- Опубліковано 11 лют 2025
- In this episode the doctors try a popular energy drink. They measure some vital signs before and after ingestion of the drinks. The doctors recommend checking with your health care provider before trying any type of energy drink, however, they generally do not recommend consuming these types of beverages.

I love it that you guys are real, " I need chips or chicken wings to go along with the energy drink". LoL 😂😆
Yes Dr Z needed something to help choke that drink down
I work in a prison, my pressure is going down. I don't let to much bother me.
Question having a IVG PANZYQA ?
@@joniellis7553 you should get that checked with your PCP.
We need to get these Docs to 1 mil ASAP! They are awesome!!
Thanks Mel. We need that help!
Absolutely LOVE your intro, with the music and warning we are about to listen to two cutie pie youngsters who are Doctors giving sage advice!!
I come from the generation of TAB and learned all sodas and energy drinks (RedBull) are POISION!
I had great difficulty kicking the diet coke aspartame habit, it was so addictive, but after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease was I able to stop drinking sodas. Today I drink 1 cuppa tea each day and water! You BOYS ARE ADORABLE!!!
Thank you so much and congrats on your healthy choice!!
I love you guys! You make “healthy” fun to investigate. My kid did a science project like this years ago testing adults vs. kids playing intense video games. This sounds like an even better science project. Thanks for the test - I only drink two 8 oz. cups of coffee a day- made at home - never tried an energy drink. Have a great week!
You too Laura!
You guys are so adorable.not only you give good medical Advise and with good sense of humor too. I live in the U S of A and i have a terrible white coat syndrome, if all doctors in Canada are like you guys , i better move there. God bless
Come on up Lerma!
I don't' think they are designed to be shotgun down at once, so interesting seeing you drink it all in one setting. I keep a container of G-Fuel (fruit punch flavor) at work and if I'm struggling to focus or feel sleepy, just a finger-nails size portion with water perks me up. Doing the whole scoop makes me ill and waaaayyy over energized, like a fly buzzing around a bar-b-que.
Yes same
I believe you docs did an important study! Great job!
We think so too!
Qualified study or not, interesting. Good content guys, and as always I get a laugh!
That’s part of our goal!
Dr Brad's neck is pink his vessels are dilated!😂 Poor Dr Z, he is struggling! I am on a beta blocker pulse runs for me 60-64. Drank one energy drink and the pulse went to 118!! Thought a train was coming out of my chest. No thanks. I will say, I cleaned the house until it was squeaky clean!😂😂😂👋👋👋
Very nice Denise!
I am on a beta blocker also. People don't understand how it affects your performance. Thanks for sharing 😊
What a great narrative about studies in the middle of your study---loved it. I am guessing Dr. Zalzal will not be having another one of those any time soon
Nope Gregg
You guys are a stitch! I am so glad I found you two and your informative videos. Have recommended these to family and friends! Keep up with these videos. Your patients are lucky to have the 2 of you. A lot of buzz about how many steps in a day a person should get in. Does it vary by age?
Hi Sharon. So there is no real magic number but somehow it seems to have landed on 10,000. The bottom line is get as many as you can. Be as active as you can. Find something you like and that makes you happy. It’s that simple! Thanks for the positive feedback.
@@TalkingWithDocs I average about 2.5 feet a step. That's 25,000 feet or nearly 5 miles for 10,000 steps. At 4 miles an hour (the high average for people according to Google) that's around 1 1/2 hours a day walking. That's just not reasonable. I know several people who walk but none that walk that much. That's not even mentioning the time to change shoes or whatever else you do to get ready. I have read several times that the 10,000 step number came from some PR department in a company shilling a walking meter or some such thing. Let's just stop that number now. It's silly and just gives people a reason not to begin ... or believe anything you say. (OH, I do like you guys. Just work on this one!) EDIT; Here's a quick Google "Walking for 30 MINUTES a day or more on most days of the week is a great way to improve or maintain your overall health"
You guys looked like me when having your BP taken as your/my facial expression(s) appear to be trying to "will" the pressures down! LOL! 🤣
Yes both of ours were higher than normal.
Hi Dr. Weening and Dr. Zalzal. Man Dr. W downed that drink. You must have been very popular in college. It is still very informative. Once 1pm comes around I stop drinking everything and I stick to water. I drink 8 bottles of water a day. I go to the bathroom alot but water keeps my kidneys working. There was a time that I couldn't stand to drink water. I drank soda, sugary drinks, and orange juice. I'm so happy I cut those things out of my liquid intake. My BP is usually around 120/80. BP of a 20 yo just like I said before. Hard to believe I am going to be 59 in August. Thank you both for sharing
Welcome MArie. Water is the best choice for sure
That was a great video! Thank You Gents..
