    • @simon6154
      @simon6154 6 років тому +31

      you are one big moron... No one is complaining about smurfing cuz that...
      People are complaining cuz he is not the only one... thousands of people are doing this... That's why it's wrong... And why making a series road to GC? Like it's any achievement to do that... First, you already did it, second woow what an achivment. You'll go on date and be like, hey I'm GC in RL... wooooow
      Fuck this series on YT it's like encoureging people to do that

    • @marianoestrada1384
      @marianoestrada1384 6 років тому +79

      You don't know what smurfing is if you think Squishy's Road to GC account is a smurf. It's just a different account that will (very, VERY soon) be in a more appropriate ELO for his skill level. He isn't doing this to beat up on low ranks - he even tries to restrain himself from straight up montaging on kids. Thousands of people are smurfing because they're a) either tired of getting smacked at their rank or b) trying to get a higher rank by using a new account's ELO malleability to rank up because their main might be soft locked at DIII for example. If we're being really nitpicky about whether Squishy is smurfing, ask yourself: do you honestly believe any people outside the top 100 can give him any sort of challenge?
      Squishy is creating this series because many people enjoy watching how the quality of games improve even between 2 games. While he plays in these games, people of all skill levels can learn how to navigate certain ranks because Squishy gives his tips on how to improve these ranks. That's why he made this series. He's teaching us how to get better at any ranks. He could care less about getting GC, and you're really missing the point if you think that's why he's doing this.
      As for your last point, if you aren't a GC-caliber player, you can't just wake up one day and decide "Hey I'm gonna smurf and get GC."

    • @simon6154
      @simon6154 6 років тому +2

      Yea that's all true, but you know how many people out there are Smurfing... When you don't have a whole day to game and you want some fun and you encounter smurf game after game, it's not anymore like oh ok but its fking annoying. That's the only reason why I hate pro players play at lower levels... Games should be made so you can only have like one acc or something like that.. how? I don't know
      And you can't expect anyone to win or do anything against him up to diamond... I'm diamond 1 to 3 (jumping up and down with 300 hours) And I don't think I would do shit against him

    • @rlflorna8402
      @rlflorna8402 6 років тому +13

    As a very low rank I would've welcomed an opportunity to play against GC (even better a pro like in this case). Save the replay and watch. And anyways people who make this kind of a series it's only a few matches that it takes to go up from the lower ranks. The real issue is the super salty community Rocket League has and people start whining from the slightest of things :P

    • @CrazyAndy323

      I'm actually not okay with this series. Let's be honest, we're not learning anything by watching squishy style on some silvers and golds. It's entertainment for sure. But his claim is this is to help people understand how to rank up. Nobody is learning anything from this. I would be more okay with it if he held back from scoring and just be there for defense and ensure the win, not stump on low ranked players.
      Mr. Squishy, if you get to read this, please make this your approach going forward. I recognize you as one of the best in the game, but I feel for the players who express anger and frustration.

      @ShortenMonteCristo 6 років тому +7

      i played a 2's game where there was an opponent hitting crazy double touches when I was around gold and it pissed me off. I can totally relate to these people getting angry. Now if I knew it was squishy it'd be a completely different story

      @@zer0w0rries96 you're missing the point. This series is meant to help those who want to get into the next tier of ranked. Most of us who watch Squishy are at least Diamonds. Anyway, he asked the viewers if they wanted to see placement matches and they said yes so your issue with the series should be an issue with the people who voted for it. Once he hits the Plat/late Diamond and early Champ ranks a ton of people will learn and take away a great deal from it.

    • @dave93x
      @dave93x 6 років тому +4

      You have the right attitude and more people need to buck their ideas up and try to learn things if they want to prove at this game. I did a GFinity with my friends back before RLCS 1 qualifiers kicked off and matched up against The Flying Dutchman and got spanked. I saved the replay and saw how fast and calculated they were compared to us.
      It's an experience anyone who truly wants to progress should have and be grateful for.

