  • The 2S4 Tyulpan (often spelled Tulpan, Russian: 2С4 «Тюльпан»; English: tulip) is a Soviet 240 mm self-propelled heavy mortar. "2S4" is its GRAU designation. The Tyulpan is the largest mortar system in use today.

    I can only say one thing to everyone who commented. The hero of this video is a SIEGE MORTAR, and it begins to work when the enemy’s formation is surrounded and the artillery capable of interfering with it is destroyed. The purpose of the Tulip is the destruction of long-term field fortifications. The entire effectiveness of this technical solution lies in TACTICS: quickly destroy the encircled enemy formation in order to quickly free up your formations for other tasks.

      That is a dumb weapon bro. Why make a huge mortar instead of just using standard heavy artillery guns for that purpose? Smaller trench mortars are normally used for close range targets, easier and faster reloading and rapid firing for the maximum saturation of explosive shells fired at the enemy. That Russian 240 mm mortar takes a lot of time to reload, even longer than the standard breech loading artillery guns so it beats the purpose of why trench mortars are made in the first place. Also, you'll have to move the barrel everytime you reload the mortar so every shot has to be sighted which slows it down even more. So how can you quickly destroy the enemy formation if the gun is slow to reload and fire? That's probably the reason why the smarter Western countries did not adopt that idea. It's just dumb and stupid.

      @@gerrycrisostomo6571it’s significantly more powerful than those smaller trench mortars, which btw aren’t used anymore since ww1. A single Tyulpan can destroy a 3 story building faster than an entire battery of 120mm mortars

    What's the point of that? You might as well use regular artillery. The advantage of normal mortars are that they are very mobile, a couple of guys can take a mortar and a handful of grenades with them when they go on a mission by foot or keep them in a trench. This awkward and slow thing has no real advantages except for the size of the shell which still isn't as powerful as artillery.

      @@realnapster1522 The standard projectile only has a range of 10km. The rocket propelled ammunition has a range of 20km but is said to be very rare. And no, I don't think any of its' ammo are guided. This vehicle gets hard countered by FPV drones, and counter battery fire. It's good for demolishing hapless opponents who lack artillery, but it's so dated on modern battlefield. Too crew intensive and such a slow rate of fire. And just watched a video of 2S4 (and its' crew) getting wrecked by air-burst rounds. Shitty vehicle doesn't even offer shrapnel protection for its' crews. WHAT"S THE POINT !??

    too big, not an enormous range, too conspicuous, very maintenance-prone, imprecise, cumbersome to transport or move...mmmh...in a group definitely effective but since each Russian unit fights for itself...an easy game for the javelin or himars

    • @user-br4qp4pw2o
      @user-br4qp4pw2o Рік тому

      WTF? And did you get that info from your butthole? Or your neerest CNN station?
      Maintenance-prone? Not even. Russian equipment is notoriously easy to maintain.
      Cumbersome? Yes as any Artillery platform but not much as towed morter/artillery.
      Imprecise?
      Counspicious?
      Not an enormous range? 10,000 km range for basic non-rocket assisted ammo. 18-20,000 km for rocket-assisted ammo. Dont forget that this is a MORTAR. Shooting 240mm rounds. Not impressive enough? Then why did America DEMANDED them destroyed after the dissolvment of Soviet Union?
      Easy game for Javelin or Himars? Javelins sure didnt hold up to their reputation. Not many direct video evidence of their destructive power. And Javelin has a range of 2,500 km. Tulipans would be way out of its reach in safe zone of Russian army. Himars yes thats a good one. But Russia HAS their annalogs there too so its very even.
