From story 2: That CEO reminds me of someone I know. He worked at a grocery store as a assistant store manager. He was being promoted to Store manager at a different location. I told him he wouldn't last because he is a horrible person. Sure enough he didn't last 6 months. To this day I tell him "You had a 7 figure a year job and you blew it". He then says "It wasn't a 7 figure a year job". I tell him "one of the perks of that position is getting a 7 figure a year pay check, along with million dollar bonuses after every inventory taken".

My father retired and decided to sell real estate in Florida and when he relocated he got rid of his ties. One day, after several years, the owner decided to have a dress code where men would wear neckties. My children had gotten him the gaudiest tie for his birthday. At the next staff meeting he wore it. The policy was recinded immediately.

The changes didn't last and my husband's suggestions were put into effect so it worked. Reminds me of a roommate issue. They bitched that i ate too much community food, dirty dishes, trash full ect, none of which i was guilty of.. Being the only man in the house the estrogen army was drawing battle lines. So i bought my own food and put it in a mini fridge in my room, used paper plates, and had my own trash can just outside my window (which sat in the bed of my pickup truck, quite convenient). I took my trash to work and dumped it every day. We lived on a few acres in the country. So after a few weeks they decided to have a "sit down" about the same stuff. At which time i showed them the mini fridge, trash can, paper and plastic dishes. It was a friend of one of the roomies that came over while we were gone eating the food and leaving dishes in the sink. Any apologies? nope. So i moved out shortly there after. I fixed the house, their cars, stuff around the house when i lived there. I got calls asking for help. Nope, hire a landscaper, nope, take it to a mechanic but not my shop, nope hire an electrician, nope, hire a plumber nope take it to geek squad.

When I was stationed at McGuire AFB, NJ, we had two places to buy uniform parts. The Base Exchange carried more than just uniform parts, Think Wegman's or Target. The other place sold only uniform parts at cost, no profit. They could do this because no civilian worked there. I was there one day when a Senior Master Sargent [E-8] was talking with the Clothing Store Manager. He was smoking a cigar right under a "No Smoking" sign. (The manager was a Staff Sargent [E-4]. This E-8 kept using the cigar to point with. I noticed that the burning end had fallen off and landed on a pile of Camo-Pants. I tried to interrupt the conversation to tell them the pants were smoldering. The E-8 insisted that I come to attention, shut up and be dressed down Royally. By the time the E-8 took notice of the smoke, flames were visible. The E-8 grabs the Soda-Acid Fire Extinguisher off it's rack, inverts it and starts spraying the pants. There were 3 mistakes here. First, you should not use a soda-acid type in a clothing store. Second, the Sargent could have pulled the pants to the floor and stomped out the fire. Third, once he had the fire out, he set the unit upright. The mixture did not stop coming out of the hose. They call it Soda-Acid because the water has Bicarbonate of Soda in it. Inverting the device causes the lead ball that covers the acid inside the acid filled lead bottle to release the acid. You only get to use these once before you need them completely cleaned out and refilled. To stop the mixture from getting everywhere, the E-8 put his thumb over the hose nozzle and ran outside. The pressure by this time pushed his thumb of the nozzle and the mixture shot 30 FT into the air. The wind picked it up when the spray got higher than the buildings roof. The wind forced this mixture to arc over to the parking area. The liquid then hits a parked F-150 belonging to that stupid E-8. We all came to the door. After I saw the paint start to blister off the F-150, I told the E-8 to aim it into the gravel. The E-4 came out while the E-8 was trying to try to stop his paint job from being ruined. The E-4 had estimated the damage to merchandise and fixtures at about $250. He filled out a "Statement of Charges" for this amount for the E-8 to sign. Since one of the other patrons that day was an Air Policeman, the E-8 was forced to sign this S of C and the money would be taken from his paycheck. While this happened in the mid '60s, This might have been the E-8s months pay.

It was the ONLY place where there was fire allowed in the whole ship (if we ignore the inside of the engines). I understand there was a single lighter controlled by the steward.
The room could only be accessed through an airlock. The slightly elevated air pressure therein meant gasses (like hydrogen) could not leak in.
Part of the airlock was a small bar and IIRC the bartender’s main job was making sure no fire or embers or lit tobacco etc was getting out, be it from absent-mindedness or on purpose.
So no, smoking could be done quite safely on a Zeppelin, even with the passengers being inside the hull instead in an underslung gondola. (The Hindenburg was meant to use the much safer - and vastly more expensive - helium, but the USA, the only place that could supply significant amounts of helium, did not exactly want to put that strategic material into the hands of a potential enemy n a potential war.