  • @Zancb
    @Zancb 6 років тому +182

    I gotta say, I was eager to watch this series because in episode #1 you talked about how you would go into details about each division and possibly how to learn how to break out of each rank, which seemed to match up with the "RTGC" theme. However, these episodes seem more like just clapping on noobs and very little commentary about what these players specifically need to do be better. Even though there are some funny moments, I feel like this series is kind of lost on some of the original context.
    Either way, thank you very much for the content. Peace :)

      I'm not sure if he's even able to give much more advice than he already has. I don't know what rank you're currently in but if I was in squishys place I wouldn't know what else to say. I do agree with the whole "the placements are kind of unnecessary" opinion but tbh he plays like that in his rank aswell

    • @somethingthatpops
      @somethingthatpops 6 років тому +38

      The problem with trying to commentate on what people should do at this rank is trying to pick from a massive list of things to say. His opponents are out of position, double committing, whiffing, etc. on every single play. He hit the nail on the head by just telling people around this rank to get their mechanics down. Game sense comes through time and becomes almost intuitive. I'm sure he'll be more in depth at higher ranks because they will make minor mistakes that can be addressed case-by-case as opposed to massive mistakes for the entirety of the game.

    • @Joshyy_C
      @Joshyy_C 6 років тому +6

      The best way to get a Pro's advice on a lower level match would be to have him commentate over a replay analysis of the game. There really isn't a lot Squishy can comment on from his own perspective, and when lower levels play against ridiculously good opponents, they would likely play much more frantically and thoughtlessly in an effort to keep pace with them. At least in a replay analysis Squishy would get to see a normal match up from 4 people's perspective.

    • @MrXantrias
      @MrXantrias 5 років тому +2

      I have recently watched a replay coaching in Overwatch from a former professional coach and he said: If I coach a Grand Master player I will be hard on him and nitpick every single mistake that he's doing. If I coach a Silver or Gold, if I did the same thing, the sheer amount of mistakes I would have to point out would overwhelm the player. So you have to restrict yourself and point out the biggest mistakes that prevent someone to climb ranks. This is perfectly applicable here.

      you can tell by the way that they play. play 1v1s, by the time you hit diamond 1 in 1v1s you'll be able to tell when an opponent is starved or low or full.

      If he is flipping a lot or hesitating (or not going up for any aerials) and moving quite slowly it is likely that he is low on boost

    • @ahha2523
      @ahha2523 6 років тому +1

      I’m diamond 3 in 1s and I still have a hard time with it sometimes (although I’m pretty awful at 1s still ngl). The simple way to keep track of someone’s boost is to notice when they either
      1. Pick up a boost pod (full boost)
      2. Do something that takes a ton of boost (aerial, hold boost down on the ground, etc).
      Once you start keeping tabs on those two things you can kind of start feeling out when players have enough boost to make specific plays.
      Sometimes you can also tell purely based off of how a player is positioning and driving that they are out of boost too..

    • @ShadoryKaine
      @ShadoryKaine 6 років тому

      keep an eye on your opponents, like squishy said; I play 1's alot and watching your opponent is more important than hitting the ball, also you're able to boost starve in 1's
      so if u see someone slow, hangs back and plays safe, they're usually a. low boost or b. faking their boost count (which is rare but I do that in 1's a lot)

    Enjoying the series Squishy, I know you may feel conflicted playing against lower ranks but it's all in teaching and a bit of entertainment along with some funny salty comments.
    I'm in Diamond and I've gone up against some Champs and GCs, but I just take it as a learning experience and still try my best and put more effort into thinking how to score and/or defend against them. IDK, some people just give up right away and don't want to figure out how to "git gud" when playing against a higher ranked player. I could understand their anger if they constantly went up against higher ranked opponents and kept losing, but it's a one-off thing, so yeah don't feel that bad for them Squishy. The lower ranks are always the saltiest, at least in my experience.
    Also, enjoyed your stream yesterday. I don't watch streams often, just catch them when I'm able to.
    Edit: Since there are only 4 games left, do you think you can finish those last 4 in one video? Like a "bonus" game for watching the Road to GC Series thing for us?