Our pleasure!
Oh I love my coffee ☕️ but try & limit to 2 a day. Never tried the energy drinks. Thank you guys I love this.
Our pleasure!
Awesome video, thanks! Now you've motivated me to conduct my own non-scientific study to see if my BP increases when I eat coffee ice cream with ground coffee beans (which I prefer) versus generic coffee ice cream. Probably will need to conduct this study over a 4 week period, one week with, one week without.
I love coffee ice cream, but can only eat it early in the day because it gives me insomnia 😞. Good luck!
Ha that’s funny
As always, a great little video!
I am a Tigger, so I've never needed an energy drink. And while I love coffee, any more than 12oz (355ml) of fully caffeinated coffee gives me the jitters. I drank liters college, but it turned on me after age 30!
Good stuff!
Enjoyed your useful fun video demo! Thanks a ton.❤🌺
Thanks so much Kiran!
I stopped by for the Orthopedic advice, I stayed for the energy drinks.
Ha RT. Love it!!
“ you partied a lot in university “😂😂😂
😉
Love how honest they do
You both are cute and I enjoy your channel. Wish my doc was as fun! 😆🌞
Thanks so much Cindy!
That’s interesting but for me given I run marathons and triathlons my base compared to after drinking them is like so:
Standard-> 120/85 bp
65 HR
97 %O2
After energy drinks-> 135/95 bp
63 HR
98 %O2
Not much change between readings and I’m in my late 20’s. Y’all are super healthy for y’all’s age though. The crash gets bad though💥.
Maybe take a reading 8 hours after that would be interesting 🧐 .
Thanks for the vid it was very informative .
Agree!
Wow Dr. Brad really guzzled that down I thought I saw him in the animal house movie . The is a good idea very interesting on the out come. I don't drink them just coffee in the morning one 20 oz. cup . you all have a good evening .
Ha Kubota. We prefer Frank the Tank from Old School. Coffee is a great choice
A vid aboot energy drinks 🤔 Going above and beyond for the subscribers! Canadians call soda “pop”?
Both of you tested your baseline vitals with the seriousness of suspects showing up for a polygraph exam.
The two of you are hilarious!
Dr. Zalzal nerds out describing random trials. I can’t speak for everyone but this channel makes my day.
(Chicken wings).
The Brits call it pop as well! 🥤
Hi RT. We are what you did there sneaking in chicken wings. Yes we were really trying to lower our blood pressure but we were too excited about it! Thanks so much for watching
Love these videos. You guys are awesome!
Glad you like them!
If its too sweet you put less amount of gfuel in there and instead of chugging, you can just sip it slowly. Also you're not supposed to fill to the top and instead to the line.
Informative and "fun" to watch you go through the experiment, including taking baseline measurements. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Sooo you just drank @200mls of water and waited 20mins
Your full bladder could account for the SLIGHT increase in BP
If your bladder wasn’t full you may want to check your Renal function.
Either way love watching your videos especially because it’s current ,easily understood and not just Orthopaedics
Great point Dexter. We should have peed first!
Amazing drink. For the caffine version I use half the amount with 8oz more water.
Anything more then that i get the jitteres.
Their hydration formula though is amazing!!! 0 caffeine. I drink it all the time. At the recommended dosage of it. Its cheaper then gaterade and does more then gaterade does.
i live and work in florida. the hydration is amazing.
“Too sweet for me 😀”(chugged the whole thing in seconds lol)
I drink Gfuel before I start my shift and on the commute home. I love the fact that it's not carbonated. I will say it hits just as anything would with that caffeine and taurine content. The vitamin content is a little nuts though. Great review and more importantly the disclaimer in this video from health professionals.
This is the most hyper we've seen Brad yet. Did you clean your office after that? LoL
Ha. No but we were a little jacked up for a bit
Hi Docs, My drinks are either Powerade Zero or G2 in that order. I’m only interested in hydration and electrolytes. Especially after perspiring from activity. And NO chicken wings! James (NE)
Wise choices James. Some researchers feel that water is likely enough for hydration unless you are doing extreme endurance sports but we like the taste of the two you mentioned and the reduced sugar
@@TalkingWithDocs There are times when water does taste great and other times I have trouble getting it down. But I agree, water plus my two. 👍🙋♂️
A very nice experiment you two! You can be serious and laugh at yourself at the same time! That makes you so relatable!
I've never had energy drinks and I don't desire to either. I already have white coat hypertension, no matter how much I try to relax. Sometimes they take my blood pressure with several types of machines. After trying 5 different times, I ask them to try at the end of my appointment.
