Director Biography
Alessandro Gueli is a 23-year-old director and photographer based in Cape Town, South Africa. He is currently completing a Bachelor of Film and Television studies at the University of Cape Town. His work is often documentary-focused, centring around stories of his cultural upbringing and his family. His latest film, Redreaming, is his first experimental project, deftly exploring themes of human consciousness in the digital world.
Director Statement
Whenever I am confronted by the beauty of nature, the first thing I am compelled to do is get out my phone and take a picture. I have realised that what I consider to be an intimate connection with the natural world is in fact always through the lens of technology. Technology envelops us. It learns from us. It filters into every moment of our lives, to the point where it seems to have gained its own consciousness, its own autonomy in seeing and interpreting the world, and this is what I set out to communicate with my film.