      And if you have Overwolf, like myself, or AlphaConsole, you can see their actual MMR even in Casual matches.

    • @illuminatei6071

      Illuminate I I do play more casual than ranked lately, especially since I'm in S.Korea at the moment. The guys out here are SUPER toxic and they play just for Solo plays. I know it's like that back in the US as well, it's just it feels WAAAY worse out here. Not only that, my ping is at 80-90 on a good day, but mostly in the 110-120 range. @Zancb 6 років тому +15

      They will ban someone for smurfing, depending on the context. Here, Squishy started a brand new account and is simply playing his placement matches to get his rank up, as the game is intended to do. However, if he created this account solely to pop-off or clip on noobs, or to boost an account, then yeah, he might get banned.

    • @c9zyra294
      @c9zyra294 6 років тому

      That's funny because no one is reading rules but you should start to, because Psyonix wrote "smurfing was not allowed if you wan't to play and stay in lower ranks than your current rank". So now instead of saying shit because they are "tilted", read the rules ty. And ofc they are titled because they can't do nothing about this game so it's a free lose.

    • @Koma-hw8kz
      @Koma-hw8kz 6 років тому +9

      @@c9zyra294 relax dude. A "free lose" like you said will not derank you or lose any progress you've made before. Play against better player allows to get better and better. You discover how they place each other, how they hit the ball, why they won and so on. The problem here is people usually want to have better ranking without learning and training anything. If you play against way better people than you just a few games, it's a huge opportunity to learn something from them

    Hey man, enjoy the videos you put out really enjoy this Road to G.C. I'm excited to learn some of the better fundamentals. I do have one suggestion and you may already do this. I think it would be really cool if you signed the lower level players profile (under your Squishy account). This way they get something out of being completely destroyed while they're trying to rank up. I remember going through the lower ranks and getting frustrated when a player much better would come in and dominate. I play on Xbox so I don't know how long it takes to sign a profile but just thought it would be a neat gesture.
    Once again, appreciate the content you put out there!

    What is quite funny about this series is I have done the exact same thing, but what you come to notice is that it is kind of annoying and hard to play lower ranks during placements and general wins. Since the opponents and team mates whiff the ball a bunch because they are still improving, you tend to get faked and tend to miss some basic backboard shots, ceiling shots, etc. I think for some reason in our minds when we play ranks like bronze-plat, we assume we should win every game and feel like we have a reputation to hold up to, which we do. Since that feeling is in our minds, we almost play worse at the game against the lower ranks until we are in home territory of champ-gc and then we tend to feel slow for a small while until we get back into the swing of things. I think it is quite fascinating how our minds act that way, even in a game where we know we can do very well, but somehow the feeling of playing with lower players and thinking we need to be on top, just tends to send us down in our actual mechanical ability. I noticed this when I was especially in bronze-gold, then my speed sort of came back once plat, diamond, and champ returned.

    I just want to point out that I think people have the wrong mentality when playing a pro or GC. You should be honored to play someone like Squishy, someone so good, a top 10 player in the world. I mean I'll give up a loss ANY DAY for that chance... I'm C3 atm so I play GCs fairly often but I love it, it's great practice. If you are a plat player playing a GC, how often are you going to get the chance to do so? Just save the replay, watch from his view and learn some stuff, it's worth the loss imo. You are going to lose thousands of games in your RL career, just embrace the ONE loss when you play a Pro, because you won't get the chance to play a pro fairly often, probably never as a lower rank. Even as a C3 I rarely get the chance, but when it does it's amazing, I'll ride the loss with a huge smile on my face :).