I have coffee in the morning and iced tea the rest of the day. I'll have a soft drink occasionally because it goes with certain foods! 😉
But I've watched my nephews grow up drinking all kinds of energy drinks. I've never thought they were good for them, especially in the beginning when they were packed with sugar and way too much caffeine!
It's good seeing you two conducting your own study and showing us the results! I'm sure Dr Z would have finished the drink faster with chicken wings! 😋
You're both good sports for conducting this experiment! I bet you were able to fly through surgery later in the day! 😚
Thanks for sharing another great video! 👍
Yes Vickie. In general probably not the best idea to drink too many of these
I don't feel so bad about my blood pressure now. I am 71 and was thinking 125-127/65-69 was a bit high. I will have to check again after my morning cup of coffee.
Yes that was high for us too. Way too excited to do this video
I have never had an energy drink, and I don’t think I’m missing out. I do have a mug (1 1/2 cups) of strong fresh ground coffee each morning with Truvia (Stevia) and sugar free creamer. The rest of the day I drink water up until I go to sleep. Your videos are SO informative and you both are SO precious! Having said this...I’m SO glad I wasn’t the patient you worked on after filming this video! 😊😄😉
yiu are missing out a lot of things from energy drink is TAASTE BABY TASTE YEAHHHH!
We were good by the time we operated! Back to normal
@@TalkingWithDocs Was playing racquetball one day with a brain surgeon. He got a call that he had to leave to go do brain surgery. We played for another 45 minutes. He said it would take them a while to get ready. I mean, it's not brain surgery ....OH WAIT !!
your blood pressure is up, because of the caffeine. Your heart rate is down because it has Citrulline Malate which is Nitric Oxide, a Vaso dilater. I was surprised to, because that's what's in my pre-workout for when I lift weights it allows a greater pump by allowing more blood flow and relaxing your veins to allow more oxygen and blood flow.
6:14 “whoa, Sonic the Hedgehog”😂😂😂
Excellent explanation of scientific studies And I won’t be drinking energy drinks in the future.i drink a glass of milk after a workout.
Very nice
I love you guys! You crack me up but share valuable information😃
Thanks for watching!
I drank one once, after a couple hours I felt weird and my blood pressure went way up! Top number was in the 180's. I thought I was going to have a heart attack and ended up in the hospital. They told me people end up in the hospital after drinking these all the time. But at least I had a good work up while there LOL
Yes they can be dangerous if too many for sure
Were there any changes in how you felt throughout your day. I do not use anything with artificial sweeteners. Also i always read labels. So much junk in our over-processed foods/drinks etc
Not after about an hour. Returned to normal.
I feel caffeine the most at hour 7. That's when I get the most jittery. It's kind of annoying.
Very interesting. Thanks docs ‼️
Very welcome
Hey guys,,, this was very interesting for sure. Here is a question,, wouldn't a good ole "Mars" bar get the same results as the chocolate has caffeine and sugar ?????
At least the Mars bar is good! Better yet, a Snickers.
Hi Howie. So the sugar does have an effect but different than caffeine as far as blood pressure and heart rate. And yes tastes better
Great that you made a video about this topic! 😍
Very interesting 👍👍
Glad you liked it!m Estere
Thank you Doctors.
I never have drank one.
You're welcome
Very interesting. I'm like you Paul. No coffee, mostly fruit juice and water. I'd love to see a vid on having a bed time snack. What is too much? What is a healthy bedtime snack? Time between snack and bed time.
Good topic Gord. We will look into it
I drink 1/2 of one before work and the other half, half way during my shift. Sometimes I can tell a difference sometimes I can't.
Sounds about right
Had a patients son (14 y.o.) exhibiting neurological symptoms, they had an appointment with a pediatric neurologist, we had him stop the energy drinks, all of his symptoms disappeared in 3 days. The parents thought these drinks were healthy.
Yeah it’s pretty nuts
On the opposite end of the spectrum, have you produced, or considered producing a segment on sleep aids? Their efficacy, risks, etc? I'm referring to things like melatonin, magnesium, etc. Love the videos!
They are definitely on our list to do
So, which lucky patient had their surgery that day? With Dr Zalzal a non coffee drinker hyped on energy drink!! ha ha ha
Nice low heart beats guys...must be in good shape. Love the great ideas, you come up with for videos.
Thanks so much hex
Tried it recently and it wasn’t bad, I did however fall asleep right after. I did have carbs and it was late so that probably didn’t help. I’ll try it in the morning but the 300mg cans (of any brand) is the way to go if you need a boost. Drink half before u go out and another half later if you need it
Thank you for the info, Docs. At least I learnt today what my ideal BP should be! A GP once said to me that if I wanted a cheap, but effective, energy drink for a game of golf, I should take a liter of water and mix in a spoon of sugar and a spoon of salt (presumably a small spoon!). Does it make sense?
