 degree angles.
12. The Shaekh then shows that the majority of Sunni scholars from the Salaf and Khalaf, did not make takfeer based on indirectly inferred implications, because a person can say a phrase without having thought of its inferred implications. And if this person was to be presented with the possibilities of inferred implications, he would undoubtedly negate these implications, as stated by Imam Ibn Hajar Al Asqalani.
13. The Shaekh then sends his response to the Ahbash who were not able to counter his arguments. So they resorted to arrogance and said - “it is either you or us that are blasphemers, if you are wrong then you are a blasphemer, and if we are wrong then we and our Shaekh are blasphemers”!