      Nicole Ashley Well imo there's a huge different between playing someone and watching someone. It's much easier to recognize someone's speed and play style when playing the person versus watching. When you get to higher rank, like C3-GC, you start to play the same people a lot. At that level its easier to learn people's play styles over time. But it's something you learn through playing them, at least that's how I learn. Also when you play the person you can save the replay, and analyze the game and look at different player perspectives to see what you could of done differently. This is very important, something you will never learn about yourself by watching another person's stream. Lastly, it feels way better to PLAY a pro rather than watch one, even if you are a plat player. This is just my mentality, maybe it's different for everyone else. I enjoy playing a pro whenever I get the chance, it really doesn't come that often. Even though the odds of winning are pretty low, playing the pro can actually much better help you compare what you are doing versus them. It's just way easier this way than watching. Don't get me wrong though, I watch Pro youtubers on a daily and learn a lot from that, both are very good ways to learn. The more you watch pros on YT and the more you play people way better than you, the better you will get. It is always a positive thing to constantly play better people, eventually over time you will adapt to their speed and learn from them, it's very important to actually get hands on playing with people better than you in order to improve.

    No you wont get banned for smurfing unless you're doing to to boost someone for cash. The reason they get mad is because in their eyes they fully believe that they are way better than what they actually are and their skill group, they fully believe that everyone else is lucky and that they are a god. For about a year now i've dedicated time to gather enough information from players to actually conclude that only 1 in 6 fully accept their own skill group. Even in higher rank do ppl play like shit because in their eyes what they do is the right thing while others suck. I cant tell you how many Diamond 3/Champ players ballchace and throw them self in to every challenge there is or just have extremely bad positioning in general because they don't understand the play as it develops, the inability to read teammates and opponents or understand the basic for how the ball actually moves.

    • @lipman19
      @lipman19 6 років тому +8

      It's because they watch pros play on youtube and think that they are better than they actually are. It makes them frustrated because they think" well if he can do it and make it looks so easy then it must be easy." People at lower ranks want to be good and want to be the best without putting any significant effort into it. Rocket league is a game that takes a substantial amount of time, practice and effort to be good at.

    • @lipman19
      @lipman19 6 років тому

      True and also for me I've been diamond 3 for about 600 hours so alot of the toxicity comes from frustration of playing and playing and playing and never improving whatsoever, then seeing some god of RL come and do everything you have worked for so long to do and failed.

    • @smolpeen1761
      @smolpeen1761 6 років тому

      I think the best way for the newer players (lower rank and/or tilted players) is to not get ahead of themselves. Ease into the game, it’s not a race to “be the best RL player as quick as possible” Learn the basics (aerials, passing defense, rotation, ground shots and so on) Keep practicing and even change up your camera and controller settings up once and a while just to get a feel for what’s comfortable for you. We’ve all been there, it’s just that we sometimes figure that “well I’ve playing for awhile why do I keep screwing ‘yada yada’ and I’m feel like I’m still not improving” Keep this in your mind, WE ARE HUMANS WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES. RELAX. I have 2000+ hours played and still find myself in the wrong position or missing the ball, but it’s ok because I’ve learned that if I laugh it off and not get frustrated I won’t get tilted for the rest of the match.

    i was in diamond, was good at freestyling , could do 2 flip resets max ,score 0 sec goals all the time, stopped playing for half a year, got back to playing and the golds are like the diamond players from when i played and tryin to get alot better, but this just shows how the evolution of rocket league works.

      Pretty sure it's his subscriber sound on Twitch or something. I've heard the exact same sound before in his vids.

    I'm really glad that Squishy is not a dick about how good he his. He doesn't gloat or put other people down. Very classy.
    I just played against two smurfs in plat, and they were for sure champ-level. Which is cool, and I respect the mechanical skill. But the whole game they were calling us trash and telling us to uninstall. It's an ego trip for them, not just a pass-through on their way to a higher rank.