Yeah we guess but probably water is enough unless you are doing prolonged sports with excessive sweating
Lol you guys are awesome.
Thanks
You were brave to drink that stuff. I've never had an energy drink in my life except coffee although as you are saying, strong coffee has similar amount of caffeine to what you drank. Coffee seems like the healthier option. Is that the takeaway?
Yes Words. We are going to review coffee but some pretty good evidence for health benefits
You should consider the effects of taurine in many of the energy drinks. Potent stuff.
Yes that is listed for a bunch of them
Hmmmmm.
Not sure if that tells the entire story.
Red Bull, probably the most well known energy drink, also contains other things that might affect vitals. A pretty good dose of B12 and B6 which tends to make my heart pound a bit, for example.
But I love these videos.
Agreed Tom it’s not just the caffeine. Plus we are pretty excitable when filming.
I was driving home from a trip away a while back, I felt quite fatigued, so I decided to try an energy drink. The results were scary, I felt more alert, less tired. But absolutely it did not improve my response / reaction times, I was still driving like I had been on the road for 18 hours. I pulled up and got a motel room, never gone near them again. It was a drink with Guarana as the active ingredient as well as a strong whack of caffeine.
Yeah they are tricky for sure
Finally. A voice of logic!!
Every now and then 🤣
As a caffeine connoisseur who started with Jolt Cola back in the 80’s I appreciate this video. I actually am trying to cut back to a healthy amount.
Nice. Wow we remember jolt. And caffeine pills - wake ups!
Is Stevia ok as a sweetener? Thanks
It is probably better than most. Going to try and review it
I barely drink any soda, tried RedBull once, not worth spending any money on that stuff. You two guys are wonderfull, and funny, keep up the exçellent work.
Thanks so much Francine. We would tend to agree
" not worth spending any money on that stuff." yet i bet you spend more on tea and coffee !
I only drink water all day …. From a Berkey Water Filtration System
Smart choice
So just a heads up that top funnel is for water bottles and if you filled it up to the top then you have just taken double the amount of caffeine.
How did the rest of your day go? Experience any unusual tiredness throughout the shift? Any stomach issues?
For me, flavored "energy drinks" are as if I drank a bottle of castor oil along with a benadryl or three.
Everything starts out ok, without any of the supposed "energy". But by hour 3... I am useless. Oddly, 1 or 2 "Monster Java" drinks do not seem to affect me. (have yet to check vitals however)
Rest of the day was ok. No crash.
Can’t pain also raise your blood pressure? Mine is always high but I do take blood pressure medicine. I think you two are so funny and love your videos 👍🏻💓
For sure Cheryl it can. So glad to hear you are enjoying our channel!
Excellent thank you
You are very welcome
Next time: chicken wing flavoured potato chips 😋 👌🏼
Thanks, drs.
Great suggestion!
Hi guys. Have you done a video on what causes ectopic arrhythmia? I will search through your library.
We have not but can add it to the list.
Another great video!!!
Thanks for sharing this video doctor's. I used to drink them 2 year's ago not all the time but I don't anymore even the powerade zeroes too. Which I'm glad that I don't drink them. They really don't do anything for me.
Agreed. Lots of words you can’t pronounce in the ingredients
You guys must of worked very hard for this job good
Luck
That was great fun! I always thought you should take your blood pressure on your left arm, no? I guess we learned how to not do a study😂😂
Doesn’t matter as long as it is the same arm
This was pretty informative, definitely about to binge watch this channel after a swim today but before that, some thoughts. So, I didn't hear if you guys went over this or not but was you clean test done before or after Dr. Brad's morning coffee? Also, on average, how many coffees are you consuming per day?
I just wonder because I personally use to have two or three cups per day or I'd have several energy drinks throughout the day. If I didn't have my coffee or energy drinks I'd get angry, fell nauseous, and overall wouldn't be able to function in my day to day but I also didn't really like how the caffeine was making me feel when I did have them anymore either. I was actually able to ween myself off caffeine using GFuel even though that wasn't my intention. I was told by a friend that it wasn't an immediate spike in energy but instead a small and long lasting boost to energy and focus. Be it placebo or not, that is what I experienced so I followed instructions and replaced my coffee/energy drinks with the Gfuel and eventually ended up drinking less and less until I wasn't drinking it regularly anymore. No more energy drinks, coffee, soda, or GFuel, it was a complete accident but I managed to stop all of them in the span of a few months.