If work for a company that values workers as human, this might be different, but these are few and far between. You either need to be the boss/owner or someone with very valuable and rare skills to be treated any differently. The lady is in the store for a while then comes out yelling at me saying “what did you put in my car?” I go “regular, why? Is everything okay?” She screams “NO HOW MUCH!!” So I go “oh filled it like you asked.” She pauses for a second looks at the pump and continues yelling “I SAID $50!!” (It came out to $138 cause of how expensive gas is right now. She storms back in giving my co workers a hard times then yells at me again slams her door and drives away. Now this wouldn’t be the biggest deal if she made a mistake my manger would’ve figured out a solution for her he’s a good guy. But since she harassed me and my co workers my manager wasn’t having it. Also the customer behind her confirmed that she said fill regular. So anyways she drives off mad we finish up the rush go in and explain it to the manager and even the customer behind her went and talked to him for us. After everything was settled I heart kept pounding, we had a good laugh, and was making sure to confirm a 2nd or even a 3rd time to make sure we heated correctly.

Regarding the first story, because the lady was a Karen, she had probably expected that as OP had already taken down the clothes from the line, it shouldn’t hurt OP to fold the clothes (thus avoid wrinkling them), and taking them to Karen’s home (and not putting them down in a dusty place). 😅

If you tolerate that sort of whining, you get to suffer the consequences of her actions too.
1:50 Oh please. She'd have _sued you._ You'd be out TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in lawyers fees.
Compassion toward people who get snitty about property _costs big bucks._ Money better spent on life-saving surgery for a pet.

Never...ever...fuck with the IT dept. I was working for a mid sized company and the CEO was like the one in the story...a screamer who knew no boundaries and had zero self awareness. One day, she decides the IT dept was "nothing but an unneeded expense and the IT infrastructure was also a waste. After all, what did she need servers, routers, and switches for? So she gives the CIO the order to remove ALL the servers. She would not listen to any warnings. So we all found new jobs and on our last day we physically removed all the servers and had a company come and get them.
That company lasted another 4 days...LOL...don't eff with IT.

On the third one, I would have turfed the manager. But upper management don't see the actual front line staff... they just see an expense of their pay.

Most apartments where I used to live had a washer but the only dryers we had were in this small building. There was a dryer for every 2 tenants (so a dryer for upstairs and downstairs to use) and we would usually converse with our neighbors when we were washing clothes so we were not fighting over it. However I had a tenant move below me and she did not care. She would also wash several loads at a time and take up multiple dryers. If one was not open she would dump out the clothes dry or not to use for herself. Now everyone had enough after about a month. We (several tenants and myself) lodged a complaint to the owner. He then decided that he would make it more difficult to use the dryers unless we had clothes to dry. He also limited people to one load at a time. He locked the small building and gave everyone a notice. Basically when you need a dryer you had to ask him or his assistant to unlock the building. This meant while you were drying clothes if the opposite tenant wanted the dryer they would be told to wait until their tenant counterpart was done. She did not like this. She would constantly try and sneak in when others were being let in but was always stopped.
She ended up breaking her lease agreement and moved out. After she left the dryer building was unlocked and the peaceful harmony returned.

Some years ago I worked at a big steel mill, as they were laying some staff off they asked for people who would accent voluntary redundancy, with a payout. This comment is for the first story. That guy did nothing wrong and he did the right thing, and that woman was totally wrong. And I have to say that if this crazy woman went around telling people "he stole my underwear or I told him not to touch my clothing but he still did it anyway." And she sounds like the kind person that would do that to try and make op look like a creeper. All I can say is try to stay away from that kind of woman because she will say one thing one day and then say something else another. And op was just doing what he was asked to do.

About story #2, it reminds me of the episode of The Brady Bunch where Greg was adamant about using "Exact Words" when they all spoke to each other. That episode made using the "exact words" not a really good idea, though. But, in the case of the story here, exact words are quite necessary for the operation of the company. Good for those employees !!!

  • @jamiepatterson1214

Managers that have a problem with ONE employee, should deal with that employee and only that employee one on one. Calling a ataff meeting to berate that person in front of others is petty and small minded. It starts resentment that spreads throughout the staff and hampers work productivity. People of that type should never be put into management positions. They cause more troubles than needed by employees.
If people aren't properly compensated for the work they do, then they'll look to other jobs. When management complains about the loss of employees, they're unable to see the sole cause of the employee flight. Management.