Now I will say, I also do not recommend anyone start taking GFuel, this is just my personal experience.
Great video. I used to drink Jolt in college when studying for finals; crazy! Gave up caffeine many years ago. Many thanks for sharing these videos. 👍
Yes Jolt cola! Forgot about that one.
Good Evening Doctors.
Do you have information on Peptides BPC157 and sermorelin.
I’d hate to the next victim in the operation ward with these two could get zig zag stitches .😂
That’s funny Rob. These at steady hands 🙌
So interesting. I don't use fruit juice or any sugar drinks. But I love coffee. Love. It. If it kills me, I'd just like to say goodbye.
Hi Mike. Pretty good evidence that coffee has health benefits. You’re good to go!
God bless everyone and have a good day ❤
You too!
luv u docs cuz you make me laugh + fyi i ordered BEET ROOT POWDER + GROUND FLAX SEED from Amazon = for my daily BP lowering beverage + if i don;t like the taste adding a few ice cubes will remedy that 🙂
Nice Sue. Let’s get that BP down!
I definitely prefer mine either with an overfilled 16 oz shaker or with the larger shakers just because they are super sweet
If nothing else, this sample of two could get people curious about the effects of these "supplements" as they are advertised.
Yes better to just drink water and work hard
I admit I love Red Bull original unflavored. It really does give me a boost when I am working out. Having said that, I also admit I believe it is bad for my health in the long run. Therefore, I limit them to 3 of the small cans per week.
That sounds fair TheOtherMike.
One a day is fine
Dr. Zalzal drank that like it was a colonoscopy prep. Lol
256 THOUSAND views in 15 hours. Congrats!
Hi Joseph. We wish
@@TalkingWithDocs Well, that's what it said on my UA-cam thing. But, now I see it changed. I have to stop watching these videos when I'm drunk. :))
One night - years ago (early 90s) - my friends and I got into a bag of chocolate covered espresso beans (at the time, I didn't drink coffee). I'd eaten so many of these things I thought I was going to vibrate through the wall. As for energy drinks, I gave up after trying Jolt Cola (whose tagline was: All the sugar and twice the caffeine).
As for coffee, head into Toronto and get an espresso from Fahrenheit. It'll change your life.
Remember: modesty is for quitters. ;)
J
Nice Jason.
as someone who used drinks 3 - 4 cans of monsters daily, this vid is kinda entertainin to watch. viet coffee & sneak (its like g fuel but better) actually helps me drink less monsters.
i wanna see both of you do a vid review on sneak to see how it differs from g fuel.
We can add it to the list for sure!
Ha! The title is so small on my phone that I thought you were going to drink gruel!
That’s funny
Energy drinks have a lot of unknowns in them!
For sure
Interesting. I would’ve expected the heart rate to also be up.
Yeah we thought so too. Ideally need to try a few more times
Can you guys do your thoughts on GFuels led warnings?
Hey great video again!!! Hey you mentioned a giraffe, I’m 6’7” tall apparently in 1% in the human population. Is there any data on blood pressure norms and tall people?
It is normally a little bit higher Jake
Whoa! Loving this vid. Never had/tried energy drinks. Not my thing, but, was fun and educational to watch this "non-scientific" experiment. Very nicely done, Doctors! Also, I believe Dr. Weening's gulping may be a "hint" of some college related activities? 😁 Begs the question, "Was there rum?" 😂 Seriously, more of these.
Glad you enjoyed it! There may have been an occasion or two … 😉
Great video, pretty interesting as I see G fuel advertised a lot on gaming UA-cam videos.
Thank you!
Luckily the good docs did not try Monster drinks. They had serious class actions against them. I was speaking with someone who told me she had to go to urgent care because of her reaction to it.
Yes they are strong.
Dear Docs, you've struck upon exactly what I experience with BP/HR but without the energy drink. If I'm relaxed and calm, my BP will often be high @145/90 with a pulse around 45-50. If I move around a bit and get my pulse up to around 70 my BP will fall to around 130/80. I used to attribute high BP reading at the Dr's office to white coat fever but I think it's just that I sit quietly in the waiting room and my resting HR goes quite low. I don't know if there's a scientific explanation but it's very reproducible for me.
Hard to say really. Hope you are ok.
For people wanting to try pre-workout of any kind. Start off with 1/10th of a scoop and work your way up to a dose you feel comfortable with up to the max dose. Do not start off with one full scoop as shown in the video.
Would you say BCAAs without caffeine is good for intra exercising?
There is some evidence that consuming protein during workouts has benefit but it does depend on the goals, the type of exercise etc
Good job guys!!!
Thanks Cindy!
